U.S. Representative Ted Lieu (D-CA) has challenged the U.S. bishops to refuse him Holy Communion at Mass, flaunting his support for abortion and same-sex marriage.
“Dear USCCB, I’m Catholic and I support contraception, a woman’s right to choose, treatments for infertility, the right for people to get a divorce, the right of same sex marriage,” Lieu tweeted Friday.
“Next time I go to Church, I dare you to deny me Communion,” he taunted.
The Jesuit-educated congressman, who attended Cleveland’s St. Ignatius High School and Georgetown University, enjoys a 100% legislator rating from lobbyist NARAL.

Or what? What will you do?
Openly and proudly flouting your disregard, contempt and pride at the creator is the worst possible sin.
If this cretin isn't denied communion, then the "church" is no longer a church of G-d. But then we already pretty much knew that.

And what will this SOB do if the priest denies him communion, stamp his little feet and cry? I guess he could go on the Sunday morning LSM charades and tell his woeful story to the unwashed. Real Catholics will applaud his denial.

Why doesn't he just find a faith that accepts all those liberal beliefs? If he is at Church to worship Our Savior, he shouldn't be concerned with politics. He should be on his knees praising God not trying to score political points.

For some people government is the new god. Since government approves of abortion that makes it okay. Church and all the trappings and teachings are no longer relevant or necessary. Where I see an innocent human life being taken they refuse to admit it is human and go about their business. There are many religious guidelines that can be debated but murder is not one of them.

Typical dip-shiff. Being refused Communion just might save his immortal soul. Keep supporting abortion and receiving Communion, your racking up mortal sins.
He is hurting no one but himself.

These politicians know which people will deny them Communion and deliberately avoid them.
The priest who was the longest serving priest in the Sacramento area famously kicked Governor Gray Davis, a pretend Catholic, off of church property.

An inclination to agree with "pro choice" is not enough to withhold the Sacrament. Public promotion of it might be, and positive contribution to the performance of an abortion definitely is.
What catches attention the chutzpah of his dare, which positions himself unambiguously as an ADVERSARY of the Church. Come to the Communion line I'm serving, Ted, and you just might get your wish.

Lord, it is you he is taunting, that your Church is not Your bride and the intermediary of your gifts and called upon to exercise judgment, but that it is a vending machine and he will kick it if the Cheetos don't drop out when he inserts a dollar. Please have mercy on his dumbness. And help his pastor find the Way here.

No #18 it isn’t the legislators responsibility to support the abortion factions either pro or anti. I don’t elect my legislators to pass laws having to do with abortion. It’s not my business how a woman chooses or doesn’t choose abortion because I don’t pretend to know her circumstances. Nor do I place myself in a position to judge that person like so many opponents seem to think they can do.
I really don’t care what some congressman thinks about his religion and partaking in its rituals.

So instead electing someone who stands by his beliefs, we should only elect mealy-mouthed, wishy-washy, middle of the road, spineless moderates? Sorry, but I know what my holy book says about fence sitters who refuse to take a side.

#23, it is perversely impressive that you are so unaware of the world wide score of societies, countries and governments who base their government on atheism vs a constitution that recognizes a higher moral power than the closest communist block captain. You wonder why 'we' would prefer laws formed from Judeo/Christian ethics vs the cruel, evil socialist/communist model. Read a history book or better yet cross the border into one of your 'workers' paradise dream countries. Cuba awaits. It's easy to whine when you are comfortable in the West, but I have to wonder why anyone who loves the bitter secular world bothers to hang around such fools. Why not jump ship to a world where men depend on the grace, wisdom and caring of other men? Maybe you hesitate because you caught a glimpse of the old East Germany or the current Cuba.

Why do we want Christians as our leaders? If you're not happy living in a nation established by Christians who wanted to openly practice their faith without fear of government persecution, perhaps you'd be happier living in a godless state like China or North Korea? I suppose you'd prefer North Korea, where practicing Christianity is a crime punishable by death.

Well! This is gonna be interesting. The bishops will either call his bluff or fold. In light of St. John Paul II's letter and Pope Benedict's instruction, I wonder what Pope Francis will do. There really is only one right answer, and it's the tough choice. No one who knowingly promotes abortion should be receiving Holy Communion. If they want to go to Mass, great. If they want to call themselves "Catholic," okay. But they should not present themselves for the Holy Sacrament. As GK Chesterton said, "We do not really want a religion that is right where we are right. We want a religion that is right where we are wrong. We do not want, as the newspapers say, a church that will move with the world. We want a church that will move the world.

Ted wants the Catholic Church to conform to his idea of a religion. He wants religion on his terms, not God's. Doesn't work that way. There are plenty of other religions that he can join that will accomodate his beliefs.

#21, we elect people into office to represent US. Many of us believe that all humans have a right to life and that the most vulnerable of us need to be protected until they can speak up for themselves. As you would not expect a baby to be able to protect himself from a pedophile, murderer, or even an abusive parent, you cannot expect a fetus to have the ability to stand up to someone trying to kill him either. The fetus is a human being and is living. He or she needs protection too--even from his own mother. A fetus is not an extension of its mother--it is a completely separate life with it's own DNA. That said, we who believe in the sanctity of life vote for representatives who support our beliefs.
#23 - it is not a costume. It is the priest's uniform for his job. Police and firemen wear uniforms...so does clergy. That said, I don't expect you (who is obviously not a believer) to understand the symbolism of communion. Still, even if you do not believe in God, I would hope you could respect the beliefs of others. Most honest people of faith have very good reason to believe. You may claim that His existence cannot be proven, but many have seen or experienced enough evidence to prove He does exist. And while nobody living can indisputably know without doubt that there is a Creator, nobody living today can indisputably know that there isn't. I can respect the agnostic for saying he has doubts, but it is willfully ignorant to claim to know for a fact that which is impossible to know.

Um, Ted Lieu, Communion is not a Constitutional right. Communion is given by Catholic Church Law & Rules. You can threaten and whine all you want Congressman Lieu. Your position in the US Congress has no power or influence in the church (in theory). You may think that you are some sort of god, as many in Congress do, but you are not. Get over yourself. If you don not follow church law, you don't get Communion. Get off your high horse.

Old reply but worth repeating, from the Preamble to the Constitution (which I assume Ted promised to uphold):
“ secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity”
How do you pass the blessings on to our posterity if you keep killing them?
