Chicago saw its deadliest Memorial Day weekend in years, even as people hunker down under Illinois's stay-at-home order to stop the spread of the coronavirus. Police said 10 people were shot and killed in the city, the highest total since 2015. At least 42 others were injured in shootings. NBC's local affiliate has a timeline of this weekend's shootings. Twelve people were shot and killed during Memorial Day weekend five years ago. Street pastor Donovan Price said the shootings are a result of some Chicago residents refusing to adapt to the new social distancing and quarantine guidelines.

Cops receive holiday pay for standing around a park on a nice day, why would they risk their lives in neighborhoods where lead is going to be flying all over the place?
SOME of our first responders are obviously not heroes.

Chicago policing now consists of making sure no one attends church, enjoys the lakefront or protest the lockdown orders. At night it's the "surge", large group of police cars aimlessly driving around neighborhoods with their blue lights flashing.

"Despite stay-at-home order" as if that was going to cause gangbangers a moments hesitation on their way blow each others brains out?
And why don't you kick in a "despite draconian gun laws" for good measure; just like the stay-at-home order they only apply to people who aren't the problem. Golly I think I might be seeing a pattern here.

They were just protesting Trump's use of hydroxychloraquine.
Trump goes out of his way to provoke otherwise-peaceful African-Americans.

Illinois has released 4,000 inmates- some convicted of murder- since March first. Can't imagine that any of them made it over to Chicago.

But the mayor is more concerned with arresting Pastors and their flocks...or getting revenue from the parking tickets of the newly minted no parking zones.

Mayor Lighthead has priorities other that people being gunned down in her city by thugs. Her first priority is to get her hair cut so she can look good for the media when telling the public they face harsh consequences should they fail to obey her social distancing restrictions. Minimizing the shootings and killings must be Chicago's take on "herd immunity"?

Re #1, it has been my experience/knowledge that police officers go where they are assigned… Thus I’d not feel right about that kind of blanket statement...
