Four Minnesota officers have been fired following the detainment of a man who died Monday night after being pinned to the ground by an officer who put his knee on the man's neck for about eight minutes. Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey said it was the "right call" to terminate the officers in a tweet announcing the decision Tuesday. The police department said the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension and the FBI would be independently investigating the incident. (snip) "Please, please, please, I can't breathe," the man begs. Comments:

The full video is quite disturbing. Onlookers are urging the cops to check the guy's pulse because he stopped yelling for breath and appeared to be dead. The cops totally ignored the bystanders and warned them not to come near. I generally support the police in most matters, but this is totally inexcusable. Perhaps the liberal mayor can take a break from his mask requirement edicts and his church bullying to look into his police dept.

I'm a big supporter of police officers in general, but a knee on a neck for more than a few seconds seems entirely out of line. Once the suspect is cuffed, that should pretty much be it. But let's see. I'm hoping that there is a lot more to this, and often we find out later that there is. Like the literally morbidly obese black guy dying because he was 'taken down' and was so fat that laying down, he could no longer breathe, like a beached whale, literally. Can't see enough of this guy to judge what the heck else might be going on. Of course, Minny-Apples was the place where the nutcase Muslim officer shot the woman for no reason at all.

even if they are guilty, the Minneapolis Reds will continue to press this.. there will be continual riots in Mayor Jakie's Murderapolis in "support" of this.. just another reason to steer clear of that dump for the foreseeable future..

While this doesn't seem right, I would like to hear the officer's side of the story. How many in LE snap because of years of abuse by criminals? By no means do I agree with what he did, but if the officer was black and the perp white, would this make the news?

I'm betting the officer who took a knee to the victim's neck is headed for nothing less than a negligent homicide conviction, and possibly second degree murder. Seeing the victim's lifeless body flopping onto the gurney, his head drooping with no control, makes compelling evidence for the jury.

This is very troubling and sad to see. The man is already cuffed. What the hell can he do to with so many officers surrounding him. Pleas are by onlookers. None of the other officers intervened. Nothing less than jail time. This is manslaughter. And I hope the family will sue the police and the government big time for such an unnecessary death.

White House National Security Adviser Robert O’Brien on Sunday suggested that the Chinese Community Party would very likely try to steal American developments on a coronavirus vaccine. During an appearance on CBS’s “Face the Nation,” O’Brien predicted that the United States would be the first country to develop a vaccine for the novel coronavirus. But he added that the Chinese government has been working diligently to steal the U.S. government’s coronavirus vaccine research — and he “wouldn’t be surprised” if their espionage efforts succeeded. “I think we’re going to develop a vaccine first,”

A church in Berlin has opened its doors to Muslim worshippers unable to fit into their mosque under new social distancing rules. Germany allowed religious services to resume on 4 May but worshippers must maintain a distance of 1.5m (5ft). As a result the Dar Assalam mosque in the city's Neukölln district could only hold a fraction of its congregation. But the Martha Lutheran church in Kreuzberg offered to help by hosting Friday prayers at the end of Ramadan. (snip) Even the church's pastor took part in the service. "I gave a speech in German," said Monika Matthias.

Minnesotans need accurate data. Data on COVID-19 infections and deaths—and the modeling of that data—is key to decision-making during this public health emergency. If this data is poorly presented, it creates a false narrative about the facts on the ground, contributing to incorrect perceptions of danger, overly burdensome executive orders, and a longer-than-necessary economic shutdown. On April 8, roughly eleven minutes into a video press conference, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz displayed a line graph created by the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH). This graph compared confirmed COVID-19 cases in Minnesota to confirmed cases

Anthony Fauci on Wednesday said there's no evidence that shows the anti-malaria drug hydroxychloroquine is effective at treating COVID-19. "Clearly the scientific data is really quite evident now about the lack of efficacy for it," Fauci, the nation's top infectious disease doctor, said during a CNN interview. Fauci said evidence also shows the likelihood that the drug can cause severe irregular heart rhythms. "There was suspicion of that for a while, but as data comes in, it becomes more clear," Fauci said. The pronouncements mark Fauci's strongest warnings yet against the drug and puts him at odds with President Trump, who has embraced the drug as a "game changer" and a "miracle."

The staggering American death toll from the coronavirus, now approaching 100,000, has touched every part of the country, but the losses have been especially acute along its coasts, in its major cities, across the industrial Midwest, and in New York City. The devastation, in other words, has been disproportionately felt in blue America, which helps explain why people on opposing sides of a partisan divide that has intensified in the past two decades are thinking about the virus differently. It is not just that Democrats and Republicans disagree on how to reopen businesses, schools and the country as a whole. Beyond perception, beyond ideology,
