Much of Seattle’s 2021 cruise season could be canceled after Canadian authorities on Thursday extended a pandemic-related ban on large cruise ships in Canadian waters through February 2022.
Passage through Canadian waters and to Canadian ports is key for the Seattle-based cruise business, which has been largely on hold since last spring due to U.S. and Canadian restrictions. (snip) Cancellation of the 2020 cruise season cost around 5,000 local jobs and at least $900 million in economic activity. In 2019, the Seattle cruise industry had its biggest year: Seven cruise lines carried 1.2 million passengers on 11 vessels over more than 220 voyages, a port spokesperson said.
I have a cruise going out of Vancouver in September...guess not anymore.

We love cruising and can't wait to get back to it but the new regs from every cruise line say masked up, socially distanced, only ship based excursions, etc.... that is all a hard pass for us. Not unlike Disney now.. not very vacation-y. We will just wait until the vaccine is standard, the count goes down, the media driven unremittent fear is not so politically expedient (this is the big variable) ,and with that the masks are gone. Plenty of places to spend our vacation dollars and not be so restricted as to take all the joy out of the journey.

Maybe BLM and Antifa can start a cruiseline and take folks to see the sights of Seattle!

All because of a disease that is little, if any, worse than the seasonal flu. “Whom the gods would destroy they first make mad.”

Prior to the installation of the current regime, Pres Trump would have waived the regulation requiring the ships to stop at a foreign port (ie, Canada). Go ahead and let 'em go from Seattle to Alaska. But Sleepy Creepy Crooked Uncle President Joe ain't gonna let that happen.

Well, that's just special! We have a "Free Cruise" and we were going to use it to go to Alaska in June or July! Guess not! I don't know what the problem is. If everyone on Board has proof of full vaccination, it's a lot safer than going to a place where tons of people are walking around who choose to not be vaccinated (and you have no way of knowing who they are). I'm ready to Cruise. I get my second shot in 11 days. I understand we have to wait another two weeks before the Vac is at 90%, but after that, Geesh! I'm ready to get out of the House and be among friends and family! I want to Cruise this year! I want to Shop for Pretty Clothes. I want to eat in a Restaurant. I want to go go see my 1 year old Great-Grand who I've never seen in person. I do NOT want anyone telling me I can't do those things, even after getting the Shots! I'm going to start learning swear words to use if I meet up with someone like that!! And I mean really, really Bad swear words! They will deserve it!

We wouldn't consider a cruise out of Seattle due to the lawlessness in the past year! Seattle already was littered with homeless encampments on our last cruise in 2018. If the White House occupants don't steal us blind, maybe we'll be ready for another cruise in 2022. Looks like stay-cation this year!

The problem is #6 is that cruise ships, thanks to federal regulations (Passenger Vessel Services Act of 1886) , almost all being nonUS flagged/ nonUS manufactured ships cannot a) transport passengers from one US city to another without visiting a distant foreign port and b) cannot do a round trip cruise from a US port without visiting a foreign port. Canada is the only foreign port option for the Alaska season.
Also, since the vaccine is not a 100% proof you won't get Covid, though it substantially reduces the likelihood you will have a case that hospitalizes or kills you, you can still give Covid to others unwittingly after having the vaccine..... AND Canada has done an abysmal job of getting enough vaccine for it's citizens and getting those shots in arms so they are literally months behind even places like Mexico which is presently administering 3 different vaccines to it's citizens.

The communists in both the United States and Canada have sunk more ships (Joke) than the German u boats did in World War 2 but the commies have used a phony virus pandemic instead of torpedoes. Commies gotta do what they do best - Destroy, cause poverty, pain, and death.

We had an Alaska cruise out of Seattle booked for Aug 2020 but it was cancelled. We were told to rebook the cruise for Aug 2021 but I guess not now.

I am hoping Trudeau keeps them home again this year. I am being mean here but let them enjoy their FULL measure of their dictator and socialism up there. I honestly like having my National and State Parks uncrowned. No complaints from me. My cousins’ whining isn’t missed one bit 😉. Maybe they will have more respect for Freedom.

This hurts! Cruise ships can't sail between US ports, so the Seattle cruises stop in Victoria BC, Canada.
