TOKYO — The finish line of the men’s triathlon Monday morning looked something like a battlefield scene, bodies sprawled out on ground, trainers coming to the aid of overheated athletes, even a few being helped off with their arms draped over shoulders.
This despite the Olympics moving the start time to 6:30 a.m. in an effort to beat the heat that, as these Tokyo Games have proven, remains undefeated. Temps still reached 85 degrees with a relative humidity of 67.1 percent at start time.

they do owe everyone an apology for this much: They lied like hell about it.

It’s global warming everybody!!! Run for your lives— that is, don’t run.
Perhaps they could ask john effen carrion to refrain from travel to cool the world down for the Olympics. (Funny that auto correct is not familiar with the word “Olympics”).

If the IOC is not aware of avg temperatures during the period of the games in cities applying to host the games I would be shocked. If athletes are relying on Japan's application to host the games for weather conditions in July, I would be equally shocked. Writer needs a better angle than Japan Lied About Their Weather.

It shouldn't be a surprise that Tokyo is hot and steamy in July. The article even mentions that Tokyo's previous Olympiad was moved to the cooler fall months. The upcoming winter Olympics will be held in semi-arid Beijing - another blunder.

Did Atlanta lie about its summer temperatures? Aren't average temperatures freely available?

These games have been a mess since day 1 - they are pretty unwatchable too. the bike race was exciting but so far that about it. Other than the bike race I've watch a few minutes here and there they've been boringly mind numbing.

Why didn’t these alpha-beta-ceta class athletes do their own research? I always check my weather app before I go anywhere. Babies indeed.

It's summer?? And haven't the summer Olympics been held all over the globe in some very hot humid places like Atlanta? The American South IS nothing but hot and humid in the summer.
Did they not do their own research? I'd assume there is a definite chance that SUMMER time will be hot and humid literally just about anywhere in between the Arctic and Antarctic latitudes.
This is like complaining that the winter Olympics are really cold and snowy... well duh!

That's right. Scrunch your eyes, cover your ears, hold your breath, turn red, and scream WAH WAH WAHHHH because nobody notified these Olympic wusses and divas that it's hot and humid in Tokyo in the summer.
Oh! Suddenly they're aware of why it's harmful and dangerous to lie by omission? Perhaps they'll now understand our gripe with the media and politics. Nah. Wishful thinking.

I'm surprised somebody anywhere in the world didn't check out their extended forecast. I think anyone could have done it, even from your home.

When Atlanta was awarded the 1996 Summer Olympic games, the IOC accepted the 'average temperature' that the Atlanta Olympic Committee gave them and construed it as the 'average daytime' temps. Nothing could have been further from the truth but it was the IOC that made the blunder back then. Atlanta's summer temperatures during the '96 games was in the low to mid 90's. It was as hot as hell. I did some photography of a few venues for a client and had to walk about 2 miles from one spot to another (traffic was horrible too). I was 39 at the time and thought I was going to die.
Apparently the IOC did not learn their lesson from 25 years ago.

85 degrees is considered cool in Texas. If you think that is hot, I suggest somewhere else. As for the Olympics, I have enjoyed not watching. I could add that I never watch NBC, whose reputation is rotten.

I suggest Miami or Houston for the next summer Olympics , that should separate the men from the boys or whatever gender they are.

It's summer time. Summer time has a tendency to get warm. The triathlon isn't meant to be run when it's in the mid eighties.

The weather got ignored because someone was paid to ignore it. Its always the money. It is an integral part of sports.

Maybe they should balance this reporting with a weather report in Afghanistan or Iraq?
