NJ — A live video captures Bernardsville Police shutting down a borough business for repeatedly violating Gov. Phil Murphy's executive order for having a non-essential business open during the coronavirus pandemic. Katherine Hermes of Peapack and owner of Country Home Store at 21 Olcott Square can be heard on the video making an emotional plea to the officer. "I am just trying to save my business," Hermes says. "I am widow with three children who need to eat." (See below) Hermes was making a Facebook Live video on Tuesday night to sell some of her products when Officer Tyler Demott came into the store at about 9 p.m.

After hearing this on Rush with Ken Mathews, I had to see this for myself as a past NJ resident near to Bernardsville. Long video but skip to about 1:55 to see the cop at the door with the CLOSED sign showing.
An unidentified complainant caused this to happen. I hope the store owner remembers 'snitches get stitches'. And hopefully worse.

One comment for any officer supporting g this Governor: How does it feel to act like a Jack-booted thug? You have biolatedyour path to uphold the constitution. You are NOT protected by the excuse of, "I was just following orders". Recall the Nuremberg trials? My dad assisted in that. You will be remembered, and not to your advantage.

Every shop that is closed because they are "Non-essential" should hang a portrait of their governor in the window for everyone to see as they walk or drive by.

President Trump needs to regain the initiative, these blue-state governors are going to keep the economy locked down until November. He should tell AG Barr to appoint a DOJ team to investigate and prosecute violations of constitutional rights. He should announce that a federal tribunal will be named to hear these cases (a la Nuremberg) and that "following orders" will not be a defense. And make it easy to report cases like this that need to be investigated. I don't know the legalities of all this, I understand federalism and states' rights, but the federal government can enforce the protection of constitutional rights. If police realize they will be held personally and criminally accountable for their actions, they would not be so quick to shut down an honest citizen trying to earn a living.

They aren't just saying certain businesses are non-essential. They are saying the people that work there are non-essential. Don't the police have more important things to do? Guess its easier to go after a business owner than a drug pusher. Seriously, who are these people protecting?

I would encourage concerned citizens to call the Bernardsville Chief of Police Kevin J. Valentine, to render your opinion regarding the enforcement action taken against Katherine Hermes by Officer Tyler Demott. The chief can be contacted at either (908) 766-0037 or at The chief needs to be reminded that there is the "letter of the law" and the "spirit of the law". Also, ask the chief if he is still collecting his pay check! Chief Valentine gets a zero on the hero scale.

President admitted that during a press conference in April that “two very smart people” came into his office and urged him to lock down the economy or 2.2 million Americans would die from the China virus. There is an urgent-care doctor in Bakersfield, California, by the name of Dan Erickson, and he and his business partner Artin Massahi posted a video on YouTube a few days ago making the case for herd immunity and an end to the economic shutdowns. The video was widely shared across the internet, but only for a short time. Why? Because YouTube took the video down after it had racked up five million views. Erickson and Massahi received a lot of pushback from their conclusions. Essentially, they extrapolated data they’d collected from running their area’s only walk-in COVID-19 testing site to project that some five million

We all know the old saying that tough times bring out both the best in people and the worst in people. And right now, the coronavirus pandemic has brought tough times to literally billions of us all around the world. Throughout the state’s history (save the last 20 years or so), Californians have been adventurous, individualistic, and bristle at the thought of being told what to do or at being expected to conform with rules set by “the man.” Starting with the Gold Rush, people who didn’t fit in in their hometowns went west to find fortune, fame, wide open spaces, or to be able to invent their own identity. That California spirit has produced the entertainment industry, Silicon Valley, Walt Disney, and much more, and has also led people in other states to jokingly label the state as “the land of fruits and nuts.”

Our leadership class responded to the outbreak of the coronavirus by shutting down the economy on a nationwide scale. While this will mitigate the loss of life the virus might otherwise have caused, it’s clear we’re also confronting a challenge no medical innovation can cure. We face an unprecedented situation — not a global pandemic, we’ve seen those before, but a modern capitalist economy that turned itself off for potentially more than 60 days, on purpose. Uncertainty crushes hope. So the question on the minds of our leaders should be: how do we give citizens more confidence that we can, and will, turn the economy back on?

WBOC reports that Carney’s original order, released Sunday, had gun stores listed as “non-essential,” and therefore under instruction to remain closed until May 15. Some gun stores throughout the state defied Carney, remaining open Monday thru Thursday of this week. As a result, three gun stores in New Castle alone had been served with “cease and desist letters and closed down.” Delaware State Sportsmen’s Association’s Jeff Hague reacted to the determination of gun store owners, saying, “If people believe that you have the right to keep and bear arms,

Stay-home orders that extend too long could cause the U.S. “irreparable damage,” Dr. Anthony Fauci warned Friday. Strict crackdowns on large gatherings and other orders, such as for home quarantines, were needed when the coronavirus first hit the nation, but those rules can now begin to be lifted in many parts of the country, Fauci said during an interview on CNBC. “I don’t want people to think that any of us feel that staying locked down for a prolonged period of time is the way to go,” the member of the White House coronavirus task force said.
