Boos and catcalls greet Mitt Romney

Based on the reaction he received as he spoke to the GOP convention in Utah, it looks like Mitt Romney has exhausted the reservoir of goodwill he enjoyed thanks to his saving of the 2002 Winter Olympics from financial disaster. I always assumed that the reason he enjoyed electoral victory when he ran for the Senate from the Beehive State, after having been born and raised in Michigan and making his career in Massachusetts, where he amassed a fortune and served as governor. (snip) His NeverTrump status and especially his vote to convict on one count of President Trump’s second impeachment seem to have alienated a lot of Utah Republicans

Of course I voted for Romney when he ran for Prez. What other choice was there? But in hindsight, I see what they were trying to sell us. How they were deluding us. I never felt enthusiastic about McCain, but with Palin on the ticket, had the same false hope. I think all true conservatives have been fooled enough now that we can smell a rat.

Romney has an F- (1%) rating on immigration issues from Numbers USA. By contrast, Senator Mike Lee has an 86% and newly elected Representative Burgess Owens a 100%. A 1% is a worse rating than Pelosi. Romney is an open border elitist. Romney is at war with the middle class. He is a dangerous anti-American.

Are we supposed to be embarrassed that we once supported you until that third debate against Obama, that you threw? Or should we have been embarrassed when your running mate refused to take the gloves off against Biden during their debate? I’m embarrassed that you are still coming to these events thinking you matter. Oh, and my future embarrassment will be watching you carry water for this sham of an administration. I believe it was the second debate, #18. Romney has an uphill battle ahead of him in the 2024 Utah Republican primaries. The result will depend upon just who will become his eventual opponent in those primaries. Even as a senator, Romney is increasingly seen in Utah as an empty vessel, putting on a show now and then to make him appear to be a busy senator serving his constituents. His votes against Trump have cost him dearly. Romney now polls better among the Utah dems than among the Utah Republicans.

Is Kamala Harris in open rebellion against Joe Biden? Sure looks that way. Seven weeks after being named Biden's border czar, she's in some sort of defiance against the job Biden gave her and racking up failures. (snip) Why does it look like rebellion? Start with the fact that he fobbed that job off onto Kamala quite possibly as a sort of payback to President Obama, who during a previous border surge, dumped that job onto him. He knew how hard it was, and how lazy and incompetent she was.

A terrific modern example of this might be liberal white hipsters co-opting fashion and social trends that were prominent in gay culture in the early aughts.
