President Biden on Friday suggested he would be open to waiting until next month to begin the Senate impeachment trial of former President Trump, reasoning it would allow more time to get his own administration "up and running."Biden said he had not seen the specifics of a proposal from Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) to begin the trial in February, but "the more time we have to get up and running and meet these crises, the better.""I do think that having some time to get our administration up and running — I want to thank the Senate for passing out our secretary of Defense,

They need more time for the migrants to get to the Southern border. All of the news media will be covering the Military killing Americans trying to protect the border. No will will be covering the kabuki kangaroo impeachment trial by then.

There are 74-75 million of us to whom the Constitution means something. I would suggest Schumer, Pelosi might want to read it. I'm pretty sure the Constitution doesn't mean much to them . . . that is until it's convenient for them.

So they impeach Donald Trump and remove him from what office exactly? His home office? The office at one of his hotels?
I'm just confused. He is a private citizen the last I checked. How do you impeach a private citizen?
But, hey, I guess our country is doing so fabulous that Congress doesn't have anything else to spend our tax dollars and time on. We should be thankful for that at least (/sarcasm off!!!!)

The obvious purpose of this is to prevent Trump from holding any future office. If enough people want him to represent them, it is wholly undemocratic to prevent the people from having a choice. Since Trump received substantially more real votes from real citizens than did Biden, going through with this trial is especially egregious and should catalyze the people to discard everyone who participated in this travesty. The definition of discard is TDB.

Where in the Constitution does it authorize the President - past or present - to have a say in the conduct of impeachment? Dictatorship, anyone?

#14: Thanks. You asked my question. Far from being a lawyer, much less a Constitutional expert, I don't recall in my reading of that document, that a seated (no matter how illegally) president has any "standing"to even suggest a schedule for an illegal, unconstitutional, kangaroo court against a former President.
P DJT's attorney--should the senate be so foolish as to actually convene a trial--should introduce a "laughter defense". Convening a trial court against a civilian, in a matter that is protected by the 1st Amendment, is laughable.
"Let's all go home, or to lunch." The lawyer should say, as he picks up his papers and leaves Chuckie with his mouth agape.

No, let's just get this farce over with. Biden has no business intervening, except to play a Dubya-lite "Uniter".
This is easily disposed of: Mitch withholds any Republican participation. No senators to sit as jurors; no Members of Congress to appear as defense managers. Chief Justice Eaarl Warren Roberts declares the proceedings unconstitutional and refuses to preside. PDT simply ignores the circus, no tweets or bombast - no comment.
If the Republicans do anything it will be the end of the party. We've already seen the UNIPARTY betrayal of Trump once, Mitch. We know your game.

It’s bizarre but not surprising that no editor at The Hill caught the writer’s egregious error of accepting that a president should have any say in an impeachment. They probably have never heard of the separation of powers and think the Constitution’s only function is to support the right to abortions and same-sex marriage (but not guns).

What I heard was that Roberts will not preside at this circus and the chief justice of the SC is required to preside (at an impeachment of a president), so it will not happen--unless the dims believe Trump is still president. Maybe the Dims will want to impeach Roberts then.

I think Dems are finding it difficult to keep up with their lies/election theft... my question is, Why are they even talking about the next election. They have ruled out 'elections' with their voting machines and myriad other fraud. Unless the machines are confiscated and destroyed and counting is made transparent, we are now just another banana republic.

This is nothing more than trying to teach all of us a lesson. Basically, our elected leaders have dropped the mask of doing the will of the people and have decided that it is now time to take control as Trump was getting too out of hand and giving away their game. Like Lenin's purge in 1922 this is where we are heading. The first thing Stalin did upon gaining power was to hunt down Trotsky and have him killed.
Our brilliant Founding Fathers knew this could happen some day which is why they tied the hands of the Senate and the House by preventing them from putting a civilian on trial! They knew what the government could do (a la the king) and they stopped it. Congress cannot issue a bill of retainer or try any one except an elected official.
Trump should immediately go to Federal court and sue Congress for harassment and get a restraining order from one of his judges! Force their hand. Make them justify how they can violate the Constitution. Literally make a Federal case out of it. Or he will just be the first! Next up: Cruz, Josh Hollings, Lee Zeldin, Trump's cabinet, his staff, his family, ... then us!

Looks like the crooked hillary focus groups have told DC that they need a visual for a longer period of time....to take the heat off the election results... a trial will bring out the ugly truth... President Trump's lawyers should demand a speedy trial...dragging the trial out only helps the fake media... they are in a panic as Newsmax explodes with new viewers and CNN is tanking...Gregg Kelly of Newsmax has a book club reading President Trump's books "The Art of the Deal...The Art of the Comeback"...I'm enjoying every page...Never give up....President Trump is so smart... he's staying out of the limelight and the fake news is in a panic... all they can report on is DC cookies from the First Lady of DC....

The Democrats want to drag this farce out as long as possible. Expect additional delays. The purpose is to smear Trump, and that will never come to an end. McConnell, McCarthy, and Cheney are all going to hades, and the Republican voters are going to leave. The Republican leadership has betrayed its constituency in the worst backstabbing in the history of backstabbing. There is going to be a very strong backlash.

Bring it on. I want to see Trump speak for hours and hours in his own defense. I want to see him name names, and cite the facts and figures as only he can. I want him to call out the sniveling cowards, bootlicks, liars, and thieving criminals in both parties. It would be gloriously historic.
And then they will convict Trump in boiling anger and umbrage. Next stop will be SCOTUS, which will deal with this unconstitutional bill of attainder. It will be even better if coward Roberts has to preside over the Senate spectacle. Bring it on.
