SAN FRANCISCO — A flurry of shoplifters in masks and hooded jackets sprinted from a downtown Neiman Marcus last week and into getaway cars with armfuls of designer handbags — a scene captured on video and raising fears that rings of thieves were hitting retail businesses. The incident, which remains under investigation, was only the latest to give an impression of lawlessness running rampant in San Francisco's stores, where people have been caught on recordings openly swiping products seemingly without repercussion. But city leaders are pushing back at that image after the release Monday of a midyear public safety report. Police data

To all of Pelosi's constituients, what is she doing to help you? She cares more about DC than SF, and when she does return home, she locks herself in behind gated walls.

When the stores go out of business, shoplifting and the minimum wage is reduced to zero.

Of course robberies are down! With so many stores closed, there is less opportunity to steal.

High end stores should attach cable wire to desirable items and if the wire is cut, the doors slam shut.

San Francisco needs another 9.0 earthquake. With any of the buildings built on soft sandy soil which will liquify as soon as the shaking starts, the city will quickly slide into the bay. The tidal waves will take of what's left standing.

The stores and leftists let the shoplifters in the stores---but not conservatives, who pay for what they get.

"A similar study in the Journal of Criminal Justice published this month found that Proposition 47 and another related reform law were successful in helping to reduce the state prison population..."
Well, that's the important thing, isn't it. I'll bet we could get the incarceration rate down to zero if only we would stop arresting and prosecuting criminals altogether. I'm sure Chesa Boudin and other like-minded DAs around the state would be willing to do their utmost to make it so.

Nice idea, #5....but this assumes that the police will even respond once your 'doors are slammed shut'. And if they do respond, the shoplifter will be turned loose without bail and probably without charges in an hour or two. The police have figured out that they are wasting their time if judges and prosecutors won't do their jobs.

Sure! it wasn't theft. It was looting! We don't have rampant theft. Nothing to see here! Move on!
Will Nieman Marcus be closing its store? Watch San Francisco turn into a wasteland. How unfair, NOT.

This is, of course, "cost shifting".
The state has shifted the cost feeding and clothing the feral monsters they create
onto insurance companies.
Insurance companies won't endure this cost long.
No insurance - no store.
No store - food desert!
Food desert! - Racism!
Because - no accountability.

What's the minimum limit for theft in SF? $750 per person?

At the end of the day the proof will be no stores or commerce in SF. Businesses cannot be forced to lose money. Also I imagine finding employees will become harder as the exodus of middle and lower class folks accelerate. Politicians cannot seem to seeing it coming or stick there heads in the sand. Detroit on the Bay will not be a pretty thing. On the bright side real estate will become affordable.

The image painted by news reports from the Right are slightly exaggerated; but much closer to the reality than the Mayor's denials are. Several local Walgreens have closed for good (the store on our block is open, but has much of the merchandise behind locked plexiglass now), all the city's Target stores shifted their closing time to 6:30 pm (while most Target stores outside the city stay open 'til 10 or 11). The only time I don't go outside the city for shopping is when I don't have an hour to drive there, shop, and get back.
And this is better than the other part of town where I lived from 2018 to 2020.

CA is a great state to live in.
Just walk in & take $950 worth of stuff & walk out.
Do that 7 days a week & life is good😎

If you define theft as stealing something worth no less than $950, as is being done, then maybe it is less rampant.

When all of this open theft madness started it was all because "people are hungry." I wonder what a designer purse tastes like?

Those videos are being taken out of context! It is not theft if it is below X dollars! You're just saying that about the person because you're a racist! But they needed all of those clothes, they have a big family. Excuses, Excuses, Excuses. When will politicians just call criminals what they are: Criminals, a blight on society. Human waste who is allowed to fester on the streets. Why politicians allow this to continue is beyond belief. They are too afraid of being called racist if they call out the rampant theft and destruction. They can just claim their comments were taken out of context.

Pushing back at the image. Not pushing back at the criminals.
It looked like every one of them was black. Shocking!

The dingbat mayor citing a tiny percentage drop in theft is because people are afraid to report it, and also know reporting crimes a waste of time. The facts that stores are closing down or drastically limiting hours is proof of the crime explosion. And of course all the videos of rampant theft are hard to explain away.
