It’s one thing if a single news outlet publishes a fraudulent anonymously sourced “scoop.” It’s another thing entirely if multiple newsrooms claim to have independently “confirmed” the fraudulent “scoop” with anonymous sources of their own. The former can reasonably be explained away as a simple error; the latter is not so simple. It's unrealistic so many sources would be wrong about the same thing. It's more likely competing news outlets spoke with the same anonymous individual or individuals, which leads to uncomfortable questions about whether the media were merely fed bad information or were intentionally manipulated.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation is trying to find out if New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo and his advisors provided false numbers on the state's nursing home deaths during the coronavirus pandemic to the Department of Justice last summer, according to a New York Times report on Friday.
Four people with knowledge of the probe told The Times that federal investigators have subpoenaed Cuomo's office for documents regarding the data, reached out to lawyers for Cuomo's aides, and spoken to officials from the state's Health Department on the matter.
The investigation is part of the FBI's broader examination of Cuomo's handling of nursing homes
The D.C. superior court granted National Review’s motion to dismiss climate scientist Michael Mann’s long-running defamation suit.
More than eight years ago, Mann launched the suit against NR, writing privately that he saw it as an opportunity to “ruin” this “filthy organization.”
The lawsuit stemmed from a blog post on The Corner by Mark Steyn back in 2012 criticizing Mann’s work. The climate scientist threatened a lawsuit unless NR removed the offending post and apologized, which it refused to do. Mann then sued NR, Steyn, and the Competitive Enterprise Institute (Steyn quoted a CEI article in his post).

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on Friday announced new guidance for physical-distancing requirements between children in schools, allowing for just three feet of space between students instead of the six feet it had previously recommended.
The new guidance, which will allow more students to be inside classrooms, does not apply to teachers and other adult school staff who still must remain six feet apart. Masks should remain mandatory as well, according to the CDC.
Students also must continue to maintain six feet of distance in common areas, such as auditoriums, and when masks are off, the guidance says.
To the surprise of no one, New York Times and reporter Sheryl Gay Stolberg was disingenuous in a Thursday story accusing culture-war obsessed Republicans of endangering America’s health during the pandemic: “Biden’s Top Health Posts Remain Empty as G.O.P. Focuses on Culture Wars,”
It’s clear The Times considers free expression, abortion, and women’s right to spaces of their own are time-wasting clickbait -- though with the issues of Dr. Seuss, abortion, and transgender activism, it’s invariably Republicans reacting to leftist overreach.
She began by fretting that it was the GOP that were waging in culture wars:

Parents who wanted children back in social settings and students in the most need of personal guidance have been given the chances they asked for, and the results have been only positive across the board. Now, data is supporting this decision as well.
During the pandemic, the media have been operating in a paradox.
We now have several COVID vaccines. All work, all have passed safety testing, and all are in wide distribution.
This is a huge accomplishment, but there’s one problem: A lot of people aren’t taking the shot.
Are they just ignorant anti-vaxxers?
No. As a recent focus group by Frank Luntz, reported in The Washington Post, demonstrates, a lot of people who won’t take the vaccine aren’t skeptical about vaccines in general. Just about this batch.
So maybe they’re just Red State Luddites?
No. In fact, it’s a worldwide phenomenon.
Shootings at two Atlanta-area massage parlors left eight people dead Tuesday evening. Six of the eight women appeared to be Asian Americans, yet the motive behind the shootings remains unknown. Police arrested a suspect, 21-year-old Robert Aaron Long, on Wednesday. Long reportedly told investigators that he had a sexual addiction and saw the businesses as a temptation he needed to eliminate.
Yet prominent Democrats rushed to blame “white supremacy” for the heinous shootings.

The Washington Post reports that “momentum is stalling amid congressional efforts to swiftly investigate the Jan. 6 riot at the U.S. Capitol.” Good.
The Democrats want to use the riot for political purposes. They hope, with assistance from the always-obliging media, to present it as the tip of an insurrectionary iceberg spearheaded by hardcore Trump supporters.
To this end, Nancy Pelosi favors a 9/11 style commission. She would like this small riot, in which only a handful of people died, to live in infamy the way the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks, in which thousands of American perished, does. But comparing Jan. 6 and 9/11 is absurd

Texas Governor Greg Abbott in Dallas on Wednesday about the growing surge of migrants at the U.S. border with Mexico. The governor directly blamed President Joe Biden’s open borders policies for the humanitarian crisis.
Governor Abbott spoke at a hotel located across the street from the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center in Dallas where FEMA is housing some 3,000 teenage boys ages 15 to 17. Breitbart Texas reported the teens would stay at the convention center for up to 90 days.

The resignation of Houston Police Chief Art Acevedo came as a surprise to most Houstonians, including the mayor. The announcement also caught many Miami officials by surprise, the city that has hired Acevedo. Miami officials were conducting a nationwide search for a police chief. Acevedo had not formally applied for the job. Apparently, Acevedo has friends in Miami City Hall. Houston City Hall was in the dark.
