It’s one thing for the government to subsidize energy research, or, for that matter, any pure research. Libertarian purists might object to that, but sometimes these public-private research partnerships can accelerate innovation and help keep American manufacturers competitive. A key measure of inflation remained unchanged in July from its June level, spurring fears that price increases will continue to hit Americans in the wallet. The White House on Wednesday called on OPEC and its allies to boost oil production as gas prices continue to climb, threatening the nation’s economic recovery. National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan said in a statement the administration has spoken with OPEC members urging the group to increase production.
