Rush Limbaugh turns 70 years old —
‘I wasn’t expected to make it to October’

Right-wing pundit Rush Limbaugh turned 70 years old Tuesday — a landmark he wasn’t expecting to see. While hitting seven-o is a big birthday for anyone, Limbaugh said almost a year ago that he had been diagnosed with advanced lung cancer. Shortly before Christmas, an emotional Limbaugh said he was grateful to be outliving his doctors’ prognosis. “I wasn’t expected to make it to October and then to November and then to December and yet here I am,” Limbaugh told listeners. A column in his hometown publication the Southeast Missourian praised Limbaugh, a Cape Girardeau native, as “the first to develop a prominent place for conservatives in media”

I "found" Rush in 1991; was at Gettysburg National Military Park on a visit. Stopped to rest, turned the car radio on at top of the hour for news. . . and five minutes later heard this booming voice that articulated EXACTLY what I had been thinking all my life. The combination of being at a. critical location in American history and listening to Rush talk about America crystallized everything I have ever thought about politics. Since that day, I rarely have missed the first hour of his show..

I remember the first time I became a Ditto Head. I was at my first shore duty station at the Alameda Naval Air Station in the Bay Area of California. My First Class Petty Officer was listening to this guy who had a cool radio voice and was quite funny. With lines like “lovable little fuzz ball” and “half my brain tided behind my back just to make it fair. Well I asked him who the guy was and he said he’s Rush Limbaugh and our new President is in for it. That was in 1993 and we all know who was President back then. I’ve been a fan of Rush’s ever since. He’s been one of our greatest Conservative warriors and I wish him a Happy Birthday and I pray that he’s able to soldier on his EIB Network for years to come.

Poll: Strong majority of GOP voters see

A strong majority of GOP voters view themselves as Republicans rather than devotees of President Trump's Make America Great Again, or "MAGA," movement, according to a new Just the News Daily Poll with Scott Rasmussen. Among the Republican voters, 74% consider themselves "more of a Republican," while 19% see themselves as "part of MAGA nation." The numbers could reflect the fallout from last week's Capitol riot, which has been broadly characterized as being led by Trump's MAGA devotees, a key part of the president's base, helped him become president in 2016. However, there is no similar, previous polls to compared percentages.

I am a huge fan of classic Disney fare. Over the years, though, I've come to see Disney as a truly toxic company. The only reason I won't boycott it over its announcement that it will not fund politicians who challenged the Electoral College certification is that I'm already boycotting it. Before I get to Disney's current fall (even farther) from grace, let me explain why I've been boycotting Disney for years. It was actually a hard habit to break. As is true for every American, I grew up on Disney fare. The early works are utterly enchanting.

Politico is facing backlash on Thursday—both internally and externally—for handing over the keys to its signature news product for the day to Ben Shapiro, an oft-incendiary right-wing commentator. “We published a piece by a very prominent writer, provocateur, and podcaster. We stand by every word in there, it was very closely edited,” the outlet’s top editor Matt Kaminski said as part of his response to staffers during a Thursday meeting. At another point, the top editor added: “Mischief making has always been a part of Politico’s secret sauce. We were an upstart. Some of that sensibility is always going to be a part of this publication.”

The deadly riot at the U.S. Capitol bore the markings of an organized operation planned well in advance of the Jan. 6 joint session of Congress.
