On Saturday, President Donald Trump nominated Amy Coney Barrett, a law professor at Notre Dame and a judge at the 7th Circuit Court of Appeals, to the Supreme Court seat vacated by the death of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg. Trump commemorated Ginsburg before introducing Barrett. “Today it is my honor to nominate one of our nation’s most gifted and brilliant minds to the Supreme Court,” Trump said as he announced Amy Coney Barrett. “Judge Barrett is a graduate of Rhodes College and the University of Notre Dame Law School,” he noted. She graduated the first in her class and edited the school’s law review. Barrett clerked for the late Supreme Court

The President's nomination announcement was beautiful and well-spoken. Judge Barrett presented and demonstrated poise, love of the Constitution, and we got a great glimpse of her as not only a mother, but, as a Juris Doctor. A fine individual in my view. The President's and Judge Barrett's respects to Justice Ginsburg were sincere and appropriate. Judge Barrett is a keeper. US Senate and Leader McConnell, please proceed and confirm at the earliest. Justice Barrett and the SCOTUS will have important work to do after November 3rd.

So many people to thank.. of course Harry Reid for abolishing the filibuster, the democrat party for that travesty called the Kavanaugh hearings which added 2 seats to the republican majority (meaning that Murkowski, Collins and Romney were not needed), Mitch McConnell for being Mitch.. and RBG herself for not bowing out when asked by Obama in 2013.

It just occurred to me that this may possibly cause the Dems to reconsider some of their "throw it to the courts" plans. If they know that there are going to be five sane, rational judges (sad sack Roberts excepted) they may be less likely to want this election pushed into the courts. This Silver Lining may be a Golden Lining.

Judge Barrett was so impressive. Her remarks were pitch perfect and I believe the left is going to have to find a very dark path to go down in order to trash her and they will, of course, because it is who they are. She is a lovely woman and her credentials are without question. While she was speaking, I could not help but think of what she will face from the democrat party. God bless her and her family. Give them the strength to weather the storm that is bearing down on them. The party of destruction is angry, without conscience, and determined to do whatever it takes to keep her off the Court. I pray that all their efforts will be in vain and she will be confirmed as soon as possible.

What a beautiful soul. I am so impressed with the poise of her children. And it sounds like she has an amazing husband. No wonder the feminazi's are so up in arms - how to explain a traditionalist, conservative woman whose equally traditionalist, conservative husband has supported her high professional aims. Most of us can't imagine the depths of depravity to which the left can sink to destroy a person of character. So I will add my prayers to those of yours for spiritual, physical and emotional protection for Justice Barrett and her family. Ramona (the Pest)

The only answer Amy Coney Barrett should give if questioned about her Religion. The 1st Amendment. Congress shall make no law respecting a religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof. Therefore Senator------- , with all due respect, I will not address your attempt to deny my Constructional right by a de facto attempt to prohibit, or malign my "free exercise thereof.

Like many other liberals, I’m devastated by Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s death, which opened the way for President Donald Trump to nominate a third Supreme Court justice in his first term. And I’m revolted by the hypocrisy of Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell’s willingness to confirm Trump’s nominee after refusing to even allow a vote on Judge Merrick Garland. Yet these political judgments need to be distinguished from a separate question: what to think about Judge Amy Coney Barrett, whom Trump has told associates he plans to nominate. And here I want to be extremely clear. Regardless of what you or I may think of the circumstances

The Justice Department sent a letter to a Pennsylvania county on Thursday, ordering it to change its practices after multiple military ballots were found discarded. The issue surfaced earlier in the day when the DOJ announced that it had recovered a small number of discarded ballots. While the Justice Department would not say where they had found the ballots, they did say there were nine recovered -- seven of which were cast for President Trump, while the other two were sealed by Luzerne County before the FBI recovered them, In his letter to Luzerne County officials, U.S. attorney David Freed indicated that additional ballot materials were found in a dumpster.

The “primary sub-source” for the Steele dossier was suspected of being a possible Russian agent and a “threat to national security,” according to newly declassified FBI documents. Senator Lindsey Graham (R., S.C.) announced the revelations on Thursday after the Justice Department declassified a footnote of the DOJ Inspector General Report on FISA abuse by the FBI. That report focused on efforts by FBI agents to obtain FISA warrants to surveil Trump-campaign adviser Carter Page, and concluded that two applications to renew such warrants were not valid because of “material misstatements and omission” of evidence. The smarter Democrats realize that not only do Republicans have the votes to confirm a replacement for Ruth Bader Ginsburg, but that hearings on the confirmation threaten to be a disaster for them. Expressing the bloodlust they felt at the prospect of Brett Kavanaugh being confirmed may have provided momentary emotional satisfaction, but 2018 Republican gains in the Senate were painful and lasting. But the abortion-supporters whom the party depends on for energy and funding want the hearings to savage whomever the president nominates. Therein lies grave peril for the party

As the Senate prepares for yet another brutal Supreme Court nomination fight, one particularly sensitive issue is creating apprehension among Democrats: what to do with 87-year-old Sen. Dianne Feinstein, the ranking member of the Judiciary Committee. Feinstein, the oldest member of the Senate, is widely respected by senators in both parties, but she has noticeably slowed in recent years. Interviews with more than a dozen Democratic senators and aides show widespread concern over whether the California Democrat is capable of leading the aggressive effort Democrats need against whoever President Donald Trump picks to replace the late Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg.

Newsom said that his new executive order would “eliminate” the sales of “internal combustion engines” and move to electric vehicles — a move that he said would create jobs and allow California to “dominate” the market, and address climate change. Those who currently own gas-powered vehicles would still be allowed to operate them and to sell them on the used market.
