Louisiana Rep.-elect Luke Letlow died on Tuesday, more than a week after he was hospitalized with the coronavirus, according to a report. State Senator Brian Kavanagh wrote the COVID-19 Emergency Eviction and Foreclosure Prevention Act. “We estimate that there are 4.1 million renter households in New York and we think about a quarter of them, maybe 20 or 25% of them, are behind on their rent,” Senator Kavanagh told PIX11 News. The U.S. government on Tuesday announced new recommended dietary guidelines that reportedly did not make any changes to the amount of sugar and alcohol consumption recommended for Americans, despite a scientific panel advising otherwise.
The Wall Street Journal reports that the new guidelines take some of the committee’s recommendations into account, including not allowing children under the age of two to consume any added sugar at all.

The House of Representatives voted on two bills Monday night with many Republicans breaking with President Donald Trump, leaving only a handful of GOP lawmakers who stood by the president on both votes.The first vote was to increase the coronavirus relief payments from the latest COVID-19 relief aid package from $600 to $2,000, something Trump supports. In a 275-134 vote, the House passed the bill, which will now head to the Senate. The House needed a two-thirds of majority for it to pass.The second vote was to override Trump’s veto of the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), making it the first time the House has overridden a veto from Trump.
On January 6, Congress will meet in a joint session to validate the 51 slates of presidential electors chosen during the December 14 meeting of the Electoral College and certified by the 50 states and the District of Columbia. This is no mere formality. Until this venerable ceremony is complete, the recent presidential election has no official winner. If one congressman and one senator jointly object in writing to any of the 51 slates of electors, the process grinds to a halt until the challenge is resolved. In other words, Joe Biden’s Electoral College majority is quite literally meaningless until confirmed by January’s joint session of Congress.

Franklin Graham called on Americans to pray for President Donald Trump and for our nation, that God will spare us "from the evil that is before us." Minnesotans have rallied to help nonprofits during the pandemic, but across many organizations, most of those volunteers are white. A statewide organization is trying to change that with new research calling attention to disparities in volunteerism.
