The Multi-Talented Ms. Abrams

Most politicians in the running to join a presidential ticket as the VP candidate are inclined to stay silent, change the subject, or simply express their humility at the thought of being considered. Stacey Abrams isn't most politicians. "I would be an excellent running mate," Abrams said in a recent interview with Elle magazine, citing her "strong history of executive and management experience," as well as her "25 years in independent study of foreign policy." As soon as it became clear that former vice president Joe Biden would be the Democratic Party's nominee for president, Abrams embarked on a media tour to make the case for why Stacey Abrams,

Abrams is a high-profile specimen of what many smaller metro areas have long experienced. As sensible persons flee the central city the only ones left are the ignorant. Ergo, the mayors are ignorant. Because they have access to power they are flattered when they are told they are not ignorant and start to believe it. Because they're ignorant. Abrams is also a high-profile specimen of someone with no talents whatsoever. She can't speak. She has nothing interesting to say. She certainly has no ideas. She seems to believe that she's refined the role of professional victim into professional POTENTIAL victim and that this is somehow desirable politically.

Abrams expressed "concern" about the possibility that Biden would not make the "smart choice" by picking an accomplished woman of color such as Stacey Abrams. I think Joe already said his first and smartest choice of a woman of color for running mate would be Carol Channing. Sorry Stacey. What? Too soon?

FTA: “...I and my publisher were concerned that people would not want to buy a [romance] book written by, well, not Neil deGrasse Tyson, but basically by Stephen Hawking.” She’s comparing herself to Stephen Hawking. Prof. Hawking was director of research at the Centre for Theoretical Cosmology at the University of Cambridge, and Lucasian Professor of Mathematics at the University of Cambridge between 1979 and 2009. Just to be clear Ms Abrams is saying she’s smarter than Neil deGrasse Tyson, and that her intellect is comparable to that of Prof. Hawking‘s, and as such the magnitude of her reputation as a public intellectual might actually be a disincentive to buy a romance novel she wrote. She said because she’s as smart as Stephen Hawking her books— like, “Reckless,” “Never Tell,” and “Deception,” might not sell as well— if she wasn’t as smart as she is. The publisher’s summary for, “Never Tell,” reads, “... One thing is certain: Erin's boxy suits and sensible shoes hide a delicate beauty waiting to emerge...and Gabriel is just the man to reveal the woman inside. “As they join forces to find the killer, Gabriel slowly seduces Erin with his soft kisses. But Erin knows their love can never be.” Somehow I think Prof. Hawking’s potential as a writer of romance novels— even posthumously— is safe. https://thefederalist.com/2018/11/02/5-excerpts-from-stacey-abramss-hilarious-romance-novels/ I mean, seriously? 8, you'd love the bit radio host Dave Glover (St Louis) did when Hawking was reported to have weird sexual deviances. In the bit, Hawking would say things to his sex partner in his computer generated voice, "It puts the lotion on the skin." Hilarious.

OK, so she earned BA, MS, and PhD degrees in Interdisciplinary Studies, Public Policy (government), Law, and passed the bar exam to work as a tax attorney. Not bad credentials. Thus, she's book smart and maybe deserved her positions. Unfortunately, because of affirmative action programs/hiring, we'll never know for sure if she was the best candidate or if she was given her various jobs to increase that institution's diversity quota. That's ALWAYS the rub when it comes to minorities in positions of high pay jobs/political power. But the key statement I read is how she credits her "25 years in independent study of foreign policy" as a credential and experience to qualify her to be the VP pick. My goodness, may I count all my "independent study" in a plethora of subjects over the years as qualifications for employment in each and every one of those areas? Would you believe me just based on my word that I was an expert in any of those areas? Or, do I have to have the shield of being a Black, feminist, leftist, lesbian, overweight, government careerist not to have my qualifications (or motives) questioned? BTW, she owed $54,000 in back taxes that she was paying off in increments to the IRS, and held $174,000 in credit card and student loan debt. Somehow though, she donated $50,000 to her own GA gubernatorial campaign and in 2019 she completed payment of her back taxes to the IRS in addition to other outstanding credit card and student loan debt. Humm...... Sorry for the long post.

