Stonewalling investigations into the origins of COVID-19 in Wuhan? A hundred new hardened intercontinental nuclear missiles silos? (Snip) Recently China has sought to ramp up its now accustomed bullying and intimidation of the Western world, still reeling from a Chinese-born coronavirus. Yet its new global badgering is as much predicated on its potential as it is on its actual power, at least in classical terms of a global hegemon. (Snip) the real stuff of an ascendant civilization remains constitutional stability, fuel, food, economic strength, defense, strategic security, and education. In all those areas, is China really on course to overtake us?

Comments:

China has plans to be #1 in the world by 2049. (See Pillsbury’s The Hundred-Year Marathon). Hanson questions whether they have the real stuff to make it work out.

China is, as the title indicates to those who know the history, running down the identical path that the Japanese ran down about a century later. This has been pretty clear for some time, and has been commented upon by several LDotters before this. FTA:"Indeed, it is uncanny how closely both countries resemble the relative global status of, and relationships between, Imperial Japan and America circa 1938-40." but his final comment is that, like Japan, China is both dangerous and vulnerable. Personally, I carefully seek alternatives to "Made in China" products, do my best to avoid Chinese made, at whatever cost. Made in USA is preferred greatly, but any other country but China is OK, if we can't find US made goods. I needed a plumbing valve the other day....the US made was twice as much as the Chinese item. I have the US item, and happy to pay the difference.

I agree that China doesn't have the industrial or intellectual capacity to surpass the US. But do they have to? Even small, two-bit countries like Vietnam, Iraq, Afghanistan, North Korea have cost us many US lives and untold billions of dollars. Like a virus, you don't have to be the biggest and baddest to have an enormous negative impact on others.

China has declared war on us. Not the shooting kind, but war nevertheless. Cyberwar, technology theft, infiltration. They and their Democrat co-conspirators are the enemy within. We have Chinese ranches by our AF base in San Antonio. We had to shut down the Chinese consulate in downtown Houston. The Chinese are working at Las Alamos. The Chinese are engaged in every type of research, and funded by us. Our politicians are marrying Chinese. Who else would have the ugly liars? The Chinese are in Feinstein's office. Swalwell is sleeping with the Chinese. McConnell is married to the Chinese. The Georgia RIno's are financed by the Chinese. Our infrastructure has back doors for the Chinese to shut everything down, or listen to everything we say. The Chinese have our DNA, our personal ID's, and personnel files. And what do we have on the Chinese. Nothing. We have nobody that can penetrate a language that includes hundreds of thousands of characters. Forget about all that. The Chinese are not your friend.

Chinese plans don't include a shooting war. Why would they? It would destroy markets for their goods, ruin the benefits of their "New Silk Road" investments. The biggest factor in Chinese behavior is the idea of "face". That is roughly translated as prestige; honor, respect, dignity, status, reputation, social acceptance, or good name. Western powers, then Japan, carved up the country, which had little face in the world as a failed empire on its knees. With the departure of Mao, Chinese Communism became mercantilism with a strict political regimen. In China the basic rule is to prosper however you can. Never criticize government. As for Taiwan, so long as the island nation maintains a low profile, the mainlanders have no need to provoke trouble. Like NoKor, its imperialistic presence has value as a Western vassal. What face in that? Who here is ready to fight over Taiwan? Any volunteers? That is how this differs from Japan in the 30s and 40s. As Deng said, "It doesn't matter if a cat is black or white so long as it catches mice." That Communist cat doesn't need to fight a war with anyone. It can simply buy the outcome...adding face.

President Joe Biden continues promoting coronavirus vaccine mandates for American citizens, but the White House still struggles to explain why that standard is not applied to migrants crossing the Southern border. White House press secretary Jen Psaki ignored a question Thursday asking if the administration wants to apply the same vaccine standards proposed for foreign visitors to migrants released into the United States. Psaki said that “interagency working groups” are developing a plan for international travel but did not address migrants coming across the Southern border.

