The establishment right-wing commentariat spent the week in internecine bickering on Twitter about whether it was wise for Turning Point USA to demand a 48-year-old female porn “star” leave a political action conference aimed at late adolescents and college students. Apparently, there is no more pressing matter for their intellectual energies: as if a single winnable vote for a candidate on the Right would be lost because a prostitute was treated poorly at an event almost no one had even heard was happening. “We need a ‘big tent’ conservatism,” the usual suspects insisted—we’d be fools to alienate porn enthusiasts, who as a group, obviously are “Natural Conservatives.”™

FTA: "...whatever the conservative movement was once trying to conserve, has long been lost."
The real defeat of traditional "conservatism" came shortly after 9/11, when security replaced liberty as the driver of our laws and law enforcement. "Conservatives" failed their principles in the panic, lauding Dubya and Congress for creating secret FISA courts and Homeland Security. Warnings were disregarded...much was only to be temporary and with tight oversight to prevent what we have today...a soft UNIPARTY dictatorship.
Conservatives refuse to understand the the Constitution is observed in the breach, that our "inalienable rights" are indeed "civil rights" at the whim of government edict. Elections are universally questioned, even becoming openly illegitimate. But if your side wins, well...that's okay then.
Conservatives have many gods with feet of clay. Once Dubya was the GOAT; now he's lower than whale dung. Even the military, those great defenders of American life, are now seen differently. It cannot win the wars, so it teaches adherence to the social doctrine d'jour...the better understand the "enemy", of course. Conservatives have long abandoned media, the arts, and even education...the list of retreats is long.

I believe he is correct. We are now subjects in a pre-1776 totalitarian age. Laws are no longer enacted through a legislative process but are imposed through bureaucratic, judicial and executive fiat. Favored peoples are above the law while for peasant, laws are enforced arbitrarily and often vindictively. Freedom of speech, freedom of assembly and freedom of religion have been destroyed. The president was installed through massive fraud. The entire world knows this but we people are too afraid to speak.

A clear majority of Americans, including Democrats, self identify as "Conservative" rather than "Liberal", Insisting that THEY all adopt some "New Term" is as anti conservative as it can possibly get. To conserve is to "preserve"...rhetoric focusing upon the "preservation" of the foundational elements of the American Way is a winning argument. Conservatives are by definition Conservationists, showing that defeats the collectivist Greens. Conservatives are by definition individual rights supporters, showing the failure of collectivists to serve individuals is the pathway to bring individuals aboard. Just need to find the particular topic where collectivism fails the particular individual you are speaking to. Get them to nod their head once and build on that...

If she was truly conservative, she'd already understand what her presence at an event aimed at adolescents meant. This was a publicity stunt; its eventual purpose really doesn't matter.

I agree with Adam Ellwanger and think we should take back the word Liberal. It's not really in use by Democrats/Progressives/Socialists. It's used in the media, and that would confuse the little dimwits.

Ok that's a little weird. The word conservative used to mean conserving the status quo. In that regard I have no intention of conserving our current state which has drifted far away from the constitution. I kind of liked the libertarian label but those using it have spoiled that. Constitutionalist suits me.
At the root is the issue of rights. Are they unalienable protected by government but not bestowed by government or are rights that which you can get government to force away from others.

Turning Point USA is doing a good job with our young people. Glad we have them.

The Author correctly points out there is nothing left to conserve. The battles -- and the war -- have been lost. The Author also asserts we recognize that change is on permanent glide path. There is now a maintenance infrastructure to keep it that way.
I agree entirely. The Country is lost. That's not to say it couldn't be reclaimed, but any discussion of that gets you arrested under the current (and likely permeant) abrogation of Free Speech in America.

Those who controls the language and definitions of words control the narrative. Although I have always considered myself a classical liberal--that is to say, a modern conservative--I prefer the British terms "wet" (left) and "dry" (right).
