A gas station in Richmond, Virginia, charged customers $6.99 a gallon Tuesday not long after the governor declared a state of emergency because of the Colonial Pipeline ransomware cyberattack that caused gasoline shortages.According to WTVR, Lether Kerney, who pulled up to the BP gas station on Williamsburg Road, said, “It was a lot of people there, no one looked at the price.” “I had half a tank of gas, so when it got to $25 I started looking to see what was going on. And after I got to $30, I was like, ‘oh my God! I spent $35.45 to fill up my tank. Six gallons of gas for $35.

I am generally a free market person, but gross evil price gouging is both gross and evil.
Send the little shi(r)t to jail.

Gas and other commodities are usually priced not by what the seller paid but on what he WILL pay to replace it. So prices rise quickly and generally fall more slowly. Legally this has been labelled price gouging but is in fact just sound business practice. More importantly, what fool needed to top off his tank with only 6 gallons?

Nobody was complaining when there was a glut and prices went below $0.99

So sheep person Lether Kerney pulls into a gas station, no doubt after waiting in a long line, to put only six gallons of gas in his tank? It's panic buyers like this clown who make any shortage of fuel ten times as bad and contribute to the prices skyrocketing. Bet this selfish toad still has cases and cases of toilet paper that he panic bought during the Chinese Wuhan Bioweapon Flu Scamdemic and voted for the Usurper Biden. Jerk.

Well it's not the $9 a gallon that Obama said was his goal, but Joe is working on it

Oh good grief. Leave the guy be. Its his gas, he can charge what he wants for it. If the price is too high, people are free to go elsewhere. Besides, he's just getting ahead of the game. Biden and his communists will have us all paying that much in a year. Is it a crime if the government does it?

No, thanks. But....
I am NOT one of those ninnies who calls this "price gouging". In times of shortages, resources should be allocated to the purchaser in the market forces manner.
The great Dr. Walter Williams has written on this topic, and has some excellent explanations on why this is best over all for resource allocation.

There's no such thing as "price gouging". There is only supply and demand.
Raising prices in certain times helps make sure that more people get close to the amount of product they demand. If prices are too low the people in the front of the line will buy way more than they need and the people at the end will get nothing. Keeping the price artificially low just encourages panic buying.
The only thing price gouging laws prevent is supply.

Raising the price is one way to stop people bringing their jerry cans and taking more gas than they need. The other way is to limit people to $50 worth of gas at the market price. Take your pick.

Yes, it's his gas...yes, he can charge whatever he wants, but people know when they're being gouged and taken horrible advantage of and I hope he loses whatever customers he had.

In Texas we call that gouging, and it is extremely illegal.
However, if you pulled that with gas during an emergency, you would probably get lynched. But it certainly wouldn't be racist, because everybody in that line would get a shot in -- regardless of race, creed, or color!!!

My state has a law against gasoline price gouging. There were some stations hit with big fines the last time we got into a much smaller gas shortage. I haven't done much driving lately, but I do keep the tank topped off. the Commonwealth of Virginia thinks more highly of herself than she ought.

Six gallons is more than I usually put in my tank. Then again, my gas guage doesn't work and I have to guess my mileage so I don't run out of gas. Folks, not everyone can afford to fill their tank either. Some of us have to buy gas based on near-term need only to ensure we can budget our money for the month.

So all those who say there is no such thing as price gouging, when you need gas in an emergency, a natural disaster you need to flee for instance (FL folks understand this), and the gas stations say $50 a gallon of stay and drown, remember it's just supply and demand right?
Oh and Lether Kerney is a frightened old woman not a man. Pays to actually OPEN the article and read it. The gas station owner is an arse and should be prosecuted. The article and attached videos confirm this to my satisfaction.
