A trauma surgeon says X-rays from her COVID-19 patients often come back with scarring and that they “look worse than any type of terrible smoker’s lung.”
Dr. Brittany Bankhead-Kendall, an assistant professor of surgery with Texas Tech University, recently tweeted, “I don’t know who needs to hear this, but ‘post-Covid’ lungs look worse than ANY type of terrible smoker’s lungs we’ve ever seen.”(Snip)Bankhead-Kendall has treated thousands of symptomatic and asymptotic COVID-19 patients since March, when the pandemic started to rage across the country.
People with severe symptoms always show a severe chest X-ray, Bankhead-Kendall told the news outlet. People who are asymptotic show severe X-rays about 70 to 80 percent

I've had Covid. I have the positive test results to prove it. I never had a cough or chest congestion. No fever either. I had sneezing, drippy nose, headache, NO sense of smell or taste (gone like you turned a light switch off, that was weird!!), fatigue, heart palpitations a few times. It did hang on for 2 weeks. I guess I might have some lung damage. Time will tell but to be honest, I have had sinus infections and definitely had flus that were far worse overall.
I'm sure people with pre-existing lung issues, even exercise induced asthma, should be wary but many of the symptoms that have been most publicized, no one in our family had and we all had the crappy Covid.

There's only a few things that can eliminate scarring inside your body. The most effective is a cheap supplement called Serrapeptase, which must be taken on an empty stomach. Will it work for Covid-damaged lungs? Maybe.

I have been on home quarantine the last 10 days after testing positive. I never had any breathing problems. A steady cough, and very tired, but more of an inconvenience than every causing me fear.
I have checked my oxygen levels daily, and they never went down to any degree. I am usually at 98, and it averaged 96-97 for a couple of days. But it has been back to 98-99 the last few days. I was also x-rayed after the first week, and the doctor saw no sign of problems with my lungs (just as he expected).
According to my doctor, 98% of the cases he has seen have been what I have had or less. So I am calling total BS on this story. Sure, if you had serious lung problems going in, I'm sure the Covid did make it worse. But I call total and absolute BS on "People who are asymptotic show severe X-rays about 70 to 80 percent of the time. " Unless we Texans are just super men and women!!!!!

If individuals have lungs as described in the article how can they be called asymptomatic? Significant shortness of breath is not a symptom?

I’m a doc, and I call BS on Dr. Hyphen’s tweeted opinion. There are no pathology studies on asymptomatic patients, unless you somehow have a bunch of people volunteering for lung biopsies.
Crazy how lazy modern journalists are, writing stories based on “tweets.”

Why does a trauma surgeon in Lubbock see so many lungs in the first place?

I have my doubts about Dr. Brittany Bankhead-Kendall's assertion. Why would a trauma surgeon be treating asymptotic patients?

She's just the one that responded to the Craig's List add for a mouthpiece. This strikes me as the Evil Left saying: people aren't terrified enough; if we can just get that back for 6 more months, we'll be the Peoples' Republic of Former USA.

The virus has been here for a year. This is the first time anyone took a chest xray?

Spousal Unit Prime is certainly symptomatic, and has been hospitalized a couple times for it now. Currently she is in rehab learning to walk. Her lungs were damaged as multiple MRIs showed. The latest show a great deal of healing. Heck I probably have more scarring from warzone work decades ago.

Thanks to the posters who voiced their doubts about the veracity of this article’s claims. I, too, have my doubts. I’ve known and worked with a great many doctors over the years. They simply don’t speak in those over-the-top, doomsday scenario terms. The language used in the article sounds remarkably like a leftist agenda pusher.

Two friends had the crud. Both thought they had sinus problems until they tested positive. One only lost taste and smell, one was very ill, slept a lot and was very tired. I'm not a doctor but I know NO ONE who has had the test that didn't test positive and I'm wondering if the tests aren't compromised with the germs for whatever reason. I had sinus problems at the beginning of winter, as I do every year, was not running a temp. Had to quarantine at Christmas from family as they were told you could have the crud without having a temp.

#14, the rumor in eastern KS is that if you go to a Kansas state run testing location your test WILL be positive because our criminal governor wants a lot of "cases" to continue her reign of terror and error. If you want to actually know if you have the disease, go to a Walmart or other drugstore that has a "Minute Clinic" or similar, and you can apparently get a fair test.

Even the asymptomatic patients’ chest X-rays shows these bad lungs. I once saw the lungs removed from a cadavar - a former smoker - in a university medical school anatomy lab. Shriveled, dark in color, hard and leathery. Tough breathing with lungs like that.
