A Texas city's annual Rotary Duck Derby, delayed for months due to the COVID-19 pandemic, went forward without some of the usual fanfare, but with a Guinness World Record for lining up rubber ducks. The City of Graham's 3rd Annual Rotary Duck Derby, which was originally scheduled for April, took place at the city's Downtown Square. Residents could sponsor a duck in the race for $5 or 24 ducks for $100, with the proceeds being donated by the Graham Rotary Club to a variety of community projects.

This is funny. For the past few years, a large group of us get together at a friend who lives on a river, we put up our money and pick a numbered rubber duck from a bucket. The numbered ducks are carried upstream and released. We then wait downstream with adult beverages, until the ducks arrive. The 1st duck pulled from the river is the winner and who ever has that number, takes home the cash. I like the idea of donating a part of the money to a good cause. We've had enough hurricane damage to the state this season, that finding a place to send it won't be a problem.

Narrative, meet thy match: Actuality. On Wednesday, Robert Johnson appeared to indicate he’ll be sticking with Donald Trump when November comes around. During an interview on CNBC’s The Squawk Box, the mogul discussed devils: “As a businessman, I will take the devil I know over the devil I don’t know any time of the week. And that seems to be what business people are confronting today.”  (Snip) Of course, I can’t speak for the man; but I’d assume he wouldn’t be saying the above if he were especially unhappy with Trump’s job. He may not call it an endorsement, but it’s surely a favorable statement.  Correction*

Community health advocates and some aldermen called Tuesday for creation of a crisis response team that excludes police officers to help people experiencing mental health emergencies. “Currently, the city’s response to crises has been done and managed exclusively by the city’s police department,” said Arturo Carrillo, lead organizer for the Collaborative for Community Wellness, a citywide coalition of community groups. “As a result, the largest mental health provider in this city and this country is Cook County Jail.” Instead, Carrillo, a licensed social worker, said the crisis response team would be staffed by paramedics and social workers and operated by the Chicago Department of Public Health.

House Republicans are pushing to seal the deal on a host of policies to withdraw vital American industries from China in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic. The GOP-chartered House China Task Force issued a report on Wednesday that calls in part for Congress to enact the 2021 National Defense Authorization Act's bevy of policies. Those policies, many of which have already passed the House, aim at reducing U.S. supply chain dependency on the Chinese Communist regime, which the report labeled a risk to American safety and prosperity. With 24 hours having passed since the first presidential debate, it’s becoming clear that Trump won in a big way. It wasn’t an apparent victory, but it was a real one: He showed his base and ordinary Americans that he will always fight while forcing Biden to disavow both his hard-left base and the last of the old-fashioned Democrats who still support him Don’t pay too much attention to the pessimistic pundits. The worriers worried, the haters hated, the ambivalent were ambivalent, the cheerleaders cheered. Personality may not be destiny, but it determines post-debates reviews.
