West Point Military Academy has expelled eight cadets and held back 53 others for a year over its biggest cheating scandal in more than 40 years.
The centuries-old New York training academy announced the punishments Friday after a full investigation into 72 freshmen and one sophomore accused of cheating on an online freshman calculus exam in May. It also announced it was scrapping its “willful admission process” that allowed 55 of the cheaters to escape expulsion by confessing.
“West Point must be the gold standard for developing Army officers.

Too bad that The Commander and Chief isn't held to the same standards. How many times did he plagiarize? And, because he is stupid, he used the recent or well known speeches of other famous people. No problems for him.
I'm all for expelling cheaters and their need to know that “West Point must be the gold standard for developing Army officers. We demand nothing less than impeccable character from our graduates...” just as long as that holds true for their admissions policy.
Did they have more cheaters naturally, or were there more this year because they accepted candidates by quota rather than competence?

Each member of Congress is given 5 slots for each of three academies (West Point, the Naval Academy, and the Air Force Academy). All go (of course) to the offspring of the highest campaign donors.
In our structurally corrupt, deep state privileged system, after daddy bought your way there, why not cheat your way through?

Fifty-two were athletes. Hmm. Not a lot of Amish on the West Point team.

I would guess that the 53 will carry this cross throughout a short career.

The photo I saw in a different publication showed the cadets as all black and all female.

We all know that Calculus is "racist" because it was invented by some white dude in England as a means of keeping people of color down for the struggle. s/o

That is not true Poster #3, my nephew graduated from Annapolis in 1996 and he got there because he's a very smart man. His dad was a welder and his mom ran a day care, strictly blue collar all the way, he's now a Captain and works in the Pentagon.

There was a boy who went to school with my kids who was an exceptional student and a great baseball player. He got a scholarship to Harvard because he was a smart kid who could play baseball, and earned his degree without difficulty.
If you are not smart or disciplined enough to attend college, much less a school that prepares you for the rigors of leadership and warfare, you should not get in just because you are a decent athlete. Maybe people who grew up without discipline and character should be encouraged to apply elsewhere.

Yes #3 and #10, I had one kid who is a USMA alumni, and I know a few others, I also know some of their peers who went to the other 3 academies... none of these kids had any appearance at all of having the means to "buy" their way into an academy. All 8-10 of these kids were self-starters, demanded excellence in all they do, and were natural leaders. Having gone to many all-Academy banquets and celebrations, and mingling with the parents, I never imagined any of them as getting in because they donated money of something somewhere. Athletics is a whole different story, though, and one that I have very little academy familiarity with.

So we're gonna have 53 cheaters in the officer ranks of the federal governments meals on wheels program. War fight knowledge not required. So much for honor and integrity.
By the way, color don't matter.
