Noose hoaxer Bubba Wallace this week was booed as he was introduced at the NASCAR all-star qualifier and cheered after he crashed. The media exploded last month after NASCAR released a statement revealing that a ‘noose’ was reportedly found in top driver Bubba Wallace’s Talladega garage stall. The FBI unleashed 15 agents on the case and ultimately determined that the ‘noose’ was actually a garage door pull rope. It was a garage door pull rope. Fans feel duped after rallying around a crying Bubba Wallace. “Bubba Wallace was also booed when he was introduced, and many cheered when he crashed,” AP reporter Jenna Fryer said. /snip for Tweet/ Bubba

Many drivers have crashed but Bubba is the only one to have lied about his teammates being racists.

Sorry but that behavior only reinforces the low-life image of the NASCAR fans. I understand that crashes are part of the allure of racing but cheering? Really? Would they rather see his lifeless corpse pulled from flaming wreckage. Shameful.

And to the author - it was a noose not a simple 'pull rope'. Go look at the pictures.

@3, I never went to a NASCAR event but I don't see it's fans as low life and racist. If you want to see low life and racist, just go to an NBA game. Have you ever spoken out about that culture?

Seamuseum , Lo rent Nascar ? do you know the all out fun , family and American “can -do “ spirt involved in making , maintaining the cars ? It is an endeavor as exhilarating as a good swift run before the wind .
There is no need to worry about stereotyping those attending . There will always be hate from folks who need to be superior. And fwiw the haters are missing a whole lot . the technology alone is worth admiration . and the skill is extraordinary, why the noose hoax was soo lame cause that driver needed a diversion his skill is inadequate for the race

Bubba tangled with Michael McDowell, it happens at Bristol.
Post-race, Wallace shows his arse... again --
“Just disrespect. When you get hooked the right rear into the wall – I don’t even need to see a replay,” Wallace said to Fox Sports after the race. “People say one of the nicest guys in the garage (McDowell). Can’t wait for the God-fearing text he’s going to send me about preaching and praising respect. What a joke he is.”

I don't think Bubba will get the fan vote,
It's a shame he is in the 43 car. A car that was always out front with a real driver in it.
Petty sure picked a loser to put in his car.

Shame on RP for putting this second rate affirmative action driver in the 43. How much more crap (and cars will he wreck) will he stir up before losing his seat. We went through this with danica, showcasing her lack of skill and fortitude on a weekly basis. At least she could be somewhat pleasant to look at.

Fans have been cheering crashes since I attended the races in the 70s when there were no black drivers. The competition and rivalry is serious and it's part of the race. It may not be in the best of taste but how many people cheer in the NFL when the star runner of the opposing team is taken out? NASCAR fans stand up for three things, the National Anthem, crashes and the appearance of the checkered flag.

It's time to stop calling these events "races". That is clearly a reference to the supremacy of the White race and to the White value of "winning".

#3, if I felt like he was booed merely due to his blackness, I might agree with you. But Bubba, when he had NASCAR eating out of his hand, chose to double-down on national television by keeping the controversy going. He could have just thanked the FBI for doing a good job and making sure he was not in any danger. He enjoyed the attention, as well as getting pushed to the front of the line by his fellow drivers. It was as if he wanted to keep the so-called racist act front and center for as long as possible. For that, he deserves to be booed.

We raced cars - not NASCAR - and the Bubbas are ostracized. I wonder what kind of pressure was put on the NASCAR drivers and crews to turn out for that big show of support photo a while back? The guy’s a nothingburger driver looking for publicity. This isn’t the way you get the kind of publiciity you want in auto racing.

Booed for being a race baiting punk trying to get ahead with racist antics, not by being a better driver on the track. When he fails on the track, they laugh and boo, because he has proven to be such a jerk.

