Conservative talk radio legend Rush Limbaugh died last week at the age of 70 after a battle with lung cancer.Soon after the tragic news, several of the most influential names in conservative media mourned the loss of Limbaugh and noted how he, in some way, helped give them their start in talk radio. Now, many are wondering what might happen next with his popular radio show. Thomas LaDuke, a contributor to Red State who also hosts a radio show, published a piece where he made some very striking comments about the future of Limbaugh’s program.

For the last week on the show, it's almost like he's still here.
When my wife, also a Rush devotee, worried that now we won't know what Rush would have thought about future unfolding events, I replied that as a long-term listener, I probably would.

Would President Trump be interested? It could be a good fit - if he's willing to do it.

I have really enjoyed the celebration of life on the show this past week. It was nice to hear Kathryn share her stories. Being Irish I appreciate the comfort that a wake can bring a family and there has been comfort. It was interesting to relive certain memories of past shows that I remember so vividly. Dan's Bake Sale, farding, "In a Yugo," Operation Chaos, and the genesis of Rush Revere. His predictions, even years ago are so spot on and still relevant. As far as I'm concerned, they could replay the last thirty two years and he'd still be number one. Remembering Rush with love and joy is a good way to honor him, carrying his legacy by acting on what we learned and what we always knew but that he reaffirmed, will is a great way to honor him. My goodness, I have never felt this way about anyone that I wasn't close to or, an actual family member.

Rush was successful because he thoroughly prepared for each show. I think Todd Herman would do the best job of any. He always seemed prepared even when he was called on to do the show on short notice. Same with Ken Matthews. Mark Steyn always came off to me as being a bit flip as opposed to being thoroughly prepared. It depends on how much Rush's preparation skills rubbed off on Kathryn as to whether she could be successful.

#3 is right. This is pure click bait.
The celebration of life that has been the past week was a necessary prologue to El Rushbo's tenure but it needs to stop and make way for the transition. Been wondering myself over the past year who "the next Rush" will be. What made him special was that you never got tired of listening because he always offered new insights and perspectives on every issue. No one else can pull that off. Certainly not Hannity, who hasn't had an original thought in his career. I never understood why, but Rush was always fond of Jesse Waters and that would be a total disaster. I suggest continuing the guest-host rotation among Mark Steyn, Todd Herman, Ken Matthews, Chris Plante, and Bret Winterville - all of great approach with the required keen wit to keep it interesting.

I hope they keep playing clips from his shows. They are as relevant today as they were when he was alive. He is still the voice of reason that we all need. Keep it going!

Many of the 600+ EIB affiliates are small market stations. You can bet the majority of their
income came from the three hour Limbaugh block. If Rush resurrected the AM dial, his passing
could relegate that band back into history.
I find it hard to believe Rush would let his hard earned legacy and empire fade away. He had time
to ensure it wouldn't. This has yet to play out and I wouldn't bet against the EIB continuing to be a force.
That said, this article is, yes, worthless.

RUSH was a one of a kind gift on loan from God so, 'replacement,' is impossible. It wouldn't even be fair to find another RUSH. Yet we know he inspired many others to work hard, study and speak the truth with grace and humor. Thanks to his example there are others now with that courage who can speak for conservatives in their own unique way during this pivotal time for America. My personal favorite right now would be Chris Plante, but I'm sure there are many others who have a passion for this country and that for which it stands.

The run is over. Paul Harvey provides a good example...how long did his son's successor show last? At best, Kathryn would hold some listeners pining for a Rush fix. I don't see her as a "replacement", nor anyone else. Let's not forget, EIB was a one man show that was syndicated to stations across the fruited plain. Why would a radio general manager pay EIB for less than Rush brought? Local talking heads are dime a dozen, as are lesser "radio stars" with their syndicated shows.

Steven Crowder (and crew) hilariously irreverent, now in a dispute with Twitter (surprise there)!
I love Steyn, but he tends to be (also hilariously) elliptical at times; whereas Rush and Crowder direct, to the point and more nimbly effective

I think Rush chose his Replacement before he passed. He was that kind of person, not leaving anything to chance. He had plenty of time to get his affairs in order. I don't think Kathryn has the voice for Radio. I don't care for Mark Styne, I usually turn off the Radio if he's hosting. Todd Herman is good along with others. I'm sure Rush was listening to them Host and he made his decision based on who he thought his audience would like. I surely miss Rush! Nobody will "Replace" him! But, life goes on and so will the Show!

He retired a few years ago and at his age he probably wouldn't be interested, but Neal Boortz would be a good fit. His syndicated show from Atlanta was similar in style to Rush and he'd go head to head with callers when ever challenged.

Truth time.
I am not enjoying the show. Been a fan since it came on locally. Hearing Rush on air now is creepy. That content will soon be stale and outdated. The show is being kept alive bc it is a marketing entity. Listeners are a customer base for product, specifically books. And they do not want to lose it.
Rush always used his show to sell product. That is the goal of many talk miesters. We accepted it. It was his right to do that. But it was what it was. And now they don't want to let that customer base evaporate.
Rush is gone. God rest his soul. They are attempting to keep his franchise alive by turning it into something akin to an audio version of Lennon's corpse. It is sad and pathetic. Plus unnatural.
I am sorry. Just being honest.

The EIB network had a contract with hundreds of AM stations, and included the personal services of Rush. Without Rush, that would seem to have terminated the contract, and a new one would have to be negotiated with an anchor acceptable to all those stations.

A good replacement for Rush would be Derek Hunter. Smart guy, good sense of humor and definitely down with the cause.

The EIB network, with fill in hosts and Kathryn, may try to keep this show alive but it will not be successful in the long term. Rush had contracts with all these small stations and when the listeners start falling off, the contracts will end. Let's face it in order to be successful in radio the first thing you must have is a "radio voice". Rush had the best voice in radio and none of the other fill-ins have that, especially Mark Steyn. I like Mark but find his voice difficult to listen to on a regular basis. It is sad to contemplate but Rush is gone and the show will have to come to an end at some point.

The EIB (or Limbaugh) business has a pretty solid hold on 12-3. Of course, with Rush gone, it's going to be difficult to maintain that dominance. But if I'm the caretaker of the "Limbaugh brand," I'm going to try and continue to bring that revenue stream as long as I can. After all, I think Elvis Presley makes more money now than when he was alive (fortunately, he no longer has Col Parker taking 50% off the top; I assume Rush had better and less expensive agents).
But those decisions don't need to be made in haste. It's less than a week since Rush "assumed room temperature" (I think that was one of his lines). Run the guest hosts for a few weeks, just like they are doing with Jeopardy. At some point, it will be time for The Mark Steyn Program (my preference), or The Todd Herman Show, or whatever. A quick decision could spell the end of the franchise.
Remember that political figures and celebrities don't make good radio talk show hosts. Remember, Mario Cuomo tried it. Not for long. As Rush pointed out, one of the drawbacks of being a radio host is that you actually have to be on time and ready to go, in his case at 12:00 Eastern every day for three hours. He made it look simple. It isn't.

The article is useless. That said, I am sure Rush and the EIB Network have a plan considering that Rush knew his diagnosis a year ago.

#24 I like Shapiro but he talks too fast and is humorless. Styne is the only substitute with a "voice" but with his accent he can be difficult to understand.Tucker Carlson is too serious and too technically thorough to tolerate for 3 hours.
There is no other Rush, like Paul Harvey, just let it go.
