Is anyone asking us students for input about
reopening schools?

I’ll admit it: I’m lonely. I miss high school, I miss competing in track and cross country events, and I miss seeing my friends and teachers. Five days a week, I spend the better part of the day at home completely alone staring at my computer. (snip) But as the months passed by, we’ve learned that when schools follow masking and distancing rules, they are not a significant source of spread.
What’s bewildering to me is that our state leaders haven’t yet used this information to revise the guidelines for reopening schools and athletics.

Well, Adeline, allow me to explain it to you.
1) Sure it's "bewildering" because it's complete nonsense.
2) Your teachers' unions needed it to help defeat #OrangeManBad.
3) It worked (maybe), but then your teachers discovered they liked getting paid 100% of their salaries while staying home 100% of the time. so nothing's likely to change for a long, long time.

This student is learning at an early age NOT to trust politicians; once in office, some go insane with the power they yield. They work against the people, not for the people. Many vote the party line almost 100%, or close to it, which shows how little they use their brains.

I've spoken with several kids and parents with kids in this situation. My neighbors are from Portland and rabid Biden Harris supporters. Can't help but feel that it serves them right that it breaks their heart that their son will miss his Senior year of high school, but it still breaks my heart for him. It doesn't have to be this way and if Harris takes power, it's over for him.
Too many fearful psychos have too much power right now. Our Superintendent of Public Education here in Arizona, Kathy Hoffman, lives in perpetual fear of covid and bases every decision on her fear. But if we are honest, she has no clue about covid or even public health in general. We never expected her to. That's not why we elected her. Nonetheless, she holds the reins of power and will make the decision concerning schools re-opening.
The decisions she makes will be CYA only. Students, teachers and parents be damned.

Home schooling on steroids and obviously not everybody is up to it, many because of their work situation.
I play piano and my wife wanted me to teach her how to play. I hired her a professional piano teacher. Did that because I am a piano player, NOT a teacher. A teacher has a lesson plan and is organized and sensitive to his students' progress.
Pod schooling is a good concept. Small classes, real accomplished teachers, and NO DAM UNION.

Until the students start paying union dues no one cares about their opinion.

Adeline hasn't heard that a) asymptomatic people aren't spreading it and b) kids really aren't likely to find it fatal. In fact, seasonal flu is more likely to kill youngsters than the kungflu is.

Here in Tennessee, we have been having school since August 1. Most students opted to come to school. About 1/3 opted for virtual. After 7 weeks, the virtual kids started drifting back in when their parents found out that (GASP!) they were lying to them about completing and turning in their work! We expect to be about 95% after the Christmas break. Oh, and as for student illness with the COVID, maybe 2 out of our school's population of 400. We have had 6-7 adults contract it. All of them survived and came back to work - eagerly.

Well, Adeline, why don’t you ask the teachers’ unions? According to them, opening schools is sexist, racist and misogynist.

This student is apparently smart and perceptive. She's just realizing that something is 'off' about the decisions being made that do not actually benefit the people (students) that everyone pretends they care about. While there is some risk to reopening schools, the risk is miniscule. At age 18 you're more likely to be hit be an asteroid or meteorite than die of COVID.

Dear Adeline, You are too young to vote, and likely don't pay much in taxes. So your opinions, needs and desires are unimportant. The sooner you learn that Washington State is the easternmost province of Red China, the better.

Have to protect all those fat diabetic teachers don't you know. Sure, they haven't taken good care of themselves for decades but they know you going to class is gonna kill them.
Honest opinion here. Considering most of the folks under 60 dying of this stuff are fat as mud and have comorbitidies out the ying yang, one might assume they really didn't think much about being healthy before all this mess started.

Problem 1, you live in Seattle. Problem 2, school teachers all across the country have found a way to become premium-level welfare recipients and that is going to be a tough nut to crack. Problem 3, you are not yet age 18 so you can't get the hell out of there yet.

Excellent choice, #4. As a general rule it's not good to teach your wife anything, especially skills that involve firearms. They question your every instruction just as they do with everything else in your life. It could be dangerous and it seldom turns out successful.

I have two college age kids, and both are absolutely miserable with the current situation. They are both planning on laying out next semester in hopes that sanity will return to the school scene by next fall.
Perhaps when these universities lose enough students they will join the growing chorus of those of us saying "enough already!!"

I have to college age kids. Both are miserable with this on-line garbage and feel cheated out of a big part of going off to school in that they have no social life, no extracurricular activities, etc. Both hate online courses.
Both are planning to skip next semester, hoping that some semblance of sanity and normalcy will return by fall.
