A judge on Thursday ruled in favor of a group that filed a lawsuit demanding more police officers be brought into the city, after City Council members and activist groups advocated to replace the police department following the death of George Floyd. Hennepin County District Judge Jamie L. Anderson issued a Writ of Mandamus (pdf) ordering the city to hire more police officers, specifically, that Minneapolis should have at least 730 officers or .0017 of the 2020 census population, whichever is higher, by the end of June 2022. An unprecedented number of officers quit or went on extended medical leave after Floyd’s death and the unrest that followed, which included the burning

From the “You Can’t Make This Stuff Up” locker. I’m sure everyone in Minneapolis will be happy to know that a flock of pea green police officers will be ready to hit the streets in months? Years?

Since when does a judge get to decide about the staffing levels of a police department? Let the city government in Minneapolis continue to destroy their own city until actual adults get elected.

you would have to have an iq under 70 to apply to be a police officer in minneapolis these days. So I guess that's what they'll get. They are also going to have to eliminate all physical fitness and strength testing as well as background checks. Mpls is going make Mogadishu look like heaven, enjoy the suck voters.

Good luck with that. Being an officer in a city known for throwing you under the BLM bus before the sun goes down, prosecuted and thrown in prison? Not worth the risk at 10X what they're offering to pay. Drown in the quicksand of your own making Minneapolis.

Yeah, fat chance that the Minneapolis looney leftists on City Council would go for that. And anyway, anyone who would apply for a job as a police officer in Minneapolis today would automatically fail the psychological tests because they are certifiably crazy.

I wouldn't vouch for the quality of the new recruits. What self-respecting young man or woman would want to join a police force completely unsupported by the powers-that-be? Look at that wimpy mayor, the loony tune city council and that cowardly governor, who sympathize with rioters and looters. Would anyone here want to see their children or grandchildren join the Minneapolis PD?

Apparently the city charter requires a certain number of officers based on the population. Now they are finding out it's not so easy to replace all the officers who retired early, simply quit, or are on extended leave of absence.

Actually the city charter stipulates how many police officers are to be employed. The leftists knew this and tried to have a ballot issue on reducing this number. This was rejected by an independent charter commission so the left must wait to attempt to change the city charter and thus the number of officers. Right now the city is in violation of its own charter. The issue before the judge and his ruling are both correct. What will be interesting is what punishment will be issued when the city fails to have the required number of officers.

Who with any brains would want to hire on as a Police Officer in Minneapolis, as in an instant an incident could occur that would transform you from a police officer to a criminal awaiting a prison sentence for simply doing your job? You can’t hire and train a police officer in a day, maybe a year or more is more like it.

The Truth About Critical Race Theory 8 replies

Moderator Chris Wallace asked President Trump during Tuesday’s debate why he “directed federal agencies to end racial sensitivity training that addresses white privilege or critical race theory.” Mr. Trump answered: “I ended it because it’s racist.” Participants “were asked to do things that were absolutely insane,” he explained. “They were teaching people to hate our country.” “Nobody’s doing that,” Joe Biden replied. He’s wrong. My reporting on critical race theory in the federal government was the impetus for the president’s executive order, so I can say with confidence that these training sessions had nothing to do with developing “racial sensitivity.”

Question for the future: what did we get for all that blood and treasure? Don’t answer now, just put it on your mental to-do list.

Those of Joe Biden’s public behaviors that align with classic dementia symptoms are escalating. In the past few days, he strongly exhibited two symptoms: A type of belligerence that’s a cover-up for confusion and memory loss and a paranoid fear of those in charge of him. I used to spend a lot of time in the company of doctors. What always fascinated me were the tales they told of dealing with patients with early-stage dementia. The most interesting point they made was that elderly people, so as not to lose face or admit their own fears, are superb at deflecting the questions aimed at assessing their cognitive skills and memory.

The issue that provoked negative feedback from her normally supportive allies was not top-of-mind stuff like defunding the police, but rather an inside baseball sort of issue.
