On Easter, a nation clings to hope

Original Article

After a 40-day period dedicated to fasting, self-denial, and prayer, Christians begin a new phase in their calendar: a 50-day celebration of Christ’s resurrection, which ends on Pentecost Sunday. It is deliberate that the celebration of Easter lasts longer than that of Lent. And now, at a time of suffering in which hope is more difficult than usual to maintain, it is a good moment to keep that lesson in mind. For all the pain and loss that the world’s peoples are enduring, a brighter future awaits.

Hope in many things, it would seem. I contacted a close friend, a shooting buddy who I have had dinner with every Friday since about 1982 to see how he was doing since we had to stop our Friday night dinners a few weeks ago. He told me that he had an MRI, found a 'mass' on his pancreas and a biopsy was sent off to test to see what kind of chemo that they will use. It is inoperable. This is a very sad day for me, even with the renewal of Easter. And I have said the first of what will be many prayers for his recovery.

For those who join "Christ's Team" we know that shedding this body will be a great event in our lives, for we too will be given an everlasting body that will give us the ability to travel by thought to wherever we must be, and that no matter where we are, that Jesus, our Savior, will be there with us. It is with great sadness that anyone alive today does not heed the call that Jesus made upon an unbelieving world. Jesus is recorded as saying, in John 3:16-18; “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life. For God did not send the Son into the world to judge the world, but that the world might be saved through Him. He who believes in Him is not judged; he who does not believe has been judged already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God." There is none other, no other "way," but through Him. And Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me. John 14:6 Join Christ's Team today, by simply believing in Him for your eternal salvation. He paid the sin price for all, and extends it to each of us for free. We did nothing to earn the generational condemnation of Adam, and we can do nothing to earn our freedom from the penalty of death. It was all accomplished by Jesus Christ hanging on that Roman cross when he said, "Tetelestai" (It is finished).

Governors should focus on tackling coronavirus rather than shift blame 15 replies

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo called on the federal government to take control of the medical supply market. Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker demanded that President Trump take charge and said “precious months” were wasted waiting for federal action. Some critics are even more direct in demanding a federal takeover, including a national quarantine. It is the legal version of panic shopping. Many seem to long for federal takeovers, if not martial law. Yet like all panic shopping, they are buying into far more than they need while not doing as much as they could with what they have.

A densely populated neighbor of China, Vietnam has a weak health care system and a low budget for combating the coronavirus. So how has it managed to keep its COVID-19 infection rate so low? As the coronavirus pandemic rages in wealthy European countries, more than 10,000 kilometers (6,000 miles) from China where the outbreak began, Vietnam has widely been spared. In Germany alone, the latest numbers from the World Health Organization (WHO) show more than 30,000 people have been infected with COVID-19, resulting in 149 fatalities.

The Trump administration unsealed sweeping indictments against Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and members of his inner circle on narco-terrorism charges on Thursday, a move that dramatically escalates the U.S. bid to force the authoritarian socialist from power. The indictment, which officials said was a decade in the making, comes as supporters of the U.S.-backed Venezuelan opposition movement to oust Maduro is fading, particularly as the outbreak of the coronavirus has effectively halted calls for citizens to turnout in the streets.

Congress must censure Democratic Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer for threatening two Supreme Court justices outside the U.S. Supreme Court on Wednesday. This should be wholly bipartisan and utterly uncontroversial. No American, no less a high-ranking member of Congress like Schumer, should be permitted to threaten government officials or judges. This type of thuggish behavior displayed by the senior U.S. senator has no place in a civilized society and must be condemned by all.

As the House and Senate continue their struggle over the coming Senate impeachment trial of President Trump, a federal judge in Washington issued an opinion that was largely lost in the crush of New Year’s stories. The opinion could loom large in the trial, however, and one line in particular may be repeated like a mantra by the Trump defense team: “The House clearly has no intention of pursuing” the witness.

One word keeps recurring in online discussions of Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s latest orders to fight the state’s raging COVID-19 outbreak: “Insanity.” Last week, the first-term Democrat issued an order extending the state’s stay-at-home policy, which had been set to expire April 15, until May 1. Michigan has the third-highest number of coronavirus cases of any state in America, and certainly strong measures are required to get the pandemic under control. But the devil is in the details, and Whitmer’s new order instantly provoked a firestorm of outrage. Among the complaints was that Whitmer had prohibited sale of seeds and other garden supplies,

Other committees are doing like analyses.” He continued, “It is very important, I think, in reviewing the intelligence component to this to realize the intelligence piece is just one piece of the warnings coming to the administration.

America’s infectious disease expert, Dr. Anthony Fauci, appeared on CNN and told Jake Tapper that “obviously” fewer people would have coronavirus if we had shut down the country earlier. He punctuated it by saying there was “push back” to the idea.
A full listen to his answers show Dr. Fauci wasn’t aggressively laying blame anywhere, and he repeatedly warned against second guessing. He stated clearly, for example, that comparisons to South Korea were illogical. He admitted that he looks at things from a, “pure health standpoint,” meaning that he doesn’t concern himself with your job or your neighbor’s small business.
