Out After Guilty Verdict

The jury in the trial of former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin was at peace with the guilty verdict they rendered, the first juror to reveal his identity said this week. “After we deliberated and we had to do some explaining to a few people, breaking it down a little bit further, everybody was on the same page,” Brandon Mitchell, a 31-year-old high school basketball coach, said (Snip)“It wasn’t like we just walked right in the room and everybody was like ‘let’s get it done.’ There’s always one person that’s like ‘what about this, what about that.’ So we sat in the room and argued for a few hours pretty

Comments:

If you didn’t figure it out already - his language and immediate belief in Chauvin’s guilt, his mind made up, no need for the jury to deliberate - here is more on Brandon Mitchell:

Seems to me the choice of the jury was to railroad or how bad to railroad Chauvin we know the results. He was guilty before the swearing in of witnesses.

All that I can hear him saying is all but one person had their minds made up before deliberations. We did not want to hear his side or reason to not convict. We had to convince that one person to think our way so we could get out of there. That person eventually caved to peer pressure and voted to convict. The statements by the alternate juror give me the same impression: We just wanted to get out of there.

Anyone who voted guilty should be ashamed of themselves for the remainder of their cowardly lives. A police officer who followed established procedure full knowing that smartphone and police body cameras always roll NEVER committed murder, or manslaughter, or even bodily injury. He wasn't even guilty of harassment of use of excessive force. So how in the hell did they twist a second degree murder charge out of this? St. Fentanyl Floyd was a dead man walking due to underlying conditions, heart, drugs, and {gasp} COVID-19! I suspect Minneapolis and surrounding cities will see a massive reduction in Police ranks as a result of this. A cop can't even follow established procedures without risk of conviction. The Police profession has way too much risk and not nearly enough reward.

Disappointing and Scary that none of the jurors even seemed to want to consider the innocence of Chauvin whose life was at stake.. Not one American amongst them. Minneapolis is getting every single hardship caused by the looting and burning it deserves if this is the sort of people living there as represented by these jurors. Brandon Mitchell is proud of his failure as a citizen and as a human being and he is a high school coach! Floyd was a career criminal, and a drug addict who killed himself by overdosing on a cocktail of drugs, and a rotten absentee father to boot. The air is cleaner without him.

This is EXACTLY my one and only experience as a juror in a federal case about 7 years ago. Civil case. Many entered the juror room and burst out with their opinions that the plaintiff had no case. Others were just quiet and watching. I was confused because I thought we were supposed to go through all the evidence in a step wise way, regardless of what my initial take was. I held out with a bunch of questions to slow it all down but I didn’t take charge of it, per se. I felt the seriousness of what we were doing and I didn’t think the others did. Maybe that’s not fair. there are no rules about how to deliberate. No one was a leader in that group. So I’m a little embarrassed and it actually made me very frightened. I think the plaintiff just couldn’t prove what she alleged, so I think it was the right verdict. I just think the process was awful. I appreciate the juror in this case who insisted on his/her questions answered. But he got his answers from everybody who already had made up their minds. As did I. It’s a lot of info to have had to absorb and I felt the same way, like I needed to go through all of it again to make sure I understood well enough to come to a decision.

It’s the most feared conundrum of the professional anti-racist: What if the only way to stop one black genocide is to usher in another? Woke activists in the U.S. are currently grappling with this exact dilemma. Next week, the Biden administration is expected to enact a ban on menthol cigarettes, because menthols are genociding black Americans. An estimated 85% of black smokers use menthols, over three times the percentage of whites. Tobacco-related disease kills over 45,000 blacks a year, making it the No. 1 preventable cause of death for black Americans that doesn’t involve Gorilla Glue. Black health advocates argue that menthols are more addictive and more toxic than regular smokes

Army investigators detained a fellow soldier in the killing of Specialist Vanessa Guillén just hours after her remains were found, but a series of missteps allowed the soldier to flee, then fatally shoot himself, according to an Army report released Friday that examined what went wrong in the high-profile murder investigation. The revelation is part of a detailed report into the response to the murder, which has rocked the Army and sparked calls for increased accountability. Among the findings are conclusions that Specialist Guillen was sexually harassed, but not by the soldier who the Army believes killed her, and that the suspected killer had also been accused of unrelated sexual harassment.
