San Francisco's homelessness department is seeking $20 million in additional funding to extend an encampment program that already funds tents that cost over $60,000 a year. This week, officials from San Francisco's Department of Homelessness and Supportive Housing went before the the Board of Supervisors' Budget and Appropriations Committee and requested $20 million over the next two years to keep six 'Safe Sleeping Village' tent encampments running. The city's six encampment sites provide tents for the homeless as well as three meals a day, around-the-clock security and bathrooms and showers,

I’d be requesting $40 mil. Take care of Inflation for the cost of materials, and get some 2-br tents. Make it homey. Homeless like nice things, too.

"Homeless Department". I remember in the 1990s, we were part of the Welfare-to-Work, but we were from the private sector. I remember spending time in the City and County Offices, where all the City and County workers would stare daggers at us. Every time we put some one to work, it was one less person that needed 'help.' The current Homeless Industrial Government Complex just loves 'helping' people to remain homeless.

"Aren't we wonderful people" is the motto of San Francisco. truthful answer...NO. You expand and create more poverty by your actions and waste the resources of a once beautiful city.

Remember when the city was giving homeless people shopping carts, or not prosecuting shopping cart theft? Same example of only perpetuating the problem, not solving it. Do they also register them to vote and drive them to the polls? Oh wait, they have ballot harvesters now.
I'll never visit SFO again.

Ok..... which politician's family member is running that tent store?
I'll happily sell tents to SF at 30K each.

San Francisco voters have the local government they've voted for. They are OK with what's happened to the city. Too bad. San Fran used to be such a beautiful city. It's going down and nothing will slow it down, much less turn it around, until this creeping seediness spreads into the neighborhoods of the truly wealthy.

$60K is chump change to the Pelosis and their ilk who just want to keep the homeless from camping in their gardens, and to hail with everyone else.

I remember when they were called vagrants and were arrested and the ones who were mentally ill were placed in mental institutions that are now closed by Democrats because everyone “deserves to live in a free society” no matter how dangerous they are. Democrat logic, an oxymoron.

$20 million won't cover the cost of cleaning up the crap on the sidewalks.

Do $60,000 tents burn as quickly as $100 ones?

Providing tents for people to sleep in is compassionate? How about helping them beat their addictions so they can be self-sufficient? Or providing them with mental health treatments to help them get well? That's compassion, not this. Leftism isn't compassionate, it compounds the problems.

I would be cheaper to buy a plot of land and buy each one a tiny home and let them cook and clean up after themselves.

Obviously some kind of corruption. I haven't bought a tent lately but my kids have and they definitely do not cost 60K,

I'll offer to provide tents for only $20K each, as many as they want.
Since I can buy them new for a couple of Benjamins, at worst, and more likely under $100 each, this could be a nice profit, about 10,000 percent .
SCAM.
SCAM.
SCAM.
as usual for Dems.

San Francisco, which is known to be a foreign country to many Californians, does strange things. We used to love to visit there for a fancy weekend at the Clift, equally fancy dinner at l’Etoile, lunch at the Tadich Grill, a jaunt to Sausalito, Saks Fifth Avenue… and then, blessedly, home… Some things are best remembered without any attempt to recreate them.

From the communist cesspool otherwise known as California. Not a surprise.
I live in California, and even the liberal snowflakes in other cities like Los Angeles hate the city of San Francisco.