NYC to save money: Stop recycling

Posted by Pluperfect 5/18/2020 5:06:51 AM Post Reply
The financial pressure of the coronavirus pandemic has led Mayor de Blasio to do what he’s never done before: propose reductions in New York City’s sprawling $93 billion budget. A good place to start would be the city’s recycling collection program. That may seem like eco-sacrilege but in extraordinary times nothing should be sacrosanct. For recycling, the numbers don’t add up. By sending recyclables to safe landfills — and avoiding the cost of separate collection — the city could save nearly $200 million. At a time when COVID-19 puts frontline workers, including the city’s 7,000 uniformed Sanitation workers (New York’s fabled “Strongest”),

Deborah Birx, the physician advising the White House’s coronavirus task force, gave voice to a real concern earlier this month. She told officials from the Centers for Disease Control that some of its numbers on mortality and case count could be inflated by up to 25 percent. “There is nothing from the CDC that I can trust,” the Washington Post reported Birx saying. We now know more about what she was talking about, since Colorado has become the first state to publish two different numbers. One number is derived using a definition mandated by the CDC, which issued guidelines on March 24 specifying that “COVID-19

Public health professionals are focused on expanding coronavirus infection testing nationwide. “Testing is outbreak control 101, because what testing lets you do is figure out who’s infected and who’s not, and that lets you separate out the infected people from the noninfected people and bring the disease under control,” Harvard professor Ashish Jha says. As Tom Frieden, a former director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, told The Washington Post, “Our ability to get to the new normal depends to a great extent on our ability to test, isolate, contact trace and quarantine.” Public health leaders are essentially unanimous:

I've been writing about "Obama the bad guy" for many years. I was the first to name former President Barack Obama the head of the Obama crime family. I coined the phrase "Obamagate" to describe his reign of crimes against candidate and then President Donald J. Trump. Obama's public persona was always a scam. I knew the real Obama -- way before anyone else caught on. Take the Slate magazine column published days ago by a liberal hack and Obama apologist. He sounded the usual liberal talking points: There is no Obamagate. There is no scandal. It's a conservative conspiracy.

The daily news about the novel coronavirus is bad. Every day, we are told that the pandemic is out of control and that there is no end in sight. We read that the number of new cases is rising, deaths are climbing, and the United States has by far the most deaths of any country in the world. The economy is collapsing, unemployment is spiking, and a depression is coming. But experts warn us that reopening the economy will just mean more suffering and death. It is true that the pandemic's toll on our health and economic well-being has been devastating.

Let’s talk about John Brennan a bit. You remember John Brennan. He was Barack Obama’s director of the CIA. Once upon a time, he was an enthusiast for Gus Hall, the Communist candidate for president, for whom he voted in 1976. I can’t think of any better background for the head of the country’s premier intelligence service under Obama. In 2014, having put childish things behind him as St. Paul advised, Brennan spied on the Senate Intelligence Committee. He denied it indignantly. “Nothing could be further from the truth. We wouldn’t do that. That’s just beyond the scope of reason in terms of what we’d do.” But that was before

By March 14, London Breed, the mayor of San Francisco, had seen enough. For weeks, she and her health officials had looked at data showing the evolving threat of COVID-19. In response, she’d issued a series of orders limiting the size of public gatherings, each one feeling more arbitrary than the last. She’d been persuaded that her city’s considerable and highly regarded health care system might be insufficient for the looming onslaught of infection and death. “We need to shut this s*** down,” Breed remembered thinking. Three days later in New York, Mayor Bill de Blasio was thinking much the same thing. He’d been publicly savaged

Democrats and their puppets in the media — once fierce critics of US law enforcement and spying agencies — have suddenly become their biggest champions, at least when the issue is these agencies’ targeting of Team Trump. Newly released documents in the case of former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn add to mounting evidence of what seem like serious, politically motivated abuses by the FBI and Justice Department. And liberals are cheering the abuse. Even columnists at the once anti-cop, anti-FBI New York Times are now solemnly lauding the bureau as “the nation’s premier law enforcement agency.”

In light of Judge Sullivan’s bizarre orders in the Flynn prosecution, there is talk about the possibility of filing a petition with the court of appeals seeking to have it pull the plug on the Flynn proceedings. However, I don’t think the D.C. Circuit would grant such a petition, and I question whether, at this stage, it should. The problem is that Sullivan hasn’t ruled one way or the other on the government’s motion to dismiss the case against Gen. Flynn. Technically, all he has done is ask for briefing from outside parties on the question of whether he should grant the motion. Sullivan shouldn’t have asked for outside help.
