Pet food companies are swapping meat proteins for that of insects in a bid to reduce your cat or dog’s environmental impact or carbon pawprint.
Big name brands like Nestle Purina and Mars have recently joined the move by using dried black soldier fly larvae, while other companies, such as Jiminy’s, use cricket protein.
The shift aims to reduce the 64 million tons of carbon dioxide that is emitted each year from producing and the consumption of meat-based products.
Some companies say their insect farms only generate four percent of the current emissions released each year by farms that maintain cows, pigs and chickens.

Yesterday I saw a pizza made with cicada toppings...and the wings were delicately applied to the crust. Yuk!

Some brands use euthanized pet carcasses so bugs may be an improvement. Feeding our 7 dogs isn’t cheap but we’re careful what goes in them.

So I became aware of the cricket menu when Bill Gates said he ate crickets ergo the rest of us should eat crickets. After all, it's the protein, man. I will make my own "dog food" for my lovely catahoula feme. No mealy worms for her. No flies for her. I wonder if Bill Gates uses dental floss to get out the wings, etc. lodged between is ugly teeth? My Bella will love whatever I fix for her.

Someone at work brought us Chocolate Chirp Cookies that contained crickets. I thought that was kind of cute, actually.
I think all of the commissaries that serve Congress and the Senate should be forced to serve nothing but insect based proteins.

Given the other things my dogs have chosen to eat on their own when I wasn't looking, industrially processed insects would be an improvement.
Joking aside, please check what you're feeding your 4 legged friends right now. A lot of dog food brands don't even have protein or very little because they are corn or wheat based. Your dog gets nothing from that to keep them healthy, it's just filler.

Well, I guess the animals wouldn't be as grossed out as we would. But how long before they start sneaking this into our food?

What is the science on insect consumption? Do we know that ingesting insects is safe? Will pets even eat this stuff? Are insects farms regulated in the same way that any other livestock farm is regulated and checked by health inspectors? What is being fed to these these insects? Is it organic, gluten free, pesticide free? Are these critters harvested (i.e., slaughtered) humanly? How do they separate insect feces from nutritious insect parts, considering the size of insects? Will some insects induce hallucinations in my dog? I need to know!

I heard recently, that I believe it is Minnesota, that will allow liquidation of human remains so they can be washed down the sewer and solids can be used as fertilizer. That should work well for ground water and make for some great lettuce. Soylent Green liquid or pellets coming to a Home Depot near you.

Keep in mind that a lot of pet food companies get some of their ingredients from China. Imagine what is in those ingredients given the Chinese lack of clean processing and hygiene.
It’s a good idea to do a search on your pet’s food and find out where all of the ingredients come from. My two greyhounds and my cat are fed with only American processed and sourced food.

I fed my dog table food which was home cooked. he led a very long healthy life. Pet food is full of garbage now they are throwing in bugs for good measure to appease their false god of climate change. I'd like to see a report on the carbon emissions by country because I believe our contribution is way lower than most based upon population.

I would wager that the REAL reason, the 'bottom line'..... IS the Bottom Line.
I would wager that this insect mash is CHEAPER TO MAKE than normal proteins.
Consider this.... would they do it if it was MORE EXPENSIVE?
I bet NOT!
