Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney (D-Penn.) is facing a lawsuit from several Italian-American civil rights groups, as well as a member of his own city council, over his administration’s decision to formally change the holiday Columbus Day to “Indigenous Peoples’ Day,” as reported by ABC News. The lawsuit was filed on Tuesday, and declares that the mayor “may not take action that discriminates against Italian-Americans to exalt another ethnic group in its place.” The lawsuit points to other efforts by Kenney to remove historical monuments and commemorations of great Italians, which it says is proof of a systematic pattern of discrimination against Italian-Americans.

Comments:

This is such good news!!!! It may seem like a small thing in the overall scheme of things, but it is huge!!! American people other than blacks doing more than just protesting their being discriminated against. The pastor of the Polish church in Calgary who shouted the local cops out of his Easter service was on Primetime last night with Mark Steyn. He grew up in postwar Poland where the Communists ruled with an iron hand. It wasn’t until Lech Walesa took to the streets - “There were millions in the streets! - that change began to come to that beleaguered country. He said we must do the same.

Christopher Columbus was not elected to his work while tending bar. He was a stubborn and active student of a navigation school. He presented his unproven theory to the rulers of Spain and proved his theory. He made 4 trips across the Atlantic to the new world and discovered the Trade Winds in the process. On one trip he left a group of his men (volunteers) on an island with the Indians there. When he returned they had disappeared - never to be seen again. He did not ferry African slaves to the new world. The anti Columbus woke stuff we read is phony & invented.

The crossing of the Atlantic by Columbus - - an idea that he himself initiated, fought for, and executed - - was one of the most monumental achievements in human history. Two entire hemispheres - - which were previously unaware of each other's existence - - were brought into contact. And here we have a pipsqueak, failed mayor - - of a degenerating city - - trying to denigrate that fabulous accomplishment. Pfooey on that corrupt pol!

I spend a few hours daily perusing the news -- mostly via L.com but not entirely -- and it seems to me the backfire is beginning. Pretty loudly, too. It may be too late but I don't think so. The lefttards and dimbulbs have a tiger by the tail and she's mad as hell. The only obstacle that may be insurmountable is blatant voter fraud and the pipsqueak 'pubbie's unwillingness to do much about it.

If Phili wants to have an indigenous peoples day, then go for it. But do not take away Columbus Day to do it. That is just pure evil, and a PC attack on history!!!! There are 364 other days that could be indigenous peoples day. Use one of them. Problem solved!!!

Good! Philly has a very large Italian American community. The open air blocks-long Italian Market on 9th Street (IIRC) was my favorite place to go grocery shopping when I went to college in the city in the early 70’s.

It provides millions of dollars of tax revenue for the city, and the parade is manned by mostly Italian American clubs that provide the bands. Talk about shooting yourself in the foot.

In the maelstrom spurred by lies about Georgia’s voting law, woke corporations again endeavored zealously to virtue signal for the Left. Echoing and acting upon the Left’s deliberate disinformation campaign—including, notably, President Biden’s infamous “Jim Crow on steroids” doggerel—Coke, Delta, Major League Baseball, and sundry others excoriated the Peach State’s new statutory liberalization of voting procedures. In an interesting twist, these “free-market” entities, which are often threatened with boycotts from the Left, demanded the cancellation of an entire state. Leftist ideologues from the Chicago school have a typical playbook they pull from. One of their strategies is to flood the zone of politics to create chaos that allows them to act under cover of the distracted nature of their plan. JoeBama turning his eye toward the Supreme Court while pushing COVID crisis, the Border crisis, promoting infrastructure and simultaneously advancing on the filibuster rule is classic Chicago, aka Alinsky. The deployment of a commission to study reform in the Supreme Court, while simultaneously having a plan to install Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson (50) to replace Justice Stephen Bryer, now 82-years-old, is all part of that chaos approach.

It takes a very good writer to produce prose that prompts emotions a reader has experienced in an unconnected past. It also takes a good writer to subtly tip off the reader of the change in the character of the American people, one in which toughness has been replaced by weakness. Talleyrand once remarked that no one who had been born after the French Revolution could know how sweet life could be. Larry McMurtry wrote about life in small American towns in the ’50s, and the great American West in the late 19th century, and his writing evoked feelings that those born after those dates could perceive. Joe Biden may have been something like a moderate, once. As a senator, he defended the Hyde Amendment, which protects pro-life taxpayers from footing the bill for something they consider to be murder. Senator Biden also voted for the Religious Freedom Restoration Act (RFRA) in 1993. Even as late as 2003, Biden voted for a bill to prohibit partial-birth and late-term abortion. Biden did indeed work with Republicans to pass legislation. In 1987, Biden condemned Franklin Delano Roosevelt’s scheme to pack the Supreme Court to support the New Deal. But Austin has a huge problem.
