A Democratic congressman from California suggested that the Catholic Church ought to lose its tax-exempt status if the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) decides to follow Church law and deny Communion to pro-abortion politicians like President Joe Biden.
In a June 18 tweet, Rep. Jared Huffman (D-CA) said, “If they’re going to politically weaponize religion by ‘rebuking’ Democrats who support women’s reproductive choice, then a ‘rebuke’ of their tax-exempt status may be in order.”
Huffman, who serves on a variety of caucuses — including the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender (LGBT) Equality Caucus and the

If all it takes for the church to start speaking out as it should is to lose it tax exempt status, then so be it. Git’er done so we can move on and take a solid stand for what is right and true. Enough with the silencing over $$$.

It is fine for Democrats who violate and undermine and enact laws that are antithetical to the Church, even as they portray themselves as devout Catholics to garner votes.
Go ahead, and end the Catholic Church's tax exempt status, you Dem Pukes. This Catholic is one of millions who will no longer pay federal taxes.

Dems are a nasty, petty, spiteful, vicious bunch of spoiled brats. The fact that sum total of all their intellect put together still doesn’t get above zero doesn’t help.

They are so detached from God and their own sinful nature it never crosses their mind that by taking communion, the body and blood of our Lord Jesus Christ, while in a state of active unrepentant sinfulness, they are actually doing damage to their own body and soul. This is a teaching as old as the Church itself and it is held by more than the just the Catholic Church.

So now churches should not be allowed to speak on moral issues if they want to maintain their tax-free status. Churches should not discipline their members? The Roman Catholic Church is under NO legal obligation to serve Holy Communion to anyone.
It is my understanding that anyone who commits a grave sin is not supposed to receive the Sacrament of Holy Communion until she/he has repented. Promoting abortion -- the killing of innocent unborn children in the eyes of the Church -- is a grave sin. Continuing to promote abortion as Biden does sounds like unrepentant sin, so the Roman Catholic Church would just be enforcing its own doctrine were it to deny Holy Communion to an abortion promoter.

Individual priests are between a rock and a hard place - knowingly give communion to people who publicly and defiantly oppose the Church's magisterium, or deny them communion, and get thrown under the bus by the Church hierarchy. Without the support of the Church hierarchy, I can see how many just knuckle under and figure they'll let God deal with it in the afterlife.

Outrageous threat, akin to blackmail, and a tiny bit disproportionate. The Article seems to presume that the entire Catholic Church is tax exempted by a single (umbrella) 501(c)(3) exemption, which can easily be cancelled all at once. Many local Catholic Churches have their own (individual) 501(c)(3) exemption. To accomplish a cancellation of the entire Catholic Church would require that all of these exemptions be cancelled on a case-by-case basis.

How many politicians speak from the pulpit at Catholic Churches?
Do any democrats speak in any other churches, particularly in inner-city neighborhoods during campaigns?
Careful what you threaten, Mr. Huffman, as you likely would have unintended consequences and end up affecting the tax exempt status of every other church.

This all goes back to not prosecuting law breaking in our society, i.e. last summer, Portland, NYC, and other major democrat cities, with Antifa violence, BLM violence/murder! The left supported the violent rioters last summer. "Who said it had to be a peaceful protest?" says our Constitutional expert Chris Cuomo! When there is no consequence to violating the law and order, this is what happens......demanding the Catholic Church to change their theology...so evil (abortionists) demonrats can take communion! Now these law breakers in Congress and on the streets are shameless, unrepentant and demanding. Sin is a unheard of word today in this society.

Oh by the way, in 1970, my mom was ex-communicated from the church because of divorce. A divorce she probably did not want. So they have no problem ex-communicating an average church-goer but because it is Joe Biden, Nancy Pelosi, or any other Catholic politician, favor should be given. God tells us we are all equal but somehow it just seems that favoritism is creeping into churches. . .

Upon reading a familiar poster's repeat statement of a family member being "excommunicated" due to divorce, I thought posting this explanation should be helpful: "Divorce and remarriage without an annulment did have the potential for penalties. In 1884, the United States Catholic bishops established a regional law that automatically excommunicated those who divorced and remarried without an annulment." It appears that DIVORCE ALONE does not incur this penalty, but ONLY DIVORCE and REMARRIAGE does!

Start with black churches that preach hate and racism ( chickens cummin' home to roost) and work on candidates' campaigns.
Frankly, whether Joe gets Communion or not, is his own bidness'.

Catholic politicians are not required to actively agitate against abortion, but are obligated not to promote it. Biden has supported it to the point of promotion, and Pelosi has been one of the leading promoters of abortion-on-demand. They have promoted and defended it to the point of being materially complicit with those deaths, which should (by my understanding of Canon Law) qualify for the latae sentenciae clause. (Meaning they have excommunicated themselves by their own actions.)

Last I knew, there was no Constitutional Right to Holy Communion! Communion falls under Catholic Church Law, not US Federal Law. Who can and cannot have communion in a church is not Congress' business. Also, if you remove 501((C)3) Tax Exempt status from type of church, you remove them from all. I doubt that would go over well with the other Christian denominations, Jewish Temples, Muslim mosques, Buddhist Temples, and other religions who will be effected by the Democrats spiteful actions over their obsession with murdering babies.

The Democrats and the Main Stream Media are abusing the word "politicalization' when defining the issue with the reception of the Holy Eucharist by abusive leftist politicians, primarily Catholic Democrats. It is NOT the CATHOLIC BISHOPS WHO ARE POLITICIZING IT. It is the radical leftist politicians who knowingly approach the altar and the priest to receive the sacrament. They are non-compliant and still want to receive it so they can claim they are 'devout Catholics'. It is the politicians who are maliciously utilizing this sacred symbol of our Lord Jesus Christ, to advance their image amongst the voters.

Why? It has nothing to do with his politics. It has everything to do with his Catholicism, such as it is.
A brazen violation of the separation of church and state they're always so keen on, even if there's nothing in the Constitution about it.

Taking communion unworthily, or in an unrepentant state can be physically dangerous. Fine, let SloJo unworthily consume the Eucharist. Now or later, he'll pay the price. Liars will have their place in the lake of fire.