An Interior Department spokesperson has confirmed that 35 employees have, as of Friday, died from COVID-19, the disease caused by the CCP virus. After Interior Department Secretary Deb Haaland said in a video address taped earlier in the week that 34 staffers at the agency had died from COVID-19, the department’s communications director, Melissa Schwartz, wrote in a tweet Friday that one more person had died, bringing the tally to 35. Schwartz, in her statement, also updated the number of agency employees who have, to date, contracted the CCP (Chinese Communist Party) virus, bringing that number up to over 4,000

The rate at which coronavirus-positive border crossers are arriving in the United States has “increased significantly,” according to President Joe Biden’s Department of Homeland Security (DHS). David Shahoulian, DHS’s assistant secretary for border and immigration policy, admitted in a court brief filed this week that the agency has seen “significantly increased rates” of coronavirus-positive border crossers arriving at the U.S.-Mexico border, spurring “extremely worrisome” conditions at border facilities. Shahoulian writes in the brief: (snip) At the same time, DHS is also experiencing significantly increased rates of noncitizens testing positive for COVID19.

I hate being right sometimes, and this is one of those times. As I feared, Brett Kavanaugh’s cowardice in not vacating the stay on the original eviction moratorium is coming back to haunt property owners across the country. In my previous pieces on this topic, I noted that Kavanaugh had the chance to join the conservatives, vacate the stay on the original moratorium, and do so in a way that clearly prevents any future issuance given how blatantly unconstitutional this theft of property is. Instead, perhaps in some misguided attempt to get the left to love him, the Trump-appointed justice joined the liberals, allowing the moratorium to continue and expire.

This is not just scientific madness, it appears to be very intentional and purposeful. The Moderna and Pfizer vaccine tests were conducted, as customary, with a control group; a group within the trial who were given a placebo and not the test vaccine. However, during the trial -and after the untested vaccines were given emergency use authorization- the vaccine companies conducting the trial decided to break protocol and notify the control group they were not vaccinated. Almost all the control group were then given the vaccine. Purposefully dissolving the placebo group violates the scientific purpose to test whether the vaccine has any efficacy; any actual benefit and/or safety issues.

They are just making up narratives now, and the media are not calling them out on it…. The Director of the CDC made an important admission during an interview today on CNN. CDC Director Rochelle Walensky stated the vaccine does not prevent COVID-19 infection, nor does it stop the vaccinated person from transmitting the infection or the delta variant. According to Director Walensky, the only benefit from the vaccine now is presumably that it reduces the severity of symptoms. If a vaccinated and non-vaccinated person have the same capacity to carry, shed and transmit the virus – with or without symptoms – then what difference does a vaccination passport

Washington—The Senate moved closer to passing a $1 trillion infrastructure package Saturday after lawmakers from both parties came together and voted to clear a key procedural hurdle, but the action soon stalled out as opponents tried to slow the rush to approve one of President Joe Biden’s top priorities. The measure would provide a massive injection of federal money for a range of public works programs, from roads and bridges to broadband internet access, drinking water and more. In a rare stroke of bipartisanship, Republicans joined the Democrats to overcome the 60-vote threshold needed to advance the measure toward final votes. The vote was 67-27, a robust tally. Dr. Rochelle Walensky has been making the media rounds. At most, they simply reduce the severity of the symptoms people experience if they do catch COVID. Will the Biden administration use federal funds as a club to convince employers to force employees to get vaccinated? The White House is not denying that the plan is under discussion, but they say no final decision has been reached. Forcing companies to do the government’s dirty work on a vaccine mandate is underhanded, but it’s Biden’s only choice if he thinks everyone needs to get vaccinated. A vaccine mandate has no chance of being successful. There’s a question of who will be targeted by the government. Currently, the discussions are about targeting large institutions like senior care centers and universities, but no industry is safe.
