Former President George W. Bush on Wednesday offered fresh criticism of the withdrawal of American and NATO troops from Afghanistan, as the U.S.-backed government in Kabul appears increasingly imperiled and Taliban fighters continue to make rapid gains across the country. Asked whether the drawdown was a mistake, Bush told German broadcaster Deutsche Welle in an interview: “I think it is, yeah. Because I think the consequences are going to be unbelievably bad and sad.” Bush, whose administration launched the U.S. military invasion of Afghanistan in October 2001, specifically cited the plight of Afghan women and girls whom he said could

There's nothing wrong with Afghanistan that a 12 warhead nuclear attack wouldn't greatly improve.

Hey 43 - for what $2 Trillion - what have we gotten done in Afghanistan? What a generation of our 18yos have gotten out of this deal. Gotta be a beech when history shows you were snookered by Military/Industrial complex for your whole 8 years of same old same old. Complain to your buddy Preezy about how he's messing up his puppet Biden's grifted term to get things fixed for Globalists.

It was Bush's stupid "nation building" idea that kept us there. We should have mopped up the terrorists and left.

What we need is another 20 year 5 trillion dollar plan for nation building. Right, George?
You cannot help people that will not help themselves. This is what Islam does to people. It makes them submit, and that is precisely what the Afghan population has done.

Afghanistan was given 20 years of American blood, sweat and tears to give them a taste of freedom. That they are so willing to give it up without a fight shows that it was a waste of time, blood and money.
We should have gotten in and out. How many lives were lost for nothing, destroyed by massive injuries and PTSD?
I feel sorry for Americans tragically impacted by their service to this country and the translators and their families who helped us but no one else. W should crawl in a hole and die in shame for what he did to so many young men and their families!

Bush, just zip it! You started a war without any plans for withdrawal. The US needed 4 years to take Hitler down, and he had a better army than these rag hats any day. Bring our troops home and let some other countries like the Europeans clean up that God forsaken place!

The purpose of the Afghan war was essentially to punish them for harboring the terrorists (al Qaeda) that attacked us on 9/11. It morphed into trying to install a democratic government and a peacekeeping mission. It was a classic case of mission creep and quagmire. If the Taliban take control again and start harboring terrorists who are planning to attack up, the withdrawal will be a failure. But if it's just the Taliban, with all of their awfulness, returning, it's no different than it was for many years before 9/11. We weren't planning to attack them for their oppression of women and girls. I wish we could have eradicated the Taliban, but ultimately, it's up to the people of Afghanistan to fight that battle.

The United States stayed about 29 years, trillions of dollars with injured or killed soldiers for naught. The place is useless and good intentions don't mean squat to the mountain goat heathens and Taliban owns the place. The Taliban outlasted the Russians and now the Americans while still in place with new weapons left behind to fight the next hoard of intruders.
Shut Bush your advice is useless.

This man is a stain on the state of Texas. I join many other Texas conservatives who will do everything we can to prevent the political plans of any BUSH attempting to represent us again. Dubya will be out there speaking up now as Bush, Inc. works to stop MAGA.

Dubya's Big Adventure in Afghanistan cost us $2.26 trillion (an amount that approaches 10% of the outstanding federal debt), and led to the deaths of 2,420 US service members killed and 19,950 wounded. Dubya and Laura, the so-called conservative one, now loudly support abortion rights, but also claim here to support the rights of women and girls not to be killed, as long as there's money to be made on "peacekeeping" missions.

If you have extra dollars, you could donate them to TunnelstoTowers.org (t2t.org) to help provide houses for our service people who lost their limbs for Mr. Bush. I'm still not sure what fighting terrorists in Iraq and Afghanistan had to do with saving America. Every one lost except the companies who sold to the military industrial complex.

President Bush never has a clear response to any problem. He is just like Ben Sasse. He understands everything that is wrong with the world but canoot for the life of him make anything better.
I am so grateful for President Trump's leadership in calling out Bush's foolishness in the middle east and Iraq. I must admit that it really opened my eyes.

If the Afghan men don’t want their women brutalized by the taliban it’s their job to stop them. If they want their country democratized and modernized, it’s their job to provide it. It’s all on them. I for one wouldn’t lift a finger if that whole country was sliding into the ocean. Never have cared for those people and never will. They’re Muslims for heavens sake and that’s all they’ll ever be.

George, you had SEVEN YEARS to win decisively and come home. You let touchy-feely Rules of Engagement slow our forces to a crawl, and lost sight of the goal. Any withdrawal made without teaching a lesson to the Taliban, al-Qaida, and the world was bound to be a disaster.

After Pearl Harbor we went to war with Japan, won the war and stayed for more than 60 years with no plans to withdraw. If you need an exit plan, don’t enter. Leaving may not be possible for a very long time. If you disagree, read history. If you don’t read, don’t comment.
