I have lost numerous horses, cats, dogs, birds and hamsters over the course of my life. It is one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to go through and I send condolences to Jill as Champ was her dog. However, I fear that Xiden will latch onto this to garner sympathy the way he does with Beau’s death. It’s very convenient when Joe is catching flack.

I am, obviously, a huge dog lover. We had a Champ and he also lived to the ripe old age of 13. He was a big lab mix and we knew at the end his days were short. I can see from my chair the place in the dining room where he peacefully passed on. He’d been enjoying a nice summer day in the front yard when a storm started brewing. His old legs couldn’t get him inside and my husband carried that 90 lb dog in and laid him down. I started dinner and he took his last breath shortly thereafter. . I hope this Champ passed as peacefully.

Or was the dog becoming a liability? If your dog or mine bit two people in separate incidents, we would be fined for keeping a dangerous animal, and the dog would be put down.

In American journalism, there are supposed to be some clear, nonnegotiable third-rails. One is zero tolerance for overtly racist language and comportment among our movers and shakers. Reporters, for example, for four years damned Donald Trump for his neutralizing summation that there were both “fine people” and extremists mingled among the hordes of protestors during their occasionally violent encounters in Charlottesville, Virginia. It mattered little to the media that Trump added qualifiers of “many” and “both” sides of the protests: We condemn in the strongest possible terms this egregious display of hatred, bigotry and violence, on many sides . . .

Disney has been accused of pricing out loyal customers by targeting affluent families with $800 hotel rooms and $100 sandwiches at its theme parks, despite having scaled back its 'magic' since the pandemic began. A family vacation to Disneyland - once the pinnacle of summertime for middle-class American families - will today set a family of four back more than $6,000. With the average annual income now standing at $5,725 a month, this means a visit to the so-called 'happiest place on earth' is increasingly out of reach to the average American family.
