The New York Times is running with a story that claims “the Justice Department is said to be” “inquiring” into an “unclear” report that it’s “possible” Florida Republican Congressman Matt Gaetz was involved with a 17-year-old girl two years ago.
Having sex with a minor is serious business and should be punished.
No charges have been brought against the congressman. In fact, it’s “unclear,” to use the NYT’s word, whether it even rises to an “investigation.”
Forgive us if we’re a bit skeptical of the same news outfits that “reported” planned leaks that Trump was a Russian secret agent who hired hookers

Actress Gina Carano lost her job with Disney’s The Mandalorian for warning against the Nazi-like dehumanization of others and the awful places that can lead.
Former Democrat Sen. Heidi Heitkamp recently smeared Carano as both a “Nazi” and as someone who hangs around “white supremacists” during a segment on Bill Maher’s Real Time show.
Carano noticed, and called Heitkamp out on Twitter. Democrats have been getting away with such smears for years now, decades. They called all Republican presidents in my lifetime either Nazis or racists or some variation on that theme, including Ronald Reagan and both Bushes. While dishonest and despicable, those insults targeted political figures.

Hours after the New York Times broke a story on the Justice Department investigating sex trafficking allegations against Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fl.), Gaetz appeared on Fox News’ Tucker to refute the claims.
Asked about the story by Tucker Carlos, Gaetz says “It is a horrible allegation, and it is a lie.”
Gaetz reiterated claims made on Twitter and elsewhere that the allegations stem from a former Justice Department official who was attempting to blackmail him. That official, who Gaetz named as “David McGee,” contacted Gaetz’s father, according to the Republican House member.
Gaetz says his family went to the local FBI in Florida, who then asked his father to wear a wire

You’ve heard of “Brexit” — Britain’s exit from the European Union.
Meet LEXIT — Latinos exiting the Democratic Party.
The LEXIT Strike Force, led by Texas businessman Duke Machado, is running a slate of candidates taking on the Democrats who dominate San Antonio’s city council. The LEXIT Strike Force held a press conference in San Antonio Tuesday to highlight the candidates it is supporting in the Alamo City’s upcoming elections.
Mr. Machado, the strike force’s national director, led off the press conference articulating the group’s core values.
“LEXIT USA completely opposes Joe Biden’s policy on catch and release,” Machado said. “Illegal immigrants coming across our border are just flooding into the state of Texas.

A spokeswoman for Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey says the state’s mask mandate will end April 9 despite the president’s request for states to reinstate them.
Ivey spokeswoman Gina Maiola said Monday that we are moving towards personal responsibility and not government mandates.
President Joe Biden and a top health official on Monday appealed for mask requirements and other restrictions to be maintained or restored to stave off a “fourth surge” of COVID-19.
Alabama has kept a mask mandate in place longer than surrounding states, but Ivey has made clear it will not be extended.

Americans are being told to wait until it is their turn to get a coronavirus vaccine while wealthy Mexicans are heading north to the United States to get vaccinated.
In Mexico, only five percent of citizens have been vaccinated and the wait time is lengthy.
Taxpayer-funded National Public Radio (NPR) reported on what the leftwing media outlet called “the quest for shots.” According to Carrie Kahn, an NPR journalist stationed in Mexico:
David Gutiérrez Inzunza, a Baja California state public health official in the Mexican border city of Tijuana, said the state has been hit hard by the coronavirus. He was one of thousands

Two reporters from the Associated Press and a camera crew from CBS News were allowed inside the Donna, Texas holding facility today. What they witnessed was massive overcrowding with 4,100 people packed in a space which ought to only hold 250. The Biden administration for the first time Tuesday allowed journalists inside its main border detention facility for migrant children, revealing a severely overcrowded tent structure where more than 4,000 people, including children and families, were crammed into a space intended for 250 and the youngest were kept in a large play pen with mats on the floor for sleeping…

A curious news blip rolled across Twitter today, from YouTube. Why would YouTube do this? The current system replaced YouTube’s old 5-star rating system some years ago — in 2009. That’s when the thumbs up/thumbs down system came into being. Fictional Big Bang Theory character Sheldon Cooper confessed that the change stressed him out, but most humans didn’t care much one way or the other. YouTube’s thumbs up/down system has been in place for about a dozen years. People use these ratings to decide whether to watch or skip a video probably millions of times a day. It’s especially helpful for instructional videos and product ratings

We’ve been hearing this sotto voce for a few weeks, and we’re also seeing it in data from areas with better delivery of inoculations too. However, CDC director Rochelle Walensky offered it as a conclusion last night in an interview with MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow, noting that this has been confirmed by “real-world data” as well as in clinical trials. However, Walensky’s overall message was aimed not at promoting a return to normalcy but in extending the restrictions in the US — at least for a little while (via Breitbart and Allahpundit): “I’m so impressed with our ability to vaccinate at a clip of 3 million vaccinations a day

Americans outraged by the storming of Capitol Hill are in for a jarring reality check: Many of those who invaded the halls of Congress on Jan. 6 are likely to get little or no jail time.
While public and media attention in recent weeks has been focused on high-profile conspiracy cases against right-wing, paramilitary groups like the Oath Keepers and the Proud Boys, the most urgent decisions for prosecutors involve resolving scores of lower-level cases that have clogged D.C.’s federal district court.
A POLITICO analysis of the Capitol riot-related cases shows that almost a quarter of the more than 230 defendants formally and publicly charged so far face only misdemeanors

Forty years is a lifetime ago, but I still can recall this like it was just last week.
Ronald Reagan was a transformational president in so many ways it is hard to recall actually in one sitting or post all that his administration accomplished. Volumes of books have been written about him and I have read most of them. The Gipper is the one President I wished I could have voted for (I turned 18 in 1988 when he was termed out) but he was my guy. He was America, and represented this country incredibly well and I hated to see him leave the White House.
We almost lost him, though.

The Washington Post has awarded Joe Biden four Pinocchios (the max) for a patently false claim he made about the new Georgia law on voting. Biden said the following during a press conference:
What I’m worried about is how un-American this whole initiative is. It’s sick. It’s sick … deciding that you’re going to end voting at five o’clock when working people are just getting off work.
Two days later, e followed up with this official statement:
Among the outrageous parts of this new state law, it ends voting hours early so working people can’t cast their vote after their shift is over.
But the Georgia law does no such thing.
