John Brennan Was Put in a Perjury Trap

John Brennan’s long-time advisor Nick Shapiro put out a statement yesterday at the conclusion of Brennan’s eight-hour interview with John Durham and his investigators. It might all be true. All I have are opinions on the text and circumstances.(Snip)Since when has Brennan been shy about saying anything on Twitter? Why would Brennan go “third person” and have his thoughts about the interview expressed only in the words of someone else? The most obvious reason is the statements are not going to be exactly accurate. Running them through a third person builds in a level of “deniability” on Brennan’s part. Comments:

SWC tells readers when he is writing his opinions, his speculations. His opinions and speculations are worthy because he is experienced in the law - a retired 22 year federal prosecutor. He explains here why Brennan was interviewed at CIA headquarters in Virginia rather than the DoJ office in DC.

SWC explains why Shapiro spoke for Brennan in that statement. He also explains that there are only two categories: Targets or Witnesses and how those are handled. Witnesses can make themselves Targets. John Durham and his team did not come to the decision to interview Brennan over the course of eight hours for the purpose of “filling in the blanks” on “events that are under review.” The purpose of the interview was to get Brennan to confirm or deny information that others have provided up to this point about Brennan, and what he instructed others to do. John Brennan was placed into a perjury trap yesterday because he’s shown himself willing to perjure himself in the past in order to evade scrutiny. Yesterday, the ability to avoid the trap was completely within his control — all he had to do was tell the truth. For the most part, Durham’s investigators knew the truth. This article is well worth your time.

Brennan is not going to skate. He has told too many lies and done too many wrong things. He has made too many enemies. Compared to other, more powerful figures in this coup attempt, he is definitely under-the-bus material, maybe even Arkancide, if he has the goods on them. I'm sure he values the Second Amendment right now!

I must have missed some innuendos. Exactly what would Durham plan next? I hope it's a recommendation to Barr that Brennan be prosecuted instead of this BS of "nothing to really see here" non-prosecutions and that the court jurisdiction lands up anywhere but in DC.

People like John Brennan are not easy targets to prosecute, especially after they have had a lot of time to cover their butts, a process that is also called CYA. But on the other side of the coin, the Durham investigation has been ongoing for a longtime, and Brennan would not know what data and information that the investigation has uncovered, and otherwise verified, from entities and individuals, both foreign and domestic.

It seems to me that the perjury trap works the best at innocent, unsuspecting people. Remember Hillary testifying and repeating 'I can't recall', 'I don't remember'? If you know you did wrong and you want to avoid copping to it, you say stuff like that.

To answer the question posed in last Tuesday’s column, Yes, Kevin Clinesmith did plead guilty Wednesday. Sort of.Well, maybe it was a smidge better than “sort of.” After all, it did happen in a federal-district-court proceeding (Snip) And Judge James Boasberg did accept the plea after eliciting it in accordance with settled criminal-law rules. Sentencing is scheduled for December 10. So it’s official. But I’m sticking with “sort of.” If Clinesmith’s guilty plea is legally adequate, it is barely so. And neither a judge nor a prosecutor is required to accept an allocution sliced so fine. In “admitting” guilt, Clinesmith ended up taking the position that I hoped the judge,

FBI agents in 2015 sought authorization to surveil foreign government operatives who sought to influence Hillary Clinton, but ultimately settled for a defensive briefing given to lawyers for the Democratic presidential candidate, according to documents released on Sunday. A FISA order was not granted in the investigation. Instead, an FBI special agent provided a defensive briefing to Clinton’s personal lawyers in October 2015.
