Bice: Wisconsin Republicans help
Kanye West in his attempt

Who knew Wisconsin Republicans were such big fans of Kanye West? The rapper's campaign turned in a number of signatures on Tuesday in a bid to get on the November presidential ballot in Wisconsin. He is making similar attempts in Ohio, Arkansas and West Virginia. Reid Magney, spokesman for the state Elections Commission, said it could be several days before officials confirm that West has enough valid signatures to appear on the ballot as an independent candidate representing the Birthday Party.

Comments:

Okay...could this be a dual-edged sword? If, as some say, black voters are moving to Trump in significant numbers, one wonders if this would give them a safe harbor for their vote. Of course, it would not be for Biden, and yet not for Trump. Or would this draw more votes from the unenthusiastic plantation inhabitant? Either way, Republicans have to be a little more stealthy than this.

You simply have to smile. I figure the vast majority of the signatures will be interesting to say the least. Who knew Mickey and Minnie Mouse lived in Wisconsin? Oh, that's right all the cheese logs in the world vacation there. Or the elusive Anita Job? Or G. D. Silli?

If this is factual, it's insanity. bLACKS who may vote for DJT could vote for KW. How does that help Pubbies? Sounds like a Dem plot to weaken Trump with a spoiler.

I'm beginning to think Kanye's controversial support of PDJT was an act from the get-go, to endear him to Trump supporters, who would then consider him as a viable alternative to Trump as soon as he flipped to become an election opponent. Making him serve the role of a third-party vote drainer in the tradition of H. Ross Perot or Ralph Nader. If Wisconsin is as evenly divided between R and D as it seems, Kanye only needs to siphon a few thousand votes away from Trump to tip the state to the Dems.

The NBA’s greatest fear was a player radical enough to go beyond its collectively bargained, wink-wink, nod-nod “protest,” not a player so radical that he would protest the protest in the other direction. But Orlando Magic forward Jonathan Isaac felt so compelled to work his way into the loophole, a Black player doing the unthinkable of sorts, refusing to kneel during Friday’s national anthem and eschewing the Black Lives Matter shirt all the players have been warming up in the re-start at Walt Disney World.

Abuse, trauma and violence have marked the adult life of the 22-year-old Milwaukee woman charged this weekend in her toddler daughter’s shooting death. Prosecutors say Jasmine C. Daniels was “playing around” with her gun last Tuesday when it went off, killing her 2-year-old daughter, Zymeiia Stevens. Seven months prior, according to authorities, she discovered her infant son dead after napping with him on her bed.

Kanye West has dropped his 2020 presidential bid, according to a new report. The 43-year-old rapper's campaign has reportedly been suspended less than two weeks after he shocked the nation with a tweet that confirmed his decision to run for president of the United States in November. According to a new report from Intelligencer, a "get-out-the-vote specialist" named Steve Kramer claims West is already "out" after the Yeezy founder hired both "paid and volunteer" staff to help him secure signatures in Florida and South Carolina to get him on the ballot.

As issues of race, racism and structural inequities dominate the national consciousness, Milwaukee Public Schools board members are laying the groundwork for what they hope will be a new push to address the hyper segregation in southeastern Wisconsin. The board unanimously passed a resolution last week calling on activists, elected officials and others to develop a regional plan to desegregate schools and reduce inequities among schools in the region.

Spoiler alert: 2020 has been rough on the American psyche. Folks in the U.S. are more unhappy today than they've been in nearly 50 years. This bold – yet unsurprising – conclusion comes from the COVID Response Tracking Study, conducted by NORC at the University of Chicago. It finds that just 14% of American adults say they're very happy, down from 31% who said the same in 2018. That year, 23% said they'd often or sometimes felt isolated in recent weeks. Now, 50% say that. The survey, conducted in late May, draws on nearly a half-century of research...

U.S. shale drillers are bringing back shut in production three months after the onset of the current downturn. But steep decline rates will increasingly take hold, dragging down overall U.S. output later this year. With oil prices approaching $40 per barrel, many drillers are covering immediate operational costs. Rystad Energy estimates that “a bit more than 300,000 bpd” of shut in U.S. oil production has come back online. A total of 1.15 million barrels per day (mb/d) was shut in in April and May, and that output will “return swiftly over July and August,” JBC Energy wrote in a note.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo is begging wealthy New Yorkers to return to the city to save it from economic ruin while fighting off calls from other lawmakers to raise their taxes, a move he fears could permanently drive the top 1 percent out of the city. Thousands of New York City residents fled Manhattan and Brooklyn earlier this year when the city was the COVID-19 epicenter of the world. Many flocked to their second homes in the Hamptons or upstate, while others rented or bought new properties, abandoning their expensive city apartments. Now, six months on with no end to the national nightmare in sight, many are laying down permanent roots.

Kneeling for the national anthem at sporting events used to be the occasional episode of player activism protesting the United States as an evil racist empire. Amid the new 21st century woke revolution however, kneeling has become a key signifier for players and teams to declare which side of the culture wars one sits on. It’s those who love America versus those who hate it, the latter of which despises the American flag and all that it represents as a relic of white supremacy that must be condemned.

Michigan governor Gretchen Whitmer, a Democrat, signed an executive directive on Wednesday ordering state employees to undergo “implicit bias training.” Executive directives allow the Michigan governor to establish procedures or basic policy for employees of the state’s executive branch. According to the directive, current state employees will be required to undergo “implicit bias training” by the end of this year, while new employees must complete the training as part of the hiring process. While various bias training initiatives have been implemented by government offices in recent months, some research shows that the impact of these initiatives is negligible. Whitmer’s directive
