The city of Denver spends at least twice as much on homelessness per person as it does on K-12 public school students – and the spending crushes the veterans affairs budget in the state, a new study released Thursday found, according to a report. For comparison, the city reportedly spends between $41,679 and $104,201 on each person experiencing homelessness in a year while only $19,202 on each K-12 public school student over the same period of time. The amount spent on each homeless person in the area is comparable to the average income of area residents.

A generation or two ago, families took responsibility to support their "outliers", from grandma and grandpa to the youngest child. You could go to almost any household in America and see family units in the real sense of the term. When things went south, the family pitched in. Today, the family unit is in tatters and the state is the new "family"...and they will fix everything. Hey, kids needed to be taught values...you get CRT and sex tips. Homeless? Unemployed? Runaway? Impoverished single mother with a gaggle of children and no daddies? Whatever, there is an agency and an army of social workers gonna help take care of your "unfortunate" circumstances. Social work...we have more today than ever. See the improvement?

You always get more of what you pay for. My community spends exactly zero on the homeless. They dont stay long. Once they have tapped out the caring, generous people and churches and all the freebies are gone, so are they.

"When homelessness occurs, we should do everything in our power — as a society, not just as a government — to make it brief and one-time." If you are serious about helping the homeless: 1. Arrest the ones on drugs (they are using illegal drugs, right?) and get them OFF of drugs. Dry them up. Get them off alcohol too, if they are using/abusing, put them in some sort of facility where they can’t leave and treat them! (We had a schizophrenic in our old neighborhood who refused to take his meds and used heroin instead. It wasn’t helping. He had family in the neighborhood but refused all of their help.) Then release them to get additional help (see #3.) (I realize this will never happen because they would be hospitalized against their will.) 3. Connect the remaining homeless (my guess - around 10-15 %?) with services that will help them get back on their feet. Add in the people who have been weaned off of drugs and/or are mentally stabilized and functioning. 4. For those that relapse, stop taking their meds or refuse any help (there are hardcore homeless that simply won’t be assisted), make it super uncomfortable to BE homeless. Don’t enable them. There will be a tiny percentage that we will never be able to help. Sound tough? This is what a fellow who used to be homeless for 10 years advocates. We are not helping them by being lenient, sadly. Make it so it is in their best interest to become more responsible and productive and you will get a positive response. Anything else is just wasting money.

I recently saw a story about the Denver homeless encampments being loaded with bicycles. No cheapo brands from WalMart for Denver's finest. At the same time bicycle thefts are soaring.

Denver used to be a nice town - until all the Communists from California arrived. It’s been abandoned to drug addicts, psychos and felons. I don’t EVER do to Denver if I can help it, and when I do, I always carry a gun.

Democrats who advanced a bill in June to remove statues of white supremacists from the U.S. Capitol ignored a central fact about those figures: All of them had been icons of their party, from Andrew Jackson’s adamantly pro-slavery vice president, John C. Calhoun, to North Carolina Gov. Charles B. Aycock, an architect of the white-supremacist campaign of 1898 that ushered in the era of Jim Crow. At a time when governments, sports teams, schools and other bastions of American society are rushing to expunge legacies of slavery or racism, this was another instance of the Democratic Party’s failure to acknowledge that it did more than any other institution

As the fight over election reform heats up in Congress, the White House is ramping up the rhetoric, declaring that President Biden and Vice President Harris are “incensed by the anti-voter laws that are trampling on our constitutional principles.” It is a mantra repeated on an array of liberal news sites, but the coverage tends to be selective in what constitutional principles are being abridged. "Our constitutional principles" include state power over elections. While the president decries an “unprecedented attack on democracy,” the federalization of elections being pursued by Democrats actually would contravene what the Framers considered a core protection of democracy.

Nancy Pelosi used to point her angry finger at Donald Trump, but she leaves him in the dust when it comes to busting norms, dividing Congress and causing mayhem. If anyone is to blame for the hyper-partisanship in Washington these days, it’s the spiteful House speaker. She behaves more like a Mafia don waging a gang war than a dignified, fair and honest presiding officer, which is what the speaker’s role requires. Pelosi abuses her power in ways that once were unthinkable. Her speakership has been the antithesis of Lincoln’s entreaty to "the better angels of our nature."

Washington—The Senate moved closer to passing a $1 trillion infrastructure package Saturday after lawmakers from both parties came together and voted to clear a key procedural hurdle, but the action soon stalled out as opponents tried to slow the rush to approve one of President Joe Biden’s top priorities. The measure would provide a massive injection of federal money for a range of public works programs, from roads and bridges to broadband internet access, drinking water and more. In a rare stroke of bipartisanship, Republicans joined the Democrats to overcome the 60-vote threshold needed to advance the measure toward final votes. The vote was 67-27, a robust tally. This is not just scientific madness, it appears to be very intentional and purposeful. The Moderna and Pfizer vaccine tests were conducted, as customary, with a control group; a group within the trial who were given a placebo and not the test vaccine. However, during the trial -and after the untested vaccines were given emergency use authorization- the vaccine companies conducting the trial decided to break protocol and notify the control group they were not vaccinated. Almost all the control group were then given the vaccine. Purposefully dissolving the placebo group violates the scientific purpose to test whether the vaccine has any efficacy; any actual benefit and/or safety issues.

Will the Biden administration use federal funds as a club to convince employers to force employees to get vaccinated? The White House is not denying that the plan is under discussion, but they say no final decision has been reached. Forcing companies to do the government’s dirty work on a vaccine mandate is underhanded, but it’s Biden’s only choice if he thinks everyone needs to get vaccinated. A vaccine mandate has no chance of being successful. There’s a question of who will be targeted by the government. Currently, the discussions are about targeting large institutions like senior care centers and universities, but no industry is safe.
