Donald Trump demanded Sunday morning that former President Barack Obama and former Vice President Joe Biden face jail time for involvement in the Michael Flynn case. 'It was the greatest political crime in the history of our country,' Trump said of his predecessor and Biden, the presumed Democratic nominee. 'If I were a Democrat instead of a Republican, I think everybody would have been in jail a long time ago, and I'm talking with 50 year sentences,' the president continued in an interview with Fox Business' Maria Bartiromo that aired Sunday.

I can name a dozen people right off the top of my head that should go to prison for what they did to Flynn an another dozen that should go to jail for Russiagate, and that doesn't include selling Uranium to Russia or sending Billions to Tran, and having a traitor violating the Logan act with the Viet Cong and Iran.

When House Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced the $3 trillion coronavirus spending bill she and her allies had written--a bill passed by House Democrats Friday night with only a single Republican vote in support--my first reaction was that it would be dead on arrival in the Senate and that the move made no sense.(Snip)Pelosi is a survivor. She is tough. She is hardworking, and she has been through a lot of campaigns--and seen and executed a lot of maneuvers. Therefore, you must assume there is a sound strategic reason for Pelosi to bring forward a bill that is this radical, expensive, and controversial.

The opening credits of the Perry Mason television drama featured a statue of justice as a blindfolded woman raising aloft a pair of scales. This common visual metaphor captures the two critical dimensions of justice: balancing the punishment with the crime, and the equality of all under the law. Four years ago the Obama administration and rogue partisans in the FBI and DOJ abused their powers in order to keep Donald Trump from being elected, and then to hamstring and sabotage his administration.(Snip)But if the verification of these crimes is not followed by indictments and the malefactors put on trial, our political system will be seriously damaged

"This will be one of the first opportunities for Dr. Fauci to tell the American people the unvarnished truth without the president lurking over his shoulder,” Sen. Charles Schumer said Monday. So the New York Democrat had high expectations for Fauci’s testimony to the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions on Tuesday. “If some areas--cities states or what have you--jump over those barriers, checkpoints and prematurely open up without having the capability of being able to respond effectively and efficiently,” Fauci testified. “My concern is that we will start to see little spikes that might turn into outbreaks.” But the news wasn’t all bad.

Former U.S. Attorney Brett Tolman thought he had "seen everything" over the course of his career until a federal judge opened the door Tuesday for legal experts and other outside parties to oppose the Justice Department’s motion to drop the case against former national security adviser Michael Flynn. Appearing on "Fox & Friends," Tolman said he believed Judge Emmet Sullivan's decision was "outrageous" and that the Washington D.C. judge had turned himself into an "activist," willing to set aside rules, ethics, and precedent in favor of partisanship.

The Department of Justice, after concluding that the prosecution of Michael Flynn was the product of misconduct by FBI and DOJ officials, moved to drop the case against Flynn.(Snip)A judge has discretion whether to allow a case to be dropped, but normally if the prosecution doesn’t want to prosecute, a judge will not force a prosecution. But where a guilty plea has been entered and accepted by the court, and a motion to withdraw the plea rejected by the court, the court has a lot more power because the prosecution, in a sense, is over already. An article in Nowhere Magazine several years ago explored the ways ancient cultures dispatched the elderly, a practice known as senicide. Author Justin Nobel recounted several gruesome rites that made the Inuit habit of putting Granny on an Arctic ice floe seem humane. At one point, Nobel mentioned that his own grandparents had moved “to a fancy nursing home in the suburbs of New York City.” That made me shudder. If they are honest, historians judging the American experience during the coronavirus pandemic will excoriate our barbaric failure to protect the elderly.
