Trump's planned trip to Mount Rushmore
draws fire from Native American activists

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. — President Donald Trump’s plans to kick off Independence Day with a showy display at Mount Rushmore are drawing sharp criticism from Native Americans who view the monument as a desecration of land violently stolen from them and used to pay homage to leaders hostile to native people. Several groups led by Native American activists are planning protests for Trump’s July 3 visit, part of Trump's “comeback” campaign for a nation reeling from sickness, unemployment and, recently, social unrest. The event is slated to include fighter jets thundering over the 79-year-old stone monument in South Dakota's Black Hills

Comments:

According to some activists, “Mount Rushmore is a symbol of white supremacy” and racism is “still alive and well in society today.” Some Native Americans want to see the monument removed and the Black Hills returned to the Lakota.

They fought, they lost. We treat Indians far, far better than most victors treat the losers. Many American Indian tribes would torture prisoners to death or turn them into slaves. Today, they are citizens of the same country as the rest of us, with the exact same opportunities and the same freedoms. Plus, they get the benefits of having sovereign tribal land.

All land within the United States is part of the United States. If the president of the United States wants to visit, that is his perfect right. Separatists can pound sand -- and likely will, because this nationwide insurrection is wearing awfully thin.

These “activists” can kiss my grits. They have their own monument on, yet another, sacred mountain which, after decades, is still not finished because they have refused US government help repeatedly.

A protest that had relevance when Mount Rushmore was sculpted and dedicated. The Lakota already protested and got their competing space for a monument in the Crazy Horse memorial. Too bad its champion died before finishing it, and now the project languishes less than half-complete, as the centerpiece of an utopian vision that collects donations.

Native American activists, bullsh**. And who did these Native Americans take the land from. People forget the Indian wars of years ago. There were many violent war like tribes that killed off other tribes. When they fought a larger foe they lost. End of story. In a way they're lucky. Ifit was anybody else that defeated them they wouldn't be around today to complain about it. They're not activists, they're typical democrats. Got it.

Most Indians, like Blacks, are democrats. They have fallen for the democrat lies and freebies like the blacks. They want their land back, but they will not go back to the woods wearing loin cloths and a bow and arrow. They live much better than their ancestors so they need to quit cry babying. There is not a place on earth that one people did not conquer another for it.

RUSH: Let me wrap up setting the table as it is for President Trump and what all of this means. It means that you have got to maintain your support. Trump’s base must stay devoted, it must stay loyal, it must remain fearless.(Snip)The left has gamed all this out, folks. They know it. If Trump uses force, sends in troops to get back that three- or six-square-block area of Seattle, if he sends in troops, it’s a big risk because the governors and the mayors there do not want that. And what if the military doesn’t respond to his order? Use force?

President Trump announced Friday that he signed an executive order to protect American monuments, memorials and statues and threatened those who try to pull them down with “long prison time.”(Snip)The new order enforces laws prohibiting the desecration of public monuments, the vandalism of government property, and recent acts of violence, withholds federal support tied to public spaces from state and local governments that have failed to protect public monuments, and withdraws federal grants for jurisdictions and law enforcement agencies that fail to stop their desecration. It also provides assistance for protecting the federal statues.

From one perspective, the surreal absurdity of the current protests, vandalism, and riots is not even close to the disruption and mayhem of the political violence in the Sixties and Seventies.(Snip)But what’s going on today is more dangerous, for the ideologies driving the disorder reflect just how successful the leftist “long march through the institutions” has been at corrupting American education and culture over the last half a century. As a result, ideas and behaviors that by consensus were out of bounds then, have now been normalized and abetted by civic leaders and politicians, as well as popular culture, schools, and even sports.
