Susan Wright, the widow of the late congressman, and fellow Republican Jake Ellzey are running first and second in the all-party special House election in Texas, which would lock Democrats out of the runoff and end their most promising chance to expand their House majority this year.(Snip) The scenario would put a quick end to Democrats' hopes of challenging for the fast-diversifying 6th Congressional District outside Fort Worth. Democrats sensed opportunity in the district, which includes the Fort Worth suburbs and some rural and exurban counties to the southwest, one of many across the country where support for former President

Comments:

Democrat turnout down sharply. Before election Dem party leader said it would be a 'bad omen' if Dem candidates faltered.

With all the illegals the Rats are letting in Texas, it's beyond me how they could hope to win anything. Even some leftwingers are getting sick of this craziness.

Democrats saw a huge chance here and amassed 37% of the vote? Any comment from Nancy Pelosi?

The article uses the term "fast-diversifying" to describe the district. Just a euphemism for going down the drain. Every big city in the country is gone to the party of free stuff and no cops.

I smiled at this line from the article: ". . .a barrage of attacks painting Ellzey as an anti-Trump Republican, in large part because he has received a donation from Bill Kristol, the conservative commentator and Trump critic." Feels good to think that Bill Kristol is becoming radioactive. I mistrust insidious, two-faced RINOs more than I do blatantly corrupt dems.

SEATTLE — After an incident in late April when an employee of Chocolati in Wallingford refused to serve a pair of Seattle police officers, the company announced in a Facebook post that the company is parting ways with the employee. The scenario started on April 27 when Mike Solan, president of the Seattle Police Officers Guild, said that an officer and trainee went to the Wallingford location and was refused service. Solan said, “They were met with a bit of hostility.” Initially the employee ignored the pair, then said, according to Solan, “No, I won’t serve you.” After the incident

When will the United States reach herd immunity to COVID-19? Experts now say it might not — but that doesn't mean the virus has to remain a "society disrupter." That's according to a new report in The New York Times, which says there is now a "widespread consensus among scientists and public health experts" that in the U.S., the "herd immunity threshold is not attainable — at least not in the foreseeable future, and perhaps not ever." (Snip) These experts think that COVID-19 may continue circulating in the United States for years, the Times reports, but that vaccines can help turn it

The semiconductor shortage has slashed vehicle production so much that rental-car companies can’t get the new cars they need, so they have resorted to buying used vehicles at auction. This is uncharted territory for the likes of Hertz Global Holdings Inc. and Enterprise Holdings Inc., which have made their profits by purchasing new vehicles cheaply in bulk, renting them out for as much as a year and selling them at auction. In the past, they have bought some used cars to shore up an occasional unforeseen burst in demand, but rarely for the mainstays of their fleets. “You would never

While former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin has been found guilty, the other three officers at the scene when George Floyd died in police custody on May 25 face a trial this summer. The other former officers — J. Alexander Kueng, Thomas Lane and Tou Thao — are set to go to trial on Aug. 23, and it will be televised. The three are charged with aiding and abetting second-degree murder and aiding and abetting second-degree manslaughter. EPA Administrator Michael Regan will propose that U.S. will curb HFCs emissions 85% by 2035. “With this proposal, EPA is taking another significant step under President Biden’s ambitious agenda to address the climate crisis,” Mr. Regan said. “The phasedown of HFCs