Wallace isn't the first black NASCAR driver, Willie T. Ribbs was first. Unfortunately, Ribbs wasn't actually all that good of a driver, either and while he drove a number of different kinds of racing cars, including being the first black to qualify for Indy, he crashed a lot of cars and finished way down most of the time.
Racing is a real meritocracy, and if you can't win, or can't even run in the top 4 or 5 at least OCCASIONALLY, or qualify in the top 10, or SOMETHING to make your team get a bit of press notice, in a good way, you aren't going to last long. And Ribbs had a bit of Wallace's "mouth problem", too, and that doen't play well with sponsors.
A quiet driver who runs well on the track will be popular. A mouthy trouble maker who blames everyone and everything for his failings will not be popular. Once you have won a SLEW of races, then you can start to develop some "character", perhaps. Obnoxious mediocre drivers impress nobody.

I call BS. Drivers are always cheered after they get out of their cars after a wreck because they aren't injured. The author either doesn't know NASCAR or is fanning flames. Was he booed during intro? Yes. He was cheered as well. Quite a few drivers get the same treatment.

He was booed and it was well deserved. He never saw the so called noose and went along to get $$$.
If you see the “noose” you see that it was a pull. He is disgraceful.

#3 Pretty condescending and snotty. Sounds like you’re repeating something you heard on MSNBC.
It didn’t take Wallace long to wear out his welcome. Of course he will claim that this about racism. And it is. His.

#20 Wendell Scott was the first black driver in th '60s and e on a race in '63.
#3 those "nooses " were seen in every garage in a mini documentary about truck racing in 2017. Bubba has been in NASCAR and racing at Talladega since 2010.
BTW I served aboard USS Talladega APA 208 in '68 learning basic seamanship so don't come to my house or you will see "nooses" (bowline knots) everywhere.

Bubba and Colin, raised in the hood, ate dirt, had no TV or toys, etc......wait, they grew up in a life of , wait for it...white privilege. Now claiming their partial blackness, now that it is convenient. The lid has been removed from their toy bins of excuses. So every time they fail to win, qualify or even achieve, it due to racism don't you know. Systemic racism..whatever that is....nice catchy phrase that is easy to say. Schools, businesses, sports and most anything you can name are in the crosshairs. "I'm a loser. I didn't succeed. I didn't win. I was fired. I didn't get hired." Of course it was due to racism not my abilities or qualifications. The thugs and thugettes will always be with us/ BUT, let's never forget that there are millions of our brothers and sisters who are doing the right things to succeed in life and do succeed. Their voices are drowned out by the losers and media will never highlight their achievements. It goes against the narrative. Bubba and Colin...you were given the opportunity to be worthwhile but chose to go down the road chosen by the thugs and thugettes.

Bubba could have just apologized. Even if he apologized for being mistaken.
Accidents happen, mistakes are made.
A friendly apology and some appreciation toward the fans for their support would have been enough for me.

Thanks, #26, for reminding me about Wendell Scott. I was never a real big NASCAR fan, but lived close to Daytona for about 15 years, so the NASCAR races were always in the local news, and I did hear his name, just forgot it.
Looking at Scott's record, ... he deserves some real credit, starting racing locally in 1953, when the Jim Crow laws were REAL in much of the South, that couldn't have been easy. BUT, he actually had some talent, and he actually won a Grand National race, which is always a big deal. He also made a lot of white friends at the tracks and had a good number of fans.
And Scott was widely respected because he was there to race cars, not make a point about race.

Didn't see it. Just don't care.
I am not boycotting NASCAR, the NFL, or the NBA. "Boycott" implies a temporary change to a habit.
No, once you lose me, you have lost me for life. I have no use for any of them, and never will again. The NFL and NBA are a bunch of racist snowflake crybaby thugs. And when NASCAR banned Confederate flags and kissed Bubba's "I'm a crybaby victim" butt over a garage door pull, I have no use for them ever again either!!!
But good for the NASCAR fans at least. Don't spit in your fan's faces and call them a bunch of racists, and then expect them to love you Bubba!!!! Life doesn't work that way!!!
