Authorities are investigating a Long Island bar that posted on Instagram that it was taking bets on whether Chicago or New York City would see more shootings over Labor Day weekend. The Cliffton, a bar in Patchogue, New York, shared photos of a paper grid hung in the bar with patrons placing bets on the number of shootings in the two cities, Newsday reported Tuesday. The winner would take home an unspecified cash prize. The betting is “not only sickening, but also appears illegal under the Alcoholic Beverage Control law," the State Liquor Authority said in a statement to the newspaper. The state's alcohol and beverage law prohibits

No, the betting isn't sickening, the leadership who permits this carnage to continue unabated is sickening.

Is this betting or protected political speech? Seems someone is protesting the way goobernment in these two cities operate when it comes to crime. That's 1st Amendment stuff. Once, cities tried to outlaw protected political speech by outlawing stiptease clubs. WOnder if these goes to the Supreme Joke of the United States under Chief Just-Us Roberts?

As long as the winner of the pool gets an unspecified prize, it is not illegal. The prize could be just bragging rights, for all the ABC knows.

this should definitely be an internet drinking game , or a fund raiser for some savvy soul . Not being cold , cavalier, just an observer of the left seeking to maim , destroy , even kill under the very least pretext .
Just saw a “ justice for floyd “ poster done like the obama red & green ones .. paid for by seiu . quelle surprise

I´m with #4.
This is in poor taste, I suppose, but the American people are being subjected to the ugliest kind of street thuggery every night, and sometimes a little gallows humor helps. Why is an investigation required here? Is bad taste now a crime? (Time to get rid of that Harvest Gold shag carpet in my living room. And the avocado washer and dryer. Best to get it done soon. Otherwise, the carpet police might fine me $10,000!!)

Freedom to make fun of morons is apparently not politically correct. I'd do better hanging with these guys than walk in the no-go areas of two once great cities.

Except they don't play the national anthem on Friday night so the Crips and Bloods can kneel down.

Chicago always has a higher number of shootings but NY has a higher kill ratio. Since the bet is not on deaths, I suspect this is sophisticated political satire.

ESPN started in inject political and social aspects into sports over a decade ago. This is just natural progression of that movement.
