Needham, Massachusetts, native and two-time Olympian Aly Raisman said she’s concerned for Simone Biles’ mental health after the gymnast was pulled from the U.S. team gymnastics finals in Tokyo due to a medical issue. “I’m just thinking about the mental impact this has to have on Simone. It’s just so much pressure,” Raisman told TODAY. “It’s just devastating. I feel horrible.” Biles could be seen walking off the floor with her bag and a trainer after her first rotation on vault, NBCreported. “We’ve just been told that, with regards to Simone withdrawing, it is not injury-related. It is a mental

This can happen with waitresses and factory workers, too. Oh, and cowboys and girls....

Simone Biles has been off for a while. She didn't do well during qualifying competition to even make the Olympic team. It's a shame she didn't stand down before the games and let a younger athlete participate.
Not intended to show her any disrespect. She is an extremely gift athlete but I can only imagine how much damage is done to their young bodies in this sport after so many years.

She has been overhyped. Add to that the heat and humidity in Tokyo and the weirdness of these Olympics - they should have been postponed until a future year. Or maybe it’s time to give it up? We watched everyone from a 13 year old girl to a 34 year old woman from New York competing in “street skateboarding”. Few were able to make even one run without crashing to the ground. “Street skateboarding” is an Olympic sport?

I think you're right #4.
With all the commercial advertising and media adulation
for something yet to happen is like an overvalued stock.

Simone seems like a nice young lady and I believe she has avoided and stance in the current political climate. I wish her the best. Her medals from the previous Olympics were outstanding.
These Olympics have been a mess

Such a shame. She's a fantastic athlete, and they all work so hard. Hopefully another USA gymanast steps up.

Too bad. She had given an interview, and she sounded like she was fighting physical pains, and mental stress. Didn't realize it at the time, but you could see this coming. This report says she withdrew due to a mental health issue. Another says just a medical issue. Probably a combination of both. its clear these athletes need to be prepared mentally as well as physically to deal with the Olympics.

Karmalympics for Social Justice Warriors and Celebrities'.
BS and glitter finally confronted reality, and reality won.
She'll have to comfort herself with her millions in endorsement money. America, you've got four years to make the same mistakes.
Important lesson for your high performing kids. Too many of the talented ones live a surreal life untouched by failure. And when it comes, it comes at a very high level.
Engineer some failure into your superstar kid's life. Teach them how to deal with failure before their first Olympics or their first heart transplant or first trip to Mars. They'll be better for it.

I cannot imagine the pressure on her. I'm sorry it got her down. She's already the greatest gymnast of all time so there's nothing to prove. But I hate to see her go out with a cloud over her head. I know she's been perfecting some never before done moves. I hope she can get herself put back together for the individual events. She's a joy to watch.

Updated accounts confirm that she has mental health issues and will take a personal day tomorrow before she decides if she will compete on Thursday. WHAT?!? I cannot think of anything more selfish to do to the rest of the team! Someone who wants to compete could take her place and prepare. NOT a fan.

The bottom line is that Simone is 24. Most of the girls competing at the highest level of gymnastics are teenagers. Even the best of the best female gymnasts normally retire by the time they are 21. That level of training to be an elite gymnast takes a huge toll on the body and mind.
I believe that Simone Biles is one of the best female gymnasts in history. She had the perfect body and great genetics to be a "gymnastics machine". But even as great as that combination was, there is a reason that there are very few women her age still competing. When they postponed the Olympics for a year, she should have gracefully announced her retirement and joined Nastia Liukin in the announcers both for this Olympics.

The greatest athletes have mental as well as physical strength. Maybe Simone should have stopped while she still had all of the mental strength she had in Rio. The year-long delay didn't help. She is still the best female gymnast based on her past accomplishments but it remains to be seen if her current accomplishments measure up.

Sad news, she is a great gymnast. But what little I have seen of the Olympics, one would think she was the only woman competing on Team USA.

Too much pressure? This is like her third Olympics. She's the elder member of the team at age 24. She even mentioned this in an interview about the other members calling her mom. Biles was asked by one member how long ago she started in gymnastics, and when Biles told her, she said, "I wasn't even born yet". Or maybe it was making all those commercials leading up to the Olympics that messed with her brain.

I don't want to hear this GOAT crap about her anymore. The GOAT would not let her team down because things didn't go her way. Nadia Comanici is the GOAT. Mary Lou Retton is right up there. Kerri Strug is a role model for working through adversity and helping her team win the gold.

There's also something calle mental toughness. Every great athlete has it. They thrive on competition. This is not her first rodeo. Feel bad for her and lets hope she can overcome it.

Perhaps she should take to Greg Louganis, who right before making his high pressure platform dives would simply say to himself, "At least my mother will love me."

In recent months I have noticed her, shall we say 'optics', and wondered how she could possibly be finding time for the most rigorous training. Maybe she wasn't.

Let's she what happens when it comes to the individual all around on Thursday and later on individual events. If her mental health recovers for them?
