Clouds of mosquitoes are swarming and fatally draining livestock of their blood in southwest Louisiana, according to a Thursday report.
Louisiana-based veterinarian Craig Fontenot said that 300 to 500 cattle have been lost to killer mosquito clouds in a five-parish area following Hurricane Laura, according to the Associated Press.
The bugs attack in large swarms, drawing blood until the targeted animal becomes exhausted and bleeds out under their skin.
“They’re vicious little suckers,” Fontenot said, the AP reported. The mosquitoes have so far claimed the lives of both horses and cows. Fontenot said a deer rancher in the area lost around 30 of his livestock, according to the AP.

Sounds similar to a swarm of democrats rising from the swamp to raise taxes on everyone and everything and suck blood money out of all living things.

Rachel Carson was one of the first envirowhackos, whose book, “Silent Spring,” inspired the banning of DDT worldwide. Billions of deadly pests, not just mosquitoes, are her beneficiaries.

I don't think this is a new problem. I remember standing on the levee in New Orleans late one evening when mosquitos the size of dragonflies (ok, maybe I exaggerate) landed all over me. Biggest bugs I ever saw.

Southeast Texas has also been suffering from a mosquito outbreak. More people will be lost to cleaning large trees from their yards in 95 degree heat than to any virus. Amazing to see 2 foot diameter pine tree trunks snapped in two. by the winds.

Story sounds suspicious to me. Ranchers routinely spray cattle for flies and mosquitoes. Years ago a coworker who grew up in the Houston, TX area said his grandfather used to tell of wrapping a handkerchief around the horse's muzzle to prevent the excessive inhalation of mosquitoes. The most mosquitoes I've ever seen was when I was in Alaska.

Years ago, I read an article about the construction of the Panama Canal. It was very common to add a couple of quarts of oil to a large swamp ( by its very nature , there is no current to spread it very far) but the oil will completely cover the surface with a nearly invisible layer of oil that kills the larvae . The sun will evaporate the oil before it damages much , if any , of the plant life. There was more to the story by I'm too lazy to look it up.

#8. ranchers and farmers routinely put a couple of drops of machine oil on the surface of water troughs during mosquito season. It's not enough oil to harm an animal, but it kills mosquito larvae.

The state bird here in Minnesota! However we freeze their little peckers off in the winter which keeps their numbers in check. Black flies in the northern forests are really awful!!!

The EPA have approved plans to release genetically modified male mosquitoes in the Florida Keys and I think Harris County, TX. British company Oxitec has produced and tested them. They claim a 95% reduction in female mosquitoes in parts of Brazil.
Sounded good until I found out Oxitec is funded by Gates Foundation. He will have figured an angle and I'd bet his spin machine is working overtime creating mosquito panic.

Do they have meds for livestock like they do for dogs? I placed meds on my dog's neck monthly & never had fleas or mosquitos.
