Republican Senator Pat Toomey said Sunday morning Donald Trump will be remembered as a president of 'chaos and misery and erratic behavior' if he doesn't sign the $900 billion coronavirus relief bill by midnight. 'You don't always get what you want, even if you are the president of the United States,' the Pennsylvania senator said in reference to Trump's demand for $2,000 stimulus checks. Toomey said during his interview with 'Fox News Sunday' that he opposes the president's proposed increase of direct checks to $2,000 from the $600 price tag already included in the most recent bipartisan coronavirus relief legislation.

Comments:

Imagine if we had more than one political party in this country. Here, the Principled Republican objects not to the obscene pork and foreign aid in the bill, but to the fact that some people receiving $2000 might not have been affected by the Rona.

As usual, this congressdope is painfully ignorant of the constitutional structure he works in. If you pass a bill, the President can veto it for any reason he likes, including no reason at all. At that point, it is *your* job, Tooms, to drum up enough support in the legislature to override that veto. And if you can't? That proves the veto was appropriate because there is significant disagreement in your own branch over whether the bill is good! The thing is, the veto should be a common occurrence. The Executive branch is not a rubber stamp on whatever Congress churns out. The veto is not a tantrum (whining about a President threatening to veto an abomination of a bill, on the other hand, is); it's the constitutional check on irresponsible legislators like Toomey.

President Trump will be remembered for having built the powerful economy prior to covid, and this is why we have not descended into total ruin. He will be remembered, when the lies have been dispelled, as the one who steered the country through the pandemic, refusing to stir panic and despair (and fighting back against Dems who demand shut-downs). He will be remembered for having the will to push for a vaccine/s to be produced in "warp speed" and it happened, because he knows how to manage bureaucracies, and the willingness to cut miles and miles of red tape. He will be remembered for having the strength of will and a sturdy spine to endure through the vicious, endless attacks, false accusations, tormented by special counsels and investigations and a truly stupid impeachment circus. People like Toomey will be remembered (if at all, by others than his family) as petty, foolish, mean-spirited, trembling and unstable and afraid to stand up for the people, as has President Trump.

Democratic Rep. Steve Cohen (TN) expressed concern Monday that the National Guard troops responsible for protecting Washington, D.C. on Inauguration Day could constitute a threat because they included too many “white males” who voted for President Donald Trump. “The guard is 90-some-odd percent, I believe, male,” Cohen said in a Monday interview with CNN’s Jim Sciutto. “Only about 20 percent of white males voted for Biden. You’ve got to figure that in the guard, which is predominantly more conservative — I see that on my social media, and we know it. They’re probably not more than 25 percent of the

U.S. President-elect Joe Biden is planning to cancel the permit for the $9 billion Keystone XL pipeline project as one of his first acts in office, and perhaps as soon as his first day, according to a source familiar with his thinking. President Donald Trump had made building the pipeline a central promise of his presidential campaign. Biden, who will be inaugurated on Wednesday, was vice president in the Obama administration when it rejected the project as contrary to its efforts to combat climate change.(Snip)The project, which would move oil from the province of Alberta to Nebraska, had been slowed by legal issues

Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) won’t be up for re-election until 2024, but she has seemingly already filed paperwork indicating she might run again. The 87-year-old U.S. Democrat from California filed the initial re-election paperwork with the Federal Election Commission last week, L.A. Magazine reported. A Feinstein rep reached out to L.A. Magazine to clarify what the FEC filings allegedly mean. “To be clear, Senator Feinstein has had a campaign committee since she took office, as all senators must. In order to keep this account active, the senator has to maintain filings with the FEC. Yesterday’s filings merely reflected an updated address,”

The last time I checked, this was the USA. A free country. A country where, when mobs of thugs were destroying Minneapolis, Portland, Kenosha, and other cities, the media reacted in horror at the suggestion that a few National Guard troops might help return calm for the residents trying to live peacefully in their homes, do business as much as possible in the circumstances, and stay afloat during a pandemic. As Portland’s Mayor Ted Wheeler said when offered federal troops to quell the violence, “This is not the America we want.” The very idea is repugnant! Now, I am seeing pictures of Washington DC preparing to inaugurate Biden

The abrupt switch from media attack dogs to stenographers for power was always going to be jarring. But get ready for “democracy dying in darkness” giving way to “everything is swell.” CBS This Morning on Monday cheered on Kamala Harris by talking to the Vice President-elect's former sorority sisters. The full-on puff piece featured Gayle King insisting that “so many” are so proud of the Democrat. Of course, no mention was made of just how liberal Harris is. Instead, reporter Michelle Miller asked questions like this: “How are you going to support your line sister as she becomes vice president?”

U.S. defense officials say they are worried about an insider attack or other threat from service members involved in securing President-elect Joe Biden’s inauguration, prompting the FBI to vet all of the 25,000 National Guard troops coming into Washington for the event. The massive undertaking reflects the extraordinary security concerns that have gripped Washington following the deadly Jan. 6 insurrection at the U.S. Capitol by pro-Trump rioters. And it underscores fears that some of the very people assigned to protect the city over the next several days could present a threat to the incoming president and other VIPs in attendance.
