Former Trump adviser Stephen Bannon and three other defendants were arrested on Thursday morning and charged with fraud by the U.S. attorney for the Southern District of New York.
Bannon, along with Brian Kolfage, Timothy Shea, and Andrew Badolato, were charged with defrauding hundreds of thousands of donors who contributed to “We Build the Wall,” an online crowdfunding campaign that has raised over $25 million in funds for a border wall between the U.S. and Mexico. “As alleged, the defendants defrauded hundreds of thousands of donors, capitalizing on their interest in funding a border wall to raise millions of dollars, under the false pretense that all of that money

Anyone who defrauds people of their money should have to answer for it. No double standards. On the other hand, this comes out of the southern district of New York.

And the US attorney for the Southern District of NY will be looking into the Clinton Foundation any day now...

If I were going to defraud people I’d be a little sneakier than that. Defrauding the We Build The Wall campaign would be a pretty high profile undertaking. At first glance this seems to be a rather fishy story about dubious charges from the usual suspects, all brought to us from a site that would be only too happy for it to be true. I’ll wait, thanks.

What do they have in the way of proof? At first glance, this smells more like persecution instead of prosecution. Another attack on Trump allies. Just before the election too! Queue the ads. They might be cleared, but it will be expensive and take a long time. Almost definitely, Trump will respond to this. The US attorney office for the Southern District of New York has been abusing its authority, and needs to be cleaned out. That's not going to happen any time soon.

We will see, but I will note the Democrats have the Republicans arrested and charged, but the Republicans do nothing for Joe and Hunter Biden, Bill and Hillary Clinton, Feinstein, Pelosi Inc. The Democrats will eventually have all the timid Republicans in jail.

I wish Donald Trump had never met Steve Bannon. That guy just exuded trouble. According to the indictment, the money was funneled through several shadow entities and funds were used for personal expenses.

However, there are obviously a lot of people in this world who aren't careful about where and to whom they donate money.

Since he is a known Trump booster he must be tarnished and brought down. Consider the timing and the prosecutors.
No idea whether the charges are true, but do you really think they are the basis for the indictment?

Maria Bartiromo frequently has Steve Bannon as a guest on her excellent Sunday Morning Futures program. She is one of ours and a pretty discerning person.

You got to remember that the prosecutors in New York who obtained this indictment also gave the Clintons a complete pass. A major Democrat dirty trick is to criminalize politics before an election by indicting Republicans before a big election and then dropping the charges after the election if the Republican looses the election. Remember the Democrats did that to former Senator Ted Stevens of Alaska, and that happened in the same Judge Sullivan’s Court who is now acting as judge and prosecutor of General Flynn.
Just because one of more people start a non-profit venture and put a lot of time into raising money for a cause does not mean that they cannot be paid. This article says that about twenty-five million dollars was raised by that non-profit, but does not say how much money actually went towards the private wall project. I would wait and see what happens in the end as just because a politically connected is indicted and arrested does not mean that the person is actually guilty of a crime.
No doubt this matter was timed to come out just before Biden gives his acceptance speech tonight, and is part of a big effort by the Democrats and their liberal media minions to project false guilt on President Trump. Watch Biden’s speech and see that happens this evening in that respect.

Do you really trust the SDNY at this point to pursue real justice and not some political agenda? It makes no sense for Steve Bannon to be involved in the crowdfunding site in any material way since he has enormous personal wealth and doesn't need to scam anyone. I would not trust any of the news stories that are coming out until we hear the rest of the story.
Bannon is public enemy #1 to the CCP and has been very effective in the Free Republic of China movement. There are serious power struggles occurring in Chine that threaten President Xi and it would not be unexpected that they would pull media and legal strings in this country to target Bannon.

Of course fraud should be punished, and Bannon et al might or might not be guilty. But this just reinforces our two tiered justice system. I'm not saying don't charge Bannon, but leftists are immune regardless of their crimes.

I watch Steve Bannon's War Room show on Newsmax. I can't imagine these charges. He's not a stupid man and does not need this money. To me this looks like a decoy and distraction for headlines to tie in president Trump's name to it right before the convention. Maria B is friends with Bannon and she will get to the truth.

Coming from Southern District of New York, who ignored the Clinton Foundation fraud for years, but found Dinesh D'Souza had over contributed to an election campaign, I suspect this is pure politics.
Fine, let's arrest AOC for illegal use of campaign funds

This is what infuriates me. Any Trump associate or former associate or some guy Trump talked to last week goes to the front of the express indictment lane while Barr and Durham must take a measured and sober evaluation of all factor including the context and tenor of the blah, blah, blah. Result: some guy who fabricated information for a spying warrant on a Presidential campaign gets to go to career counseling as a punishment.

That’s all I need to know.
Another railroading job by the Left wing commie cabal.
Now I know Bannon is innocent.

No existing charity, including United Way, Red Cross and the ASPCA, give even fifty percent of their take to the actual causes for which they collect. Administrative expenses are defined by the people who collect the cash and therein lies the problem. They work much like the government.

this is penny ante stuff.
Yet the Southern District has ignored complaints about the Biden clan, bigger grifters than Dollar Bill Clinton, his wife, Lady Lucifer, their ugly daughter and her crooked husband.

If you go to the "We Build The Wall" website they are quite transparent about what the donations go towards and the progress that has been made. Clearly an actual stretch of real wall has been built and contracts for additional construction exist. They also fund public education efforts to promote building the wall both private and public. They disclose their legal and executive compensation which is consistent with other 501c operations.
What appears to be happening is just what the IRS did to Tea Party organizations. The SDNY has a legal "opinion" that a proportion of funds are not being spent they way they "should" and have created a legal net to try to trap the very prominent Trump supporters like the veteran triple amputee Brian Kolfage, Steve Bannon, Kris Kobach, General Robert Spaulding, Tom Tancredo, Sheriff David Clarke, and Curt Shilling. This is a political prosecution just like they tried to pull on Rudy Giuliani by indicted Lev Parnas and trying to get him to dig up dirt on Rudy.

If he did the crime, let him serve the time. However, given where this is coming from, I have to wonder about their motive for doing this. I came to the conclusion after seeing a tweet from the WH today that these guys just might have done something bad. Trump was not interested in their efforts, and the part of the wall they wanted to fund was in a dodgy area. The bad thing is here, that Kris Kobach might have some problems himself after this, for he is legal counsel for Bannon's wall funding efforts.

There are many months between indictment and trial. This should be a publicly quiet time for the defense to get its ducks in a row. Bannon's case needs to be up to them to handle. Republicans should stay away from it, because he and his friends were not acting on behalf of the administration. Their position is rather somewhat like ex-military who hire out as contractors in a cause supported by the U.S. We cannot let Bannon's problem become our own during this election. Trump can get involved after the election if he thinks it is appropriate.
