The chairman of the Texas Democratic Party said the red wave that moved through South Texas’s Starr County was due to three issues critical to Latino voters in that area: pandemic shutdowns, oil industry jobs, and abortion. According to a report at the Wall Street Journal (WSJ) Sunday, the idea that Starr County would have 8,224 residents vote for President Donald Trump is mindboggling. In 2016, Democrat Hillary Clinton held a 60-point margin over Trump in Starr County, but, in 2020, Joe Biden barely slid over the edge to beat Trump by five points, making the county the largest swing to Trump of any in the United States.

But yesterday the NY Times pointed out that Democrats are actually in danger of losing three seats in California that they managed to flip in 2018. The margins in these races are still razor thin but it looks like a good bet that at least two of the three are about to flip back to the GOP: Three Democrats who flipped GOP-held seats in the blue wave, Reps. Joe Biden is not “president-elect.” Joe Biden has not won the 2020 presidential election. Donald Trump’s re-election has not been defeated. Right now, Joe Biden is merely “ahead in the count” of enough states to win the presidency. But this is a contested election and we have a long way to go, probably more than a month and a plethora of legal filings, before a winner is declared. Per our own Constitution, there is only one institution legally entitled to declare a winner in a presidential election, and that’s the Electoral College, which does not meet until the middle of December.

Over the weekend, I reviewed Joe Biden’s victory speech and pointed out his claim that he was going to roll up his sleeves and get to work on getting the pandemic “under control.” What was missing from his remarks was any hint about what he was going to do to accomplish this. I somehow doubt Uncle Joe reads Hot Air, but he came out yesterday with an attempt to answer the questions I raised. He set forth a few of the steps he planned to take in terms of the virus, at least in general terms, along with naming some people he planned to assign to his pandemic “working group.”

Democrats insist they will win both seats and tie the Senate 50-50 (with Vice President Kamala Harris breaking the tie). But history is not on their side. Republicans have won every statewide runoff vote in state history, an unbroken string that started in 1992. It’s not crazy to say this, despite the gaslighting from much of the media. Basically, the election is down to roughly 120,000 votes of almost 150 million votes cast. That’s 0.08 percent, a tiny margin by anyone’s reckoning. Recounts have been ordered. The Trump campaign is challenging hundreds of thousands of votes in the courts.

It was Rutherford Hayes against Samuel Tilden. Nobody had enough Electoral College votes, so it went to Congress to decide. (snip) State legislatures in six or seven or more states, run by Republicans, have a choice (snip) If even one state or two fail to certify, the election goes to Congress.

Joe Biden may have wound up winning a stay in the White House, but we continue to see signs of fallout further down the ballot indicating that he may have been an outlier. The progressive agenda and some of its more vocal Democratic supporters took a beating around the country this week. The latest example comes to us from the Big Sky State. There was a referendum on the ballot in Montana that would prevent local and municipal governments from passing laws restricting gun ownership and portability beyond the limits of state and federal gun control laws already in place.

It’s unclear if the point on the 2020 election timeline has been reached that allows for serious discussion of legal challenges around what the Trump camp is suggesting looks like widespread fraud. Too early and the newly gracious and delicate media will revert back to hurling invective, painting those giving such insane notions quarter as mad and pathologically incapable of just letting a legitimate loss go.
