We’ve been hearing this sotto voce for a few weeks, and we’re also seeing it in data from areas with better delivery of inoculations too. However, CDC director Rochelle Walensky offered it as a conclusion last night in an interview with MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow, noting that this has been confirmed by “real-world data” as well as in clinical trials. MADISON, Wis. — The Wisconsin Supreme Court struck down Democratic Gov. Tony Evers’ statewide mask mandate Wednesday, stripping the governor of one of his last remaining tools to curb large-scale spread of COVID-19 as the state stands on the precipice of another surge in infections.
The conservative-leaning court ruled 4-3 that Evers violated state law by unilaterally issuing multiple emergency orders to extend the mandate for months. The court found Evers needed legislative approval to issue more orders after the initial 60-day mandate he issued in August expired.
“The question in this case is not whether the governor acted wisely; it is whether he acted lawfully.
Great news, but with a couple of caveats. In a release this morning, Pfizer declared that a trial involving 2,000 children between ages 12 and 15 showed its vaccine to be 100% effective against COVID-19 infections. That’s an even better rate than its previous Phase 3 trials among adults, in an environment with more variants in the mix to boot. With the FDA already allowing Pfizer vaccinations at 16 years and up, the news could touch off the next phase of the battle to end the pandemic — with middle and high schools as the battlegrounds. So what’s the catch?

The New York Times is running with a story that claims “the Justice Department is said to be” “inquiring” into an “unclear” report that it’s “possible” Florida Republican Congressman Matt Gaetz was involved with a 17-year-old girl two years ago.
Having sex with a minor is serious business and should be punished.
No charges have been brought against the congressman. In fact, it’s “unclear,” to use the NYT’s word, whether it even rises to an “investigation.”

Actress Gina Carano lost her job with Disney’s The Mandalorian for warning against the Nazi-like dehumanization of others and the awful places that can lead.
Former Democrat Sen. Heidi Heitkamp recently smeared Carano as both a “Nazi” and as someone who hangs around “white supremacists” during a segment on Bill Maher’s Real Time show.
Carano noticed, and called Heitkamp out on Twitter. Democrats have been getting away with such smears for years now, decades. They called all Republican presidents in my lifetime either Nazis or racists or some variation on that theme, including Ronald Reagan and both Bushes. While dishonest and despicable, those insults targeted political figures.
Hours after the New York Times broke a story on the Justice Department investigating sex trafficking allegations against Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fl.), Gaetz appeared on Fox News’ Tucker to refute the claims.
Asked about the story by Tucker Carlos, Gaetz says “It is a horrible allegation, and it is a lie.”
Gaetz reiterated claims made on Twitter and elsewhere that the allegations stem from a former Justice Department official who was attempting to blackmail him. That official, who Gaetz named as “David McGee,” contacted Gaetz’s father, according to the Republican House member.

The LEXIT Strike Force, led by Texas businessman Duke Machado, is running a slate of candidates taking on the Democrats who dominate San Antonio’s city council. The LEXIT Strike Force held a press conference in San Antonio Tuesday to highlight the candidates it is supporting in the Alamo City’s upcoming elections.
Mr. Machado, the strike force’s national director, led off the press conference articulating the group’s core values.

A curious news blip rolled across Twitter today, from YouTube. Why would YouTube do this? The current system replaced YouTube’s old 5-star rating system some years ago — in 2009. That’s when the thumbs up/thumbs down system came into being. Fictional Big Bang Theory character Sheldon Cooper confessed that the change stressed him out, but most humans didn’t care much one way or the other. YouTube’s thumbs up/down system has been in place for about a dozen years. People use these ratings to decide whether to watch or skip a video probably millions of times a day.
