Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz has asked President Trump for a federal disaster declaration in his state due to “extensive fire damage” and other destruction in the unrest that followed George Floyd’s death in Minneapolis police custody on Memorial Day.
“We need to come together to ensure Minnesotans who were victims of this destruction have access to critical infrastructure they need so they can go to the grocery store, pick up their medication, and live their lives,” Walz said in a statement Thursday. “Together, we will rebuild.” He also appealed to the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) for financial assistance to help cover the cost of debris removal, emergency measures

This is what a police department is for. Oh, that's right, you defunded them. Oh well, too bad, find the money within your state and next time consider calling law enforcement to break up the riots.

I don't get it. . .how can Waltz allow (encourage?) the destruction to occur, then ask the feds (you and me $$$) to pay for it??? Political posturing to blame Trump should Trump deny the request, although the reason for the request is the direct result of his bad decisions, or lack thereof, of Waltz's abysmal failure to govern, according to Waltz's oath of office? Does Watlz truly care? Is this a contrived situation to entrap President Trump and screw us law abiding, regular folk??? Now pleading compassion and begging monetary relief for those Minnesotans for whom he gave not one rat's behind during the devastation when he did nothing, should the rest of Americans pay for it???
Will Minnesotans wake up and smell the poo that has been left them by their state government and finally get the screaming message?

Since this was not a natural disaster but was caused by the incompetence of the Mayor and Governor, the president should offer Federal assistance on condition that the incompetent officials resign. Then wait for it.

I seriously want to hear what the President has to say about this. I'm not into this togetherness; my state didn't get torn up by looters and rioters; you rebuild what you tore down on your own. The governor and mayor had a chance to stop it but they chose to let it play out as part of an attempt to destroy the President. This was not a natural disaster; it was fomented, created, and allowed to fester like a sore and run by leftists. Leftists like BLM, antifa, the demoncrat party, and Soros need to pay for the damage they've caused. No FEMA, no nothing from the rest of US! What say you, Mr. President?

If President Trump gives him the money, what incentive does any state official have to stop the riots? None - let them burn and loot, then let the American taxpayers pay for the cleanup and replacement of property? No thanks.

No,no, a thousand times no. Not my tax dollars! You let this happen. You did not want any help. This is your problem. You fix it. BLM has lots of money. Make them pay for the destruction you allowed them to cause.

Trump should tell both MN and Seattle NO! They allowed this to happen, they can use their own tax money to clean it up. This might be a lesson to other Blue States that THEY are going to have to deal with the consequences if they allow the BLM crowd to take over their cities and Police stations! No FEDERAL money should help them out!

I tend to agree with most of the respondents here for Trump to tell Walz to 'pound sand'. But if Trump is the 'great negotiator' maybe he should do otherwise and offer aid with strings attached - or better yet - ropes attached.

I call this asking- leverage.
Trump is a negotiator... as a business man, he would need to see what Minnesota was going to do to work on clean up, what measures to prevent the scale of damage again, and what policies led to the mess..
Ownership of situation is on Gov and mayor.. period.
I don’t want a dime of my money bailing out the Antifa and mob riots.

There is a damned if you do and ... don't. Denial of this request punishes the innocent as well as guilty. President Trump is pretty good about twisting these situations where the come out right. Maybe, a loan to the state that requires a budget to be followed - like a construction loan. A loan that releases the funds based on compliance the use of the funds strictly for infrastructure - fail to do so no, more money. To simply say "no" will hurt too many innocent people. We did something like this with an IMF loan to Brazil when it was bankrupt and had elected a socialist Lula - so its not unheard of and it worked. Brazil paid back the loan ... and then went on its merry way to socialism. No help there.

The leftist and liberal Democrat Governors and Mayors allowed all the rioting, burning down, and looting of their mostly inner city low income and minority communities while blaming President Trump, and now are starting to ask that Trump hand them huge amounts of money paid into the Federal Treasury by the taxpayers of all the other States that did not allow such criminal destruction to occur! Give us a break!

All the top officials in the MN govt are Dems. The MN legislator lily-livered Republicans rejoiced and bragged how they had reached a compromise with the Dems which will keep the Dems from initiating mail-in balloting. No sooner had the legislature adjourned, then the Dems went to the courts to push it through...with the total backing of the corrupt MN Secy of State.

This disaster is the cost of putting your heads in the sand Mr. Governor and Mr. Mayor and let the rioters 'blow off a little steam' to get it our of their system'. The wait and see tactic didn't work out so well. Why should President Trump respond with taxpayer money for a state that won't support him in the election while the governor campaigns for Joe Biden.
The answer is not no but Hell NO.

The dems LET the rioters destroy the city and now they want US to pay for it. Sorry, NO! Maybe the good folks of Minnesota should consider a significant change of leadership so this doesn't happen again.
I would love to see Minnesota Republicans come up with a plan to assist real people but give the governor and dems NO control or access to the money. Of course it would never pass Nasty Pelousy's House but it would be instructional to see her vote it down.
