SAN FRANCISCO -- According to the California Retailer's Association three cities in our state are among the top 10 in the country when it comes to organized retail crime--Los Angeles, San Francisco and Sacramento. Already we are seeing the negative impact it is having in San Francisco with stores permanently shutting down or closing early. It has become one of the most pressing issues in our city today. Target has now acknowledged that San Francisco is the only city in America where they have decided to close some stores early because of the escalating retail crime. For more than a month

And if these stores are in black areas, we'll soon hear cries of racism because they are closing stores and people will have to drive miles and miles to get their prescriptions filled. Remember Watts?

If the cities condone theft, what choice do the retailers have?
They are not in business to go out of business.

Can see these stores being closed to the public, people place their orders, pay by credit card, and receive their orders through a slot/opening in an iron door. All windows bricked up.

Poster #3, that will work for a short time until the bad guys start mugging those coming to pick up their orders. I think we'll soon start to see home delivery only. Most stores now have that available.

When you pass ordinances that allow $1000 worth of theft with no consequence, this is the natural result. Nothing the cops can do about it, and the retailers are not going to pay daily reparations to the parasite class.

That is abysmally stupid. Stealing is stealing is WRONG, whether you do it for "organized crime resales" or for yourself. So these buffoons are going to try to differentiate a "good" crime from a "bad" crime. Liberals...

"That's where San Francisco Supervisor Ahsha Safai has stepped in." Is this guy that stupid? All he has to do is look at who the DA is (Chesa Boudin) and the fact that his own city council raised the theft threshold to $950, and he'll have the answer. Hey, it's their problem, not mine. What it does point out though is the quality of candidates running for office in all these cities, and they get elected. Once elected, they don't know what's up and what's down. We are in big trouble!

Same people causing the same problems all over the country. Officials are terrified to even mention their race. Got it.

Serious question - why do these stores employ security guards? Retailers do not allow their employees to stop thieves so what is the point of having a security guard?

Look no further than the Soros backed San Francisco District Attorney, Chesa Boudin. His parents are imprisoned 60's radicals and he was raised by Bill Ayers and Bernadine Dohrn.

Remember both Harris and Pelosi represent San Francisco in the Congress and the ongoing lawlessness in San Francisco is not of any known concern to them. After all that’s where a lot of leftist and socialist voters reside and neither Harris or Pelosi are about to mess with them, as one day they could be shoplifters and thieves and the next day be voting for Harris and Pelosi. In time what starts in California generally moves across the country, so get ready.

#5, Actually it’s much worse than San Francisco passing an ordinance that makes thefts less than $1,000 a misdemeanor. It was the entire state that did so several years ago through a voter initiative. There were many soft-on-crime provisions, such as early release, included.
It was advertised as criminal justice reform. I, along with those with a brain, voted against it but we
were outnumbered by the brain dead. I’m not sure whether San Francisco or any other location could lower the amount for a felony.

Soros funded, SF DA, and son of 60's imprisoned RADICALS, raised by Bill Ayers, and Bernadine Dohrn, what else would you expect? BTW, Ayers and Dohrn were more than Obama's well-known quote, "Just a guy in the neighborhood." These two unrepentant domestic terrorists LAUNCHED Obama's initial fundraising campaign into his existing infamous career! It should not end well. Everything they touch is the reverse Midas curse!

Actually the voters of California are experiencing what they voted for. When they can’t find any Walgreens where to purchase their prescriptions you would think that the California voters would wake up, but apparently no way.

Enjoy the loss of sales and income tax revenue, SF. Not to mention soon to be vacant retail space.

This results in a loss of entry-level jobs, and taxable revenues for the City and State.
#8, i sense a pattern of political leadership in each of those Cities listed.

This will not change unless the major stores announce that they are closing up shop & pulling out unless Law & Order is restored.
No doubt the cities would sue to try & stop this as oppose to L&O but even the 9th circus would laugh that outta court.

#10, I believe they hire security guards in order to deter some theft. The presence of a "uniform" may deter some of the less pathological would-be shoplifters. Or so I have been told by a former security guard.

I guess the writer of the article isn't aware of why Detroit has few supermarkets within its city limits.

I have a simple suggestion...Doors that can be LOCKED between doors, so the thieves can't leave is a good start.
Call the Cops and the Perps will be waiting...with the stolen merchandise.
Make sure the doors have notifications that any unpaid merchandise that goes through the first door is considered stolen...

Back in the '70's I did "Access Control Systems" (the company's trick was to sync 3 B&W cameras (overhead , face and badge)
But it involved a "Man Trap" where a remote security guard could lock both doors.

No need to even arrest these thieves anymore since they will be released and the charges dropped even if they had two thousand bucks worth of stolen goods. The left wants to encourage the poor, oppressed criminals to steal what they want. If I was a cop I would look the other way. No need to get into some confrontation that turns violent and the thief is injured or killed. Then the cop goes to prison. I can't imagine a worse job than to be in law enforcement in one of these violent, 'woke' cities.

I wouldn't fret about Walgreens. They raised the price of everything in other stores fifty cents or more to make up for it. They paid BLM millions, rebuilt stores that had been looted in some cities. I called to remind them how many white old people get scripts filled in their stores and perhaps were discriminated against.
