From May 5th to June 29th, New York’s Rockefeller Center will be showcasing a new piece of artwork — a sculpture, to be exact — that reportedly combines a European-styled body with a face that resembles a traditional African mask.Known as the Oracle sculpture, it was made by artist Sanford Biggers and commissioned by the Art Production Fund. Speaking with Artnet, Biggers said that one of his goals was to add some African culture to the mix.“Biggers sees his work as as a companion of sorts to three of Rockefeller Center’s most prominent artworks: the Zeus relief sculpture at the entrance of 30 Rock,

Why remove it? That's the very apex of bLACK artistic achievement, second only perhaps to Bathhouse Barry's very gay and typically disrespectful pResidential portrait.

Looks much like a lot of the wood carvings I saw for sale in Africa. We didn't buy any of them, but bought some really nice African animal carvings.

Like I've said before, blacks are the new holy grail for demonrats since a lot of them defected from the demonrats in the 2020 election. Trump did more for blacks than demonrats ever will. They're just pretending (as usual) to vie for their vote so they can stab them in the back afterword.

You cannot appease the eternally butt-hurt woke crowd, so why does everybody keep trying?!?!?!?!?
If you don't do something celebrating African culture, you are a racist!!!
If you do something celebrating African culture, you are a racist!!! But we will overlook it if you will wear sackcloth and ashes, cry about what a racist you are, and give us millions of dollars!!!
All African "culture" gave this country were slaves that other black Africans enslaved and sold to slave traders. And right now I would say this country would be a lot better off if people here had never bought any of those slaves!!!

If I were a member of the black community, I would be insulted by this piece of garbage. Does NYC not have Fine Arts commissions that review this stuff before it's actually produced?! I guess they either left town or just rubber stamped it for the white liberal crowd.

Seriously? I'm not black ... sorry, Black .... but I'm offended. Not just by the sculpture ---- which gives new meaning to "modern art" being stupid & ugly ---- but to the constant pandering to one group (a small minority, btw) that should thank the Eternal Lord God that they get to live in America.
So if this "artist" wanted to praise another ethnic group, he/she/it would sculpt a similar caricature?

It’s the most stereotypical, racist, parody of blacks I’ve ever seen.

I lived in Ghana and traveled to many places in Africa; I've never seen any mask that looks like that sculpture. The face reminds me of Satchmo not some oracle. I'm sure white leftists will pretend it's everything.

I may be the only person on this thread who sees the humor in this but I laughed out loud when I saw this. I don’t know what this ‘artist’ was trying to celebrate but it looks like he was on crack when he was doing it.

I took one look at that thing and realized that the sculpture won't be sold as a miniaturized tourist souvenir anytime soon. Ebay will probably ban sales of it just like they banned collectors from trading in Sambos and Aunt Jemimas. It is that bad.

Maybe we can get some of the crews that were feverishly pulling down all those statues of Lincoln, Columbus, etc. to do the job that needs to be done here. Tell them it's a statue of Senator "Uncle Tim" Scott so they'll be duly outraged.
Seriously, any sentient black person should be embarrassed by this thing. It is yet another manifestation of overcompensation for a persistent inferiority complex.

It's a good thing I wasn't sipping my coffee at the moment I saw the photograph of this ... thing. The monitor would have been splashed by twin streams of java routed through the sinuses. If a white artist had done this, he'd be pilloried and "disappeared" for being a racist dolt. He'd be psychoanalyzed by counselors anxious to diagnose what racist stereotypes motivated him. Has he been watching old Tarzan movies? Did he ever hang out with pygmies?
And they put this object in from of Rockefeller Center? It's hilarious. You have to give it that.

Sometimes I think a black like this 'artist' does work like this to laugh at the white woke hipsters who fawn and fall for their garbage while they laugh all the way to the bank. The big final laugh would be if Biden invited the artist to the White House and presented this garbage in miniature to Joe Biden just to watch Biden's facial expression when he sees it in his ever confused state. Yes this is hilarious and the 'wokesters' are running the show.

Now I begin to understand the problem with New York. It's more than just this hideous statue. A relief of Zeus? That's Prometheus above the skating rink? Those are ancient false gods, ie. demons. New York displaying what is supposed to be art is literally graven images. Think about it.

Yea, hows that African culture working out in Chicago, Baltimore, Detroit, NYC, Newark, Tulsa, New Orleans, Oakland, Atlanta, Camden, St. Louis, Louisville, Minneapolis, and many other mostly black cities. Ask the Asians how that black culture is working out for them. Forget African culture, its the African culture of violence that everyone is suffering from. And no one, not Biden, not one democrat and not one black leader will address the problem that has grown out of control. You see, they're still looking for that white supremacist who attacking the Asians.....Got it..

I have no problem honoring people through art depicting them and/or their achievements. None. I have no problem celebrating people through art. None.
But this statue does not honor or celebrate people. Especially not African-American/Black people. (What are we calling them these days? It keeps changing and I don't want to insult anyone.)
If anything, this statue denigrates African-Americans. It looks like a caricature or a cartoon. That this passed as serious art amazes me. I believe it was done by a person of color. Apparently that makes it okay.
But if any white person had created this monstrosity, that person would have been crucified and/or burned at the stake. Charges of hate crimes would be lodged against him or her. And court would be convening in mere moments to make way for the inevitable execution.

Ok Black community, which is it: You want art by Black artists displayed or you don't. The Black community should be proud that the sculpture has been placed in a prominent place like Rockefeller Center. Sure you may not or understand the sculpture. There is lots of sculpture that other people don't like or understand by artists of other races. However, this sculpture looks like every other piece of African art that I have seen. It is just a giant caricature of so much other tribal art. You got what you wanted: A prominent Black artist on display in a very prominent place. Stop being so offended and be happy for once.

I believe the real objective of the artist and the people who approved this sculpture was to keep the stupid racist narrative and anger going. The media and democrats are promoting racial hatred and hatred for Christianity. They want everyone upset and blaming. The reality is that most black and white Americans get along fine with each other, and treat each other respectfully.

I was aghast at first, then I started to laugh. NYC has become a bad joke and this thing - that looks like a cartoon character - fits right in. A constant (until June 29) reminder that the liberal “leaders” of our big cities have sold out to 13% of the population. If those libs believe this will gain them a turnaround of a group of society better known for robbing, mugging and rioting, they are delusional. Like this figure, they are still tribal heads on legs.

As always, this was promised years ago. From The Communist Takeover Of America - 45 Declared Goals, US Congressional Record Appendix, pp. A34-A35 January 10, 1963.
22. Continue discrediting American culture by degrading all forms of artistic expression. An American Communist cell was told to "eliminate all good sculpture from parks and buildings, substitute shapeless, awkward and meaningless forms."
23. Control art critics and directors of art museums. "Our plan is to promote ugliness, repulsive, meaningless art."
